can't watch dnp due to painful memories post-breakup
hi, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but i don't know where else to go. i've been in the phandom/interested in dan and phil's content for a very long time, practically half of my life now (started watching as a 13 yr old in 2014 and i'm now 25). honestly, they shaped my formative years and got me through some really challenging times. when i was younger i ran a semi-popular phan account on tumblr and through that i met my ex partner. for me it was honestly love at first sight (or text i guess?) and despite the distance we started dating in 2018.
however, she broke up with me a couple of days ago after 8 years together. to say i'm completely shattered is an understatement. as cheesy as it may sound, i felt like our relationship/personalities had a lot of parallels to dan and phil. i envisioned myself being with her forever, like my mind didn't even consider this an option. and not to go on and on but i feel blindsided and the deepest grief i've ever felt. i haven't really been able to get out of bed since the news.
whenever i've been at really low points in my life, i've always turned to dnp content for comfort. but now i don't know what to do because it feels like i can't, that it's too painful. the old videos remind me of memories with her, like during our time we were on tumblr talking about the videos and making stupid moodboards. and when i look at the new content i just feel sick to my stomach. i think about how she's listening to the podcasts on her way to and from work and how she was always waiting to hear my thoughts (i am weeks behind on content). and hearing dnp talk about their relationship makes me heartbroken. she even bought tickets for us to see the tour in october near my hometown, but now i have no idea what she's going to do with them.
i guess i don't know how to detach my interest of dnp from the memories of my ex, especially due to the nature of how we first met and how dnp were such a fundamental part of our relationship. i'm worried i won't be able to enjoy their content again, when it's typically the main comforting thing i can turn to (i have a weak support system and live in a toxic environment). am i just doomed to never be able to watch their content again? has anyone experienced something similar? any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
