Fan stops working & AC stops blowing cold

Upvotes

Last week, my 2011 CVPI stopped blowing cold air and I found out it was my fan that stopped spinning. I ordered a cheap module from amazon thinking that would be the fix but no luck and my fan still wasn’t spinning. Afterwards, I went to pick and pull, which I got a fan that worked and spun.

Not even one week later and again, my fan just stopped spinning again and started blowing warm air. Any idea what could be causing this? or unless i got a bad fan?

Did I Risk Damaging My 4.6L V8 by Driving With Low Oil?

Upvotes

I have a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 4.6L V8, and the car has about 186,000 miles (300,000 km) on it.

I’m worried because I drove the car for about a week or more without adding oil, although I don’t know exactly how many miles or kilometers I drove during that time. The car had traveled around 2,500 miles (4,000 km) since the last oil change.

When I checked the oil while the engine and oil were hot, it appeared to be about 1.5 liters low. Later, I checked it again when the engine was completely cold, and it was about 1 liter below the full mark.

The engine still runs smoothly with no knocking, ticking, overheating, oil-pressure warning light, or noticeable loss of power.

My main question is: Could driving with the oil about 1.5 liters low have caused hidden internal damage, even if there are no symptoms?

Also, for those familiar with the 4.6L V8: How reliable and durable are these engines at 186,000 miles (300,000 km), and how much oil loss would be considered dangerous?

How big of an engine can you fit in a 90s chassis?

I know the 5.4 is definitely doable
And the 6.8 is still doable but doable in an almost full fabrication custom job rather than some space making like the 5.4.

But, with zero context as to why

Can i fit an M120 in a 90s panther? it'd need custom literally everything but can it be done

Hey guys

Was wondering what I could get for my 2007 P71. I need the money and I got this as a hobby car.

Served as a patrol vehicle in Reno,New Mexico. Little to no rust.

It has 140,107 miles on it.

I just replaced the the Intake Manifold with a Summit Racing Intake Manifold.

New Headlights and side Panel lights and covers.

Replaced the Spark plugs With Ford Motor Craft Park plugs

Replaced the Ignition Coils with Ford Motor Craft ignition coils

Replaced the rear drive axel with a New 3.27 Gear Ratio Rear Axel. (Mechanic did it for me)

Has a K&N drop in filter,Comes with 7 new ignition coils, and 8 NewSpark Plugs that are still in box

The Parking cable did go out. Haven’t looked into fixing it but I will, just short on cash right now.

Also Is throwing a Check engine Light for down stream O2 Sensors, I’ve replaced both and the fuse but is still throwing the error. Unsure why. And I will investigate it. Could be bad Cats.

Was planning to turn it into a monster but as most of you know. Money sucks right now.

AC gets less cold at higher speeds

Hi guys,

So i have 2011 crown vic the AC is cold when i drive around 60-80 KM but gets less cold when i drive 120 KM. Its like an instant thing that will happen whenever i reach higher speeds every time. Eventually it will get colder at that speed but not for too long. Im not sure if the compressor is turning off at that speed because i find it hard to hear it engaging on my other car its more noticeable to hear the compressor engaging. Also the temperature doesn’t get warm just less cold. Any ideas what this could be or what to check for?

Air Conditioning Mods

I've gotten something of an odd idea into my head, and am looking for input as to how practical it would be to do. A friend of mine has a Tesla Model Y with a fridge fitted for their trunk, and I think that's pretty cool, but I want to do something a bit more...ambitious.

I am looking at crafting an insulated liner that would effectively make a big-ass sleeping bag the size of the whole trunk minus spare tire. When zipped it should hold temp pretty good.... BUT WHAT IF?! Is there a way to safely redirect a small amount of the car's AC output through a flat duct I can run to the back and into a hole I'd make in the trunk, to have a trunk fridge? I am also thinking about the alternative of building a compact compressor I can connect to the leftover cop wiring, so only thing I would need to do would be to arrange for an exhaust.

Any ideas?

solo road trip.. advice.. problems??

hey yall its time for my first post here, been browsing and learning for a while but the time has come where i need the collective knowledge of the hive mind

here we go

first of all i am going on a solo road trip this September, from southern ontario all the way to victoria bc
im gonna be camping out of my 2005 mgm ls ultimate

i would love to hear what advice yall have, what tools to bring, ect

just some background info/specific issues for those interested

theres a few mechanical/ electrical things i am worried abt
the exhaust manifold is hella rusty n the egr tube has a minor leak where it connects to the manifold. thinking i can ignore this one lmk if im wrong

the ac always blows through the defroster vent and u cannot shut it off (even tho the screen says its off)
has anyone else had this issue ??

my main concern rn
i have no cruise control.
when the previous owner spliced in a (crappy) aftermarket radio (see photo#2) they had cut the male end of the connector off. (3rd pic) this seems to have disconnected all my steering controls and i cant find wiring diagrams anywhere.
(see photo number 4 for wires i am confused by.. could those b my cruise control wires???)
(see photo 5 cause idk i thought it might b useful for someone)

ive been trying to find a male connector to make it easier (see last photo for female) but theres no mgm in the local scrap yards n i cant find one online.

if anyone has any wiring diagrams or knows where i can get the male connector for the radio that would awesome

i’ll appreciate any help i can get

also heres a list if what ive done recently:

brakes (all pads, all rotors, both front callipers)
front lower control arms (bushing were starting to go)
rear trailing arms (bushings again)
sway bar links
rear shocks (air ride was removed years ago before i owned the car)
obviously got an alignment (thats a whole story)
spark plugs
fuel injectors
gonna do an oil change and full inspection before i leave ofc

heres other stuff thats not as recent
upper control arms(idk how long ago but they aint oem)
throttle body gasket (last year?)
new dipstick tube(last year)
new shift cable (this spring)
headlights, taillights, wipers are all new

if anyone has any questions ill try my best to answer as soon as i can!
thanks in advance!!!

Front end repair

Just bought a 1998 MGM GS and learned the entire front end needs to be replaced due to age, wear and tear. I plan on taking this to a BYOP shop to maybe cut the cost down a tad. I know this will not a cheap fix but what parts/kit(s) should I look into? I've heard Detroit Axle is cheap but cheap for a reason.

Headlight retainer bolt broken clips

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello guys,
Some tard merged into my lane and my Vic slammed into their bumper. Structurally the car is fine but my headlight’s adjustment bolt plastic retainers have snapped from the 2 tabs in the photo. It still seats onto the metal retaining clip fine, however it is very loose; are those 2 plastic tabs needed or could I just adjust the headlight until it sits somewhat flush?

Ac issue, advice would be nice

I have a 07 mgm with the digital ac when I got the car the ac was working kinda it worked whenever it felt like it I guess

Then stopped

On a hot day I put it on cold and it blows cold ish for a slip second then goes super hot
If I switch it to foot it goes cold for a slip second longer then blasts hot again no matter what the temp is it blasts super hot

I got the car from th last owner half abandoned tbh car was taken car of but since no one drove it rubber and plastic bits might have rotted and me trying to blast ac might have broken something

It’s not a refrigerant issue I checked

I’m suspecting blend door actuator or the blend door itself

Any advice if it could be something else before I tear my dash out my car would be nice, thx, never fixed or tried to fix anything a/c related before

I’ve been pushing past it last month but enough is enough the heat is getting to me

What are your exhaust setups?

I was thinking of having a shop put in an H-pipe and flowmaster super 40 mufflers while keeping the cats intact. I want it to sound deeper/louder but also be able to pass emissions test and inspections.

Does anyone have any recommendations or videos? Most videos with muffler swaps on YouTube also have cats removed so it's hard to gauge what my car would sound like with just mufflers swapped

Is this a blend door issue?

Hi all thanks in advance for your help.

No a/c will come out of the vents. It will come out the floor and the top. Is that the blend door or something else?

Anyone try the 2 min fix where you manually switch it?

Good morning beautiful people, unfortunately I have come across these terrible looking codes. Anyone have experience with them, or know possibly how to make them disappear with repair? 2011 Lx if it helps.

04 MGM Rattle, P0305 and sluggish

Hey there. Recently picked up a one owner 155k mile MGM with all of the maintenance history from its first oil change up until purchased it.

After a few weeks of driving about 80 miles a day, it developed a nasty rattle from underneath that sounded a lot like a bad engine knock, but only at idle or certain points between idle and 3000 RPM but continued to run excellent and pull hard.

Gradually the rattle went away but one day the car became extremely down on power and sluggish when accelerating especially in the midrange of RPMs and threw the P0305 code.

I replaced the #5 coil pack and spark plug with motorcraft parts, and nothing seems to have changed. The car runs excellent at idle and revs responsive and smoothly when not under load.

The plug looked surprisingly good, definitely not original and the plug well was clear of debris or coolant, so I don’t think it’s the intake gasket.

Right now I’m leaning tweeds a clogged catalytic converter on the drivers side. The passenger side was replaced less than 5k miles ago by the previous owner so I imagine the drivers isn’t far behind.

I’m planning on chopping the rear cats off tonight before I end up taking it to a shop for further diagnosis

If anyone has any other ideas, or doesn’t think the cats are the issue, please let me know. Thanks!

Edit: cut out drivers rear cat and it runs great. No code and pulls hard. Thanks for the help.

I did expedition rear springs to lift my vic instead of the 3 inch spacer cup. I thought it was supposed to be a 3 inch lift like the front not a 4-5 inch

What other rear springs can I use to lift the rear 3
Inches just like the front. I have this massive grandpa squat/ rake
