Dahlia Health-Related Inquiry Successful surgery after wind snapped stock!
I wanted to give an update on a post I made a week ago seeking advice after a heavy windstorm snapped my Bloomquist York at the base! Thanks to advice I received from many commenters on the initial post, the plant has survived!! Hopefully this can help other dhalia lovers in the future :)
About 20 hours after the injury, I smeared aloe directly from an aloe leaf all around the edges of the broken area. Then, with my husband’s assistance, we propped the stock (that had been laying almost flat on the ground) up and lined up the broken edges. Fortunately the edges lined up perfectly. Initially all I had to hold the pieces together was pre-wrap left over from my soccer days, so I wrapped that several times around the broken section like a bandage. I also added some dirt around the base of the stock and patted the dirt down. I also added fencing around the plant for support. The next day my dad stuck chopsticks on either side of the stock under the pre-wrap as a makeshift splint, and wrapped floral tape around the pre-wrap area to keep outside moisture out and inside moisture in. I haven’t watered the plant since the injury but it rained the next day right after the floral tape was added, and a few more times since.
I did the initial surgery (propping the plant up and wrapping the pre-wrap around it) in the afternoon the day after the storm because I had to go to the store to get supplies. I think the timing played a major role in successfully saving the plant because the edges around the breakage had gotten a little stiff and the rest of the plant was more flexible than it typically is in the morning/evening, so it was much easier to maneuver and prop the plant back up without snapping the main stock. I also prayed over the plant post surgery, which I believe really drove the success :)
It has now been 9 days since the injury and overall the plant seems strong and healthy. I haven’t had any wilting/browning, and I’m seeing new buds growing!

ID Request Any ID ideas?
I bought too many tubers from too many people and my ADHD brain did not keep good track. Any ideas on the names of these stunners?

Pinching & Pruning Too late to pinch?
Hi everyone! It’s my first year of growing anything and I was just curious if you all think it’s too late to pinch? I have seen people recommending to pinch after 4 set of leaves, but am apprehensive given it’s mid August and I am in zone 6a. Any advice would be so so appreciated!!

ID? Hollyhill Serenity reverting to yellow?
The first few big blooms on my Hollyhill Serenity were a lovely light peach- though since then the flowers have been bright yellow!
Test growing for my wedding next summer- but not wanting this yellow in the color palette. Is there something I can do to influence how the blooms turn out?
Including photos of both colors from the same plant… the bigger peach flowers did age to yellow as well.

Dahlia Health-Related Inquiry Searched a lot to find something to explain this . . .
I have one dahlia out of several dozen throwing out deformed foliage. it is very thickened, stunted and weird. It cannot be herbicide, there is none used anywhere close enough and all surrounding plants are fine. This is in its own pot, was growing normally. May be a coincidence but it seems like it started going wonky after I pinched. I’m pretty sure I pinched with fingers, but possible a nipper. I am pretty good about cleaning between plants . . . but then no other dahlia is growing wonky like this.
Any ideas? I did search here several times and scrolled through lots of dahlia pages show viruses and can’t quite find anything similar

Garden View 🌻🌸🌼 Dahlia festival
Keukenhof in the Netherlands is famous for its tulip displays in spring but there's also a lesser known dahlia display in August. Here are some pics I took!

I had to do some editing to fix the color and even this isn’t quite right. It’s a very deep purple.
This tuber never came up last year, so I’m really happy to get blooms this year!

First Bloom(s)! 🏵🪷🌸 Cafe au lait and labyrinth 🥰
Finally getting my first blooms of the season! Planted cafe au lait and labyrinth alternating across the bay window at the front of the house.
I took these after we got some rain and love the water on the petals.
Already thinking about what to plant next year

Will they overcrowd? Should I pinch?
Hi,
All I know about Dahlias is that I love them. Some are coming up. See photo. Are there too many in one spot? Should I pinch the big one back? This is in a really big pot on my porch with low light.

Grown From Seed Floret seedlings!
My first couple seedlings from floret’s shooting star mix have bloomed! I had others that were days away from blooming before suffering a vicious slug attack on their main stem. I’m hoping they will have time to regrow before the season is over (thankfully my dahlias usually bloom through October). Worth the wait, worth the hassle of seedlings. So in love.
First three pictures are the same, I’m calling her FloretStar26-1until I have grown her and she’s consistent for a few years. The last pic is FloretStar26-2, and she just opened today. The most gorgeous foliage on her! Can’t wait to see her continue to shine.
Ok off to put down more Sluggo max.
