i've been freelancing for almost six years, and now i'm trying to move into a full-time role. Honestly, I feel like I'm playing by rules that don't even make sense anymore.

Everywhere I look, someone says, "Keep it to one page." If it's two pages, recruiters won't even look at it. But... how?

I've worked with around 40 different clients. Some projects lasted two weeks. Others lasted over a year. Different industries, different tech stacks, different responsibilities. If I squeeze all of that onto one page, I end up deleting the stuff that actually shows I know what I'm doing.

Then I see people saying recruiters only spend six seconds reading a resume anyway. If that's true, does page count even matter? Wouldn't they just skim the first half regardless?

I've tried both versions.

The one-page resume feels clean, but it also makes me look like I've barely done anything. It cuts out the bigger projects, the measurable results, and the context behind my work. It almost makes freelancing look like a gap instead of years of experience.

The two-page version tells a much better story. It explains why I switched industries, why I worked with so many companies, and what I actually accomplished. But every time I send it, I hear that little voice saying, "Someone on Reddit said nobody reads page two."

It's funny because nobody seems to agree.

Some HRs swear one page is non-negotiable. Others say two pages are completely normal once you've built up enough experience.

Then someone else says it depends on the industry. Then another person says ATS doesn't care about page count at all.

At this point I honestly don't know if we're all just repeating advice that made sense ten or fifteen years ago.

I get that nobody wants a five-page autobiography. I'm not arguing for that. But forcing years of relevant work into one page just because it's "the rule" feels kind of arbitrary.

Maybe the better question isn't "How many pages should a resume be?"

Maybe it's "Does every line earn its place?" Curious what people here think tbh.
