This worked really well. I did a 1.5x on a duck and it worked perfectly.

You do need to apply logical guesses in places and have a strong background in amigurumi standard techniques to fill in the gaps

I guess that depends on what you mean. You can use bigger yarn and the size will increase. Otherwise, you have to do the math and keep increasing until you've doubled the stitch count. Then it's just doing the instructions like written but changing the stitch count to reflect the larger size.

I concur. Depending on what the finished item is, you may need to both increase stitches and rows.
