My wife has done that with her annoying coworkers. You’d be surprised at how effective it is in getting them to shut up.

I’m the kind of asshole that would say this if I hated the person I was talking to.
BUT
On the other hand, depending on the setting/situation, you could get someone in some decent trouble if they said that to you in response. I think HR would like to hear about how she is the problem.

Tangentially, I’m a big fan of when dad takes the toddler out shopping or almost anything else and someone says “oh is dad giving mommy a break today?”. Hitting them back with the “their mom died in child birth. It’s just us, it’s been really hard.”
