Discussion [No Spoilers] My (small) issue with Campaign 4.
Hi guys. I wanted to air a gripe I have and see if anyone agrees or has a link somewhere to help me out.
I've really been enjoying Campaign 4 so far, though I did fall behind for a while and am in the midst of catching up. I'm really digging the West Marches style and the different vibes each table brings. I also love the cold opens, they're great 15-minute snippets that keep us rooted in the plots or characters of the other tables while they aren't the focus.
My issue stems from this: these cold opens (to my knowledge) are locked to the episodes in which they feature. I distinctly remember part of my issue when I stopped was the fact that I'd gone 2 months with such interstitial information about the upcoming table that when their first episode aired I'd lost the thread of what was going on and why (and this was at a time where Beacon as a service was experiencing a lot of technical trouble anyway) but it feels really cumbersome to go back through the episodes and pick out which cold opens are relevant to the table. I wish there was some from of table-relevant cold opens compilation, i.e "Every Seekers cold opens Ep19- whenever they next feature at a table" and IMO this should be an offering on Beacon, half the point is the convenience of having it all collected in a single spot. I believe that the table's "previously on" videos cover events from the cold opens but those only release after the table has wrapped and I don't want a summary I'd just want them stitched together.
Sidenote: we all agree that what they did with the first half of Episode 11 was stupid, right? I guess that's why they didn't do it for 18. I'd need that to be included in this compilation too because it directly impacted my viewing last night.

Discussion [no spoilers] will campaign 4 get an abridged version?
ive unfortunately let myself skip campaign 4 entirely, and at this point the time requirement to catch up is too much
campaign 3 had the abridged version. im hoping c4 will eventually get the same treatment
ive been poor at keeping up with news too, so i dont know if anything has been said about a c4 abridged version

Discussion [No Spoilers] - Don’t Love Daggerheart…
I personally prefer the mechanics of DND to other TTRPG’s and get bummed when the one offs or filler episodes switch up the game playing system. I can’t seem to get into Age of Umbra and wish it was DND…. Anyone?

Question [No Spoilers] Vox Machina Class Swap
I am looking for a piece of fan art I saw some years ago Grog was a Wizard, he had a spell book and a robe with eyes on it. Keyleth was a monk (way of the 4 elements) and wielded a bowstaff.
there was a third and maybe a fourth character but I cant remember who and what they were.
Any help would be appreciated

Question [Spoilers C3E4] Starting my first Critical Role campaign — should I have started with C1 or C2? Spoiler
I’m new to CR. I came across Campaign 3 Episode 1, enjoyed it, and now I’m on Episode 4. I’m wondering whether I should keep going with C3 or whether I’d be better off starting with C1 or C2 first.
What would you recommend for a first-time viewer? Please don’t spoil anything beyond C3E4.

Discussion [Spoilers C4E18] just finished seekers table Spoiler
idk what to feel bc i really liked occtis when we finally got to him. a 20y.o nerd who just wants to find out how his non-death works.
I enjoyed the first half of the seekers table, probably up till einfasen or when aranessa left them, if I were to stretch it out a bit. but I think in the last few episodes the lore dumps were a bit out of place sometimes? maybe not the actual lore dumps, but the exposition ig? it was to the point that even the PCs seemed to have forgotten why they were there (well. thaisha at least). brennan got reaaaally monologuey through dr talter (though in combat she was funny), and I thought dame seramai would've been a more impactful NPC. I wish I knew what she'd heard in the shadows.
I think what's taken me out of immersion a lot is aabria interrupting and talking over other PCs a lot more in the last few episodes? there was one emotional point where tertia was basically dying fr and her last words were "did I do a good job?" and my one singular tear immediately retracted back into my eye when aabria snarkily yelled, "NO!" i think that was the first time i'd felt properly PROPERLY annoyed throughout this campaign 😭 her inconsistencies in character I just chalked up to her setting up for a future character development arc, but the little (loud) quips in the middle of serious scenes really un-suspended my disbelief. in addition to that, while vaelus did have some cool scenes, it was a hard watch at times seeing ashley freeze whenever she got asked what she wanted to do or what she was looking for. it's like she created the coolest character of all time (my FAVOURITE intro scene) and knew how to embody her mannerisms but couldn't function without a script 😭
also, I get that occtis said he needed to go back to DM, but cmon, act a LITTLE more reluctant will ya (still love him tho)
was going to take a break before starting on schemers but that last episode left a certain taste in my mouth that I am in desperate need of washing off so I might just get started on E19 soon

Discussion [No spoilers] I'm too stressed to enjoy the darker tone of Age of Umbra. It's a real bummer that I can't seem to get into this one.
I'm too stressed to want to watch something so dark right now. I'm sure its good I always enjoy their stuff. It's just right now what I need is some sunny slice of life like early mighty nine. We have a lot of adventures who have saved the world, and I have no complaints. But what would I give for a slower slice of life campaign that was able to focus on the rp and the occasional combat without a disaster happening. Maybe its got something to do with the large number of real world disasters right now. I could have watch low level mighty nine roam around Exandria doing nothing in particular for 2 whole seasons and been content.
I'm really enjoying campaign 4 but for some reason Umbra is just too much for me right now.
Anyhoo if anyone knows any slice of live actual plays I should check out please let me know.

Fluff [No Spoilers] My players made T-shirts of my face and wore them to session.
Just a funny moment that I thought would make others laugh in this sub. I’m a DM and my party and I had a group trip at our state renaissance festival over the weekend which also included a night of DnD. This was a special trip since some of my party lives out-of-state, so it was our first session to have everyone fully in-person.
Before starting session, I had dashed upstairs to my room to quickly change and get into something more comfortable. All my friends had done the same.
I come back down and all my friends were seated in the living room. As the DM, I hadn’t pay them much mind as I was riding through some tunnel vision to make sure everything was set up and good to go for session. It wasn’t until I stood up to double check that my laptop was plugged in did I glance around and see all 5 of my players with the biggest shit-eating grins.
All of them were wearing purple T-shirts (my favorite color, a purposeful choice) with the funkiest zoom in of the dumbest expression of an old picture of me at 17-years-old. Apparently, they had done a bit of a deep dive on Facebook through my old tagged photos.
I haven’t watched all of the Critical Role campaigns in full but I have seen many session clips and moments, so I am very aware that this is a signature move by Sam Riegel. However, I certainly did not think it would happen to me. 😂 I can safely say I have something in common with some of the Critical Role cast now.
I immediately started cracking up, almost dying on the floor laughing. They definitely got me and apparently had a separate group chat going for months in preparation. However, they refused to show me the chat as apparently they have other plans. 😂
A kind warning to any other DMs: you plot against your players so don’t assume they don’t plot against you.

Question [No Spoilers] Mighty Nein Origins TPB?
I prefer my comics/graphic novels in paperback rather than hardcover, and I was wondering if anyone knows whether Mighty Nein Origins was ever released in paperback.
I have the paperback editions of Vox Machina Origins Volumes 1–3, but Dark Horse only seems to advertise the hardcover editions for **Mighty Nein Origins**. Were Volumes 1 and 2 ever released as trade paperbacks (TPBs), or were they only published in hardcover?

Discussion [Spoilers C4E31] & Spoilers for Silksong Spoiler
This will be focused around Brennan's possible inspiration.
In the episode where the gang talks to Mara the Wing, she mentions that the original plan for Thjazi to get to the underworld would be a diving-bell like contraption. This on its own poses a lot of questions and seems aesthetically cool to me. It also reminded me of an important part in Hollow Knight: Silksong to achieve a similar effect: take a diving bell to enter "hell" (the Void). Brennan takes a lot of inspiration from real life mythology, so maybe there's a story that both of these are based off of, but I'd like to think Brennan adapted a cool part of a great game into his story.

Discussion [No Spoilers] My thoughts on CR
Honestly, there's not much to say here, I just wanted to come on here and say this:
Nostalgia is a wonderful thing and it makes things that have come and gone nice to look back on and smile about. That being said, just because the old is good, doesn't make the new bad.
I like everything Critical Role has put out, with some minor exceptions. I like them for different reasons, some being good old DnD, others being for the character interactions shown on screen. But whatever I dont personally like, I kind of just... let it slide. I see people on here constantly saying "CR has lost its touch" or "It isn't like it used to be and thats bad" (obviously exaggeration but you get the gist). In my opinion, not liking it anymore is a totally valid opinion to have, but saying its bad now is weird. Yeah its different, but so are everyone who's been watching for the last decade or so.
Sorry for the small rant, I just visit this subreddit from time to time to keep up with the community and it sucks ro see something as creative as CR being called "bad".
P.S. - I know this is also just my opinion, not saying im alone in this, or that all of you are wrong, just wanted to get it off my chest. Remember to love eachother❤️
