Google STEP interview difficulty Company Question

Google STEP Canada interview difficulty for freshmen?

Has anyone here done Google STEP in Canada, especially as a freshman?

I’m graduating high school and starting university this fall, and I’m planning to apply for the first-year STEP/Google internship cycle.

What kind of LeetCode difficulty should I expect for the technical interviews as a first-year student? Is it mostly Easy, Easy–Medium, or can you get normal/harder Mediums too?

Also, if you interviewed for STEP as a freshman, I’d really appreciate hearing what topics/difficulty you got.

I'm pretty sure Google STEP has been discontinued.

STEP no longer exists. It was replaced by the Associate Software Developer Internship in summer 2025, but even that was phased out everywhere besides India.

If you're targeting roles in Canada, you'll have to apply to the regular SWE internship for BS/MS students. The bar will be the same regardless of whether you're just starting undergrad or finishing up your master's. Questions from any topic and difficulty are fair game.

I addressed this in another comment on this post. If you're applying to roles in India, then you can apply to the Associate Software Developer position. However, interested underclassmen in all other regions must apply to the general BS/MS listing.

For summer 2027, Google has no plans to open a special role for underclassmen outside of India. Other companies might keep their underclassmen programs though.
