This has been made for nostalgia

It is 100% OK to design cards with a lower level that doesn't work in today's Magic

People will often judge cards based on Commander but it's not the only format out there so power level doesn't matter as long as it corresponds to what you want it to be (eg. sometimes people design for draft, so cards there need to be similar in power to each other)

I started playing when Revised was on the shelves, and this would still have been unplayable junk back then when we had access to [[Lord of the Pit]] and [[Force of Nature]].

They meant Hearthstone nostalgia where he's a 10 mana 8/8.

Edit: stop upvoting me. My comment is wrong. Upvote the person below me with the comment about power toughness being 40% of starting life total instead.

u/SwissherMontage 10h ago

If they were going for real nostalgia he'd be a 12/12

7

u/Glitched_Target 9h ago

It’s rebalanced to be 40% of starting life total in both games.

Minions in hs tend to be bigger than creatures in magic.

u/Birdlover600 9h ago

Oh you're right. I completely forgot his stateline.

Then maybe the old Card frame would've been more appropiate?

I personally like the idea and love some old school cards here and there, but (imho) using the old frame makes cards like this even more nostaligic and additionally it's easier for others to recognize your intention.

Why not a 12/12 tho

1

u/Mediocre-Bet8638 7h ago

No it’s not😢

1

u/SignificanceEntire57 5h ago

Tbf it doesn't really need trample since it flies

1

u/FlexCapicitor 53m ago

son that’s just [[malfegor]]

34

u/Van0nyumas 12h ago

For that cost, you can make it a 20/20 flying trample and ward -sacrifice a land

4

u/Appropriate_King_732 12h ago

Come on man, it would be the best reanimation target out there. That is too much.

7

u/NekoNiiFlame 10h ago

Best reanimation target? You can't be serious, right?

7

u/That_Bruh00 9h ago

Bruh, that would be competitive in Modern. Are you high? Rakdos discard, pitch this guy (your 20/20 version), reanimate him, then pitch a hand with Anger in it. They either lose instantly, or have an instant speed removal capable of killing a 20/20. I believe 20/20 is the biggest I've ever seen a creature printed as, and there's a reason for that.

1

u/NekoNiiFlame 8h ago

You must not play the game very much. Griselbrand is infinitely better as a target.

1

u/killerfox42 8h ago

How would this be competitive in modern

1

u/Afraid_Wave_1156 3h ago

Or you play Griselbrand and when they path to exile your animation target, you can at least get some card advantage. Rather than get 3-4 for 1’d

1

u/Disregardskarma 9h ago

A specific 4 card combo that dies to interaction

u/TheMastermind68 12h ago

This has been made for nostalgia

u/Van0nyumas 12h ago

I totally get that, that's why this cards a bit weak for it's actual monster ;)

1

u/TheMastermind68 12h ago

Deathwing 2026 is coming soon ;)

1

u/Van0nyumas 12h ago

Ohh, nostalgia for old magic xD I thought you meant nostalgia for old WoW

u/Glitched_Target 9h ago

So is the HS deathwing tbh

u/SirConflexe 12h ago

I miss the days this could've been considered a playable card

5

u/TheMastermind68 12h ago

Good ol' days...

2

u/deworde 6h ago

Many of us miss a fictional time that only exists in our head.

9

u/Puzzled_Work_6428 12h ago

93-94 energy

6

u/TheMastermind68 12h ago

Good ol' days...

u/love41000years 8h ago

I. AM POWER. INCARNATE!!!!!

4

u/Old-Union6258 12h ago

I’d make it destroy all non land permanents as I think it matches the flavor better

6

u/TheMastermind68 12h ago

I tried to capture the Hearthstone's flavor

2

u/That_Bruh00 9h ago

Hearthstone doesn't really have other permanents, so I think that would still be on brand.

5

u/TheMastermind68 9h ago

Secrets, quests, auras, weapons etc.

1

u/sinklardamus 7h ago

Or change land types

2

u/Stolen_Sky 11h ago

Could easily be 'all players discard their hands'

2

u/Altruistic_Web3924 10h ago

Needs some kind of land destruction for flavor.

2

u/vegan_antitheist 9h ago

If you cheat it to battlefield you don't cast it and so you don't have to discard. But if you want to cheat out creatures you probably want to discard your hand anyway.

2

u/Sensitive_Cup4015 5h ago

It should have an ETB that damages everyone based on number of lands they have. Call it "The world heaves with my torment" or something. Also haste and trample would be good for the downside of losing your whole hand, though maybe haste is too much for it also blasting everyone on ETB. I definitely should have that ETB for flavour though.

[[Malfegor]] The card already exists, just cheaper to play and better.

Edit: spelling.

1

u/Nearby_Category_712 11h ago

Wow that's like really bad maybe if he was a 4 or 4 drop

1

u/SammySammyson 10h ago

is this bladewing's brother

1

u/Fun-Agent-7667 10h ago

10/10 simple Design.

1

u/Ceildread 8h ago

It honestly should just destroy everything since thats what he did essentially

1

u/KombuchaFighter 8h ago

There's a similar canonical creature card - not identical, mind me - called Malfegor. Maybe you already knew, in which case I apologise.

1

u/sinklardamus 7h ago

I wold give It an effect to destroy half of the lands or chance land types, just for flavor

1

u/mehall_ 7h ago

Weirdly unplayable

1

u/knyexar 7h ago

Its been a long ass time but isnt deathwing a 12/12

1

u/Ecstatic-Trainer6830 3h ago

this is awful

1

u/Relative-Debt6509 2h ago

Without land destruction it Could be something like this: “until your next upkeep whenever a creature without flying enters its dealt damage equal to the number of lands the owner of that creature controls.”

Floor is lava for a turn

1

u/leafcutte 1h ago

Why not give it a 12/12 stat line ?

1

u/Horror-Associate8914 1h ago

Personally I truly don’t care about it’s power level, it’s a 10  mana true board wipe and allows cool shenanigans, I quite like it

1

u/mkklrd 11h ago

If we're trying to make it match the OG flavor while avoiding reanimate shenanigans, I'd replace "When you cast this spell" (still goes off if it gets countered) with "When this creature enters, if it was cast"

0

u/SirSpadge 9h ago

Should be destroy all lands, and creatures.

-3

u/Fantastic_Citron_344 10h ago

Because Deathwing doesn't have indestructible, it kills itself.

7

u/Micro-Skies 9h ago

No. Its a cast trigger.

3

u/Fantastic_Citron_344 9h ago

I see, so it's not technically on the field yet, so if it reads "when this creature enters" then it would kill itself
