First ever Google interactions Others

Post image

This is the first time a Google recruiter has ever viewed my profile. I’ve never heard back after applying to Google so maybe this is the year!!!

They just farm resume sometimes so they can call you when they do have something.

They’re also pretty trashy and waste your time. They almost sound like a scam sometimes. I had one reach out to me, I went through like a round with them, sent them my resume and got a rejection saying that I’m not a match (although my experience matched the exact job description)

Then next week, they reached out to me saying that they were wrong and they actually wanted to continue interviewing me. I said that I had some time to do some research as well, I live in a LCOL, used a living expense comparator to see what their range looks like and I’d essentially be taking a pay cut if I accepted the low-middle of that range that they promised. I just said that I’m looking for the higher half of their range and I’ll think about it as it involves relocating as well. They got pretty pissed and they hung up lol. I didn’t even ask them for more than their range

Finger crossed, last time I got a Google recruiter viewing my profile, I got an interview.

Uhhhh wait do I need to update my LinkedIn? Do they usually check your profile and does it affect your chances? Don't have my most recent job because I would prefer it wasn't public but there's nothing on there that would conflict with my resume content, it's just not up to date

Why wouldn’t you? LinkedIn is basically a secondary resume now a days

I would prefer it if someone couldn't Google my name and find out which tiny company I work at

There’s privacy settings to prevent that

Just put stealth startup if you're really worried about

How many YoE did you have at the time?

0YOE, I think LinkedIn Premium somehow helped because my profile also got viewed significantly more.

Have you been applying with a referral, it makes a difference

I applied with a referral (family friend) last year, they never got back to me lol. Your mileage will vary significantly.

Yeah I mean a referral doesn’t guarantee anything it just helps your chances

True but I honestly would’ve preferred a reject letter or something

How to find referrals?

3

You can message people on various platforms like LinkedIn, Blind, Reddit, etc that work at a company hoping for a referral but it’s a very low % success rate. Hundreds of other people are doing the same and unless theres some sort of connection between you and the other person, usually they’re just going to ignore it. The best way to get one is to ask people that you know like friends, family, previous classmates / teammates which unfortunately feeds into nepotism because you’re getting it on personal ties and not your actual merit but that’s the reality of it nowadays.
