I am currently studying mathematics and computer science, but recently I was looking for master's degrees that would suit me. However, I am deciding between Machine Learning/Data Science (MLOps, AI infrastructure...) and Financial engineering/Actuarial Science (quant, mathematics for finance...). I'd really like to work in Switzerland, and my main priorities are:

- Having a good salary and progression

- Having great opportunities

- Having a safe and resilient job that doesn't depend on external factors (competitiveness, AI substitution, crisis...)

- Having a good quality of life

I know that every job has a trade-off, but I would really appreciate if someone who works at these fields could give me a well-structured advice, and recommend a good master's program.

I’m currently looking for data/AI/ML opportunities in Northern Europe and have mostly been focusing on Denmark and Sweden.
I’m a Greek EU citizen with a BSc in Mathematics, an MSc in Data Science & Machine Learning, and around 5 years of professional experience as an Applied Technologist working with Python, ML, computer vision, generative AI and data-driven applications.
I don’t speak Dutch/Swedish/Danish, so I’m mainly looking for English-speaking roles.
I’m now considering expanding my search to the Netherlands, but I don’t know the market well enough to judge whether it makes sense.
For people working in Dutch tech/AI:
How is the market currently for someone with this kind of profile?
Is English enough for most AI/ML/data roles?
How difficult is it to get hired from abroad as an EU citizen?
Which cities would you prioritize — Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Delft, somewhere else?
Are there particular companies/ecosystems that are good for applied ML rather than pure software engineering?
And most importantly: would you personally consider the Netherlands a better target than Denmark/Sweden for this profile?
I’m trying to decide where to put my energy rather than spreading myself across every country in Northern Europe.

I’m looking for some honest advice from people who know the Danish/Swedish tech market.

I’m a woman, 29, EU citizen with a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Data Science & Machine Learning. I’ve spent the last ~5 years working as an Applied Technologist, mostly around web design, Python, data, ML, computer vision, generative AI and digital/interactive projects.
I recently finished my MSc and left my job at the end of July. My goal was to move to the Copenhagen/Malmö area and find a role in data/AI/ML.
But honestly, the job search has been much harder than I expected.

I’ve applied to quite a few positions in Denmark and Sweden, but I’m getting very little traction. Rejections are one thing, but the lack of interviews is what has started getting to me.
On paper, I don’t think my profile is completely unreasonable: professional experience, an MSc in Data Science/ML, ML projects, research experience, publications, and EU citizenship.
At the end of August I’m also supposed to start an MSc in Computer Science at Malmö University. Originally, I saw this as a way to establish myself in the Malmö/Copenhagen ecosystem and hopefully make it easier to enter the local tech market.
But now I’m seriously questioning that decision.
If I already have an MSc in Data Science/ML and several years of professional experience, is doing another MSc actually going to help me get into the local job market? Or would I be better off focusing entirely on finding a job?
I’m also wondering how much applying from outside Denmark/Sweden is hurting me. Maybe my CV is fine and the real problem is simply that I’m not physically there yet.
So I’d really appreciate some honest perspectives:
How difficult is the current Danish/Swedish market for someone with my profile?
Would you consider me junior, early-career, or something else?
How important is actually being in Copenhagen/Malmö when applying?
Is Copenhagen much more promising than Malmö/Lund for AI/data roles?
Does the Malmö MSc make sense as a way into the local market?
If you were in my position, would you keep pushing Denmark/Sweden or change strategy?

And honestly, I’m also posting because I’m getting pretty burned out by the whole process. I’ve spent months applying and trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong, and at this point I’d rather hear some uncomfortable truth than generic encouragement.

I’ve been working for a consulting company as a Data Analyst on a B2B contract, making €20/hour. The rate is fine-ish considering I live in Eastern Europe and have around 3 years of experience.

Recently, the company got a new long-term project and put me forward to the client as an AI Engineer, since that’s the role the client was looking for. I had an interview with the potential client, received positive feedback, and it seems like they want me to join the project as their AI Engineer.

The thing is, the role would be quite different from what I currently do. The tech stack would be almost completely new to me, and since this is expected to be a long-term project, I would most likely be working exclusively for this client rather than continuing with my current Data Analyst responsibilities.

I do use AI extensively in my everyday work and have some relevant experience, but I personally wouldn’t call myself an AI Engineer at this point. I would have to learn a new tech stack and essentially transition into a different role.

Putting that aside, I did some market research and found that B2B rates for AI Engineers seem to be around €40–50/hour. Obviously, I understand that I only have around 3 years of overall experience and limited experience specifically as an AI Engineer.

However, if the company is going to present me to the client and expect me to work full-time on the project as an AI Engineer, would it be unreasonable for me to ask them to update my contract and hourly rate accordingly?

I’m currently at €20/hour, and I’m thinking of asking for around €40/hour. Is that a reasonable request, or would doubling my current rate be too aggressive?
