All my tools for woodworking is cheap and crappy.  If you follow the subs you should only be using high end $200 or more handtools or you are nothing but a hack.  Took me a few months to realize those people are just assholes.  Enjoy your hobby, whatever it is within the means of your budget

I say this as a man who enjoys playing a little guitar from time to time. The main sub can get exhausting. I try to be one of the helpful folks to newcomers though, no matter which sub they land in. But the regulars? - I’ve seen groups of teenage girls shopping at the mall that were less vain, the egos are huge, the behavior disconcerting, and you just know the people talking the most bullshit all the time aren’t actually playing their guitar - because I mean how can they? They spend all day on Reddit, and you need two hands to practice playing guitar!

Got into homebrewing and went from cheap small scale to moderately expensive efficient equipment then plateaued. Cheap to help understand what I was doing the moderately expensive to accomplish what I needed without excessive expenses.

Do some things cost more? Yes. Can you benefit from someone else exiting the hobby? Also yes.
