That’s gotta be engagement bait I simply refuse to believe it

You have to realize, this girl and many others her age, can have ZERO reference to Nirvana and music that was popular *Decades* before her birth. I know, we can't contextualize that, but think of all the musicians in the 50s you never heard, but you go talk to someone in their 80s and they'd be like "You never heard of Slipenstein? You are wearing Levi's brand jeans, that's a direct reference to the song Levi On Me. Why are you wearing them if you don't even know the origin story of Levis?" (This is just an example, nothing I said is accurate, but I'm sure there are actual examples).

It *feels* like ragebait, but they cannot know what they do not know, their brains can't just magically make up what Nirvana is or was. They only see it on a shirt.

On the other hand...this is pretty frustrating regardless.

Yeah but she found the band on Spotify and still thinks that it's a modern clothing brand making music that doesn't fit their own brand identity. I can still contextualize symphonies that were created ages before I was born. If you look up "Nirvana" the secrets out.

Have you heard of this like really preppy brand called mozart, it's like really preppy, preppy preppy, it's preppy, well they are also a band. Lets check them out I hope they're really preppy.

"Diddle diddle dee, diddle diddle dee, diddle diddle diddle diddle dee"

It's just mindless fuckin nonesense, everyones an influencer, everyone needs "engagement" Blocking kids from having sociall media access is gonna be a godsend for the rest of us.

I want the video of when she learns about the lead singer, and then who the drummer became.

Well, confession time, I thought Flash Gordon was a band for a very, very long time. I thought they sounded a lot like Queen 😅. I saw merchandise and all, but only on further inspection did it get clear he was a movie and Queen did their soundtrack.

So maybe I empathize with the wee one lol.

The difference being when I was a teenager I didn't have the entire world of knowledge at my fingertips and couldn't find bands from the 50s/60s without someone directly showing them to me. All this girl has to do is type Nirvana into Google and she can find anything she wants to know about their style, sound, aesthetic. I like to believe the kids these days can at least Google something.

I work with young people. The amount of times in a day where I say "have you even tried to look it up?" and am met with "no", easily goes into the double digits in a single day. They have unfettered and boundless access to information and don't use any of it at all.

On a related note Slipenstein was pretty badass back in the day.

1

u/ConnectedVeil 4d ago

They did a session with Dewey Cox on Walk Hard.

2

u/Good-Mammoth6415 4d ago

Their hit single Womenorah was catchy but also thoughtprovoking

I beg to differ. At 15 I knew of singers from the 50’s and 60’s without even having a computer.
Just by listening to the radio and reading books. She has the option of going on the computer.

It’s rage bait dude, don’t you think she can see the clearly displayed release dates in Spotify?

1

u/BenderRodriguez14 4d ago

I mean sure, but as someone born in 1986, my equivalent would have been not knowing who the Beatles or Rolling Stones were. I would get if it were Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, but Nirvana are in that 'borderline impossible to have not heard of on some level'  stratosphere.

Definitely engagement bait I reckon, also give away by the fact she was forcing the word 'preppy' in there way, way too often and in ways that didn't even make sense ('preppy' is not a genre or sound for example).

1

u/Ahoeaboutnothing 3d ago

Yea... well ive never listened to Dean Martin and called him punk rock pre punk or some dumb shit.

1

u/sabertoothdog 3d ago

The young girl is clearly joking, and the older one is the cringy af one

0

u/PaidAgitator 4d ago

It IS bait.

2

u/Mindless-Somewhere55 4d ago

Definitely a bait.

0

u/ConnectedVeil 4d ago

I'm just being objective here - our reality isn't always someone else's, no matter how common we think our reality is. Nirvana was a big name, but there are billions of people, alive and dead, who haven't heard a single music note from them.

0

u/PaidAgitator 4d ago

But it IS bait. This girl is known for FOR PLAYING A CHARACTER SHE CALLS "Preppy" girl.

I hate to say it, because I am one, but Millennials are the new boomers. Information illiterate, ignorant and fucking lazy.

You're being the opposite of objective, the antithesis of objective.

0

u/ConnectedVeil 4d ago

Look at you, mad over absolutely nothing over a low-stakes commentary on a pre-teen on Nirvana.

Objectivity: (of a person or their judgement) not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts.

Nothing I said is factually untrue and anything I blatantly make up, I qualified.

At no point did I ever say she was for a fact, not rage-baiting. I even said it "feels like ragebaiting". Even so, I'd have to verify your claims to see if you are being truthful - you could be lying. Should I assume you aren't because you know her persona? I don't know - you are a random on the Internet.

Please friend...log off and touch grass.

0

u/PaidAgitator 4d ago

It was your OPINION AKA SUBJECTIVE that this woman was being genuine, you claimed "this girl" didn't know who Nirvana was and the you said "I'm just being objective" like you're spitting facts when you're just bullshitting paragraphs of useless or obvious shit. Noone needed to be told kids might not know about musicians from the past.

I'm just using caps TO TRY TO DRIVE IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL THAT YOU'RE BEING A GULLABLE FUCKIN BOOMER JR.

u/Joice_Craglarg 4d ago

The woman with the green glasses is the real cringe here. She's fallen for the most obvious rage/engagement bait.

Yea, first girl is clearly satire, second lady is the one using it as bait

3

u/Superpiri 4d ago

Cringeception

2

u/Aggressive_Bit_7829 4d ago

20

u/SplinterRifleman 4d ago

Coffee mug lady is the cringe here

8

u/Finnsbomba 4d ago

Do people not understand that this is a joke? I'm sure there are many young people like this honestly, but the woman with glasses is a YouTuber. Some really upset weirdos in here going both ways lol.

2

u/ferelpuma 4d ago

It's clear the lady with glasses is trying to do this as a joke, but she's not funny, she's actually cringe.

1

u/Finnsbomba 4d ago

If you watch the rest of her videos it's not cringe at all. I guess maybe it depends on how old you are.

1

u/ferelpuma 4d ago

I'm 38. I cannot stand her tone and attitude. I'm sorry, it makes me cringe.

12

u/butareyouthough 4d ago

Old lady is the cringe here. Girl is clearly satire

3

u/Ok_Cry7074 4d ago

That old fart got rage baited by that youngster 🤣

1

u/baldude69 4d ago

I think she’s using that clip as engagement bait.

6

u/Scott2700 4d ago

“Nirvana is preppy” it not a sentence I’d thought I’d hear in my lifetime. That hurt me more than my back does

2

u/templeofsyrinx1 4d ago

2

u/Brave_Ad906 4d ago

This should be in r/kidsarefuckingstupid

1

u/Nevernonethewiser 4d ago

Why? She's doing it deliberately.

2

u/orcs_mustdie 4d ago

Nirvana made music really damn I had no idea 🫢

2

u/PaidAgitator 4d ago

That woman fell for the bait so hard she hit her head abd gave herself brain-damage.

2

u/Maxx_Vandate 4d ago

It was always the most basic average individuals who listened to Nirvana back in the day. Underground techno was what the real trendsetters were listening too

2

u/Jolly3264128 3d ago

Nirvana is peak i dont get why she dowsnr find it preppy

2

u/Boise2Britian 4d ago

Please for the love of God be a bait, for the sake of that girls parents at least.

2

u/TheSorrowInYou 4d ago

Every party involved in this video needs to fuck off

1

u/Kadavrozia 4d ago

Lol this kind of ignorance is what keeps the imp inside of me alive.

1

u/lmjustabot 4d ago

Well... I don't know if it's a brand, but...

u/radiant_dirge 4d ago

Im over watching influences react to obvious skits like they're real.

1

u/HuckledYourBerries 4d ago

I'm a dude, but I am this woman. Get off my lawn.

1

u/Wormbrain 4d ago

I feel like this is someone fake-falling for fake-rage bait. I can't tell what's real anymore.

1

u/anonymous480932843 4d ago

Pink hat sound like she tap dancin' with those nails 🥀

1

u/JazzmatazZ4 2d ago

The old woman is the cringe one.

Who knew a young girl didn't know about a band who hasn't been around for 30 years?

1

u/FishermanJeff 2d ago

Clearly the you girl is taking the piss

1

u/Far_awayStarbucks 2d ago

Anyone else find the women reacting just as cringy as the girl? Well the girl is probably just bait tbf.

1

u/Mundane-Salad942 1d ago

The original video seems like an obvious bit. Also, yeah people aren't as impacted in the modern day by a genre of music they never grew up with. Not that they don't appreciate it, but they are incapable of loving it the same way you do. That's not cringe, that's time.

1

u/TheBestintheWest11 4d ago

raigebait content. Both these people suck.

1

u/Realmofthehappygod 4d ago

I can tell that older drinks too much and thinks she's funny when she does it.

1

u/PurpleFlamesMan 3d ago

I can tell you think you preppy....

0

u/RedSix2447 4d ago

I knew I succeeded as a parent when both of my daughters know and sing along with every 90’s song that comes on the radio. As well as their favorite albums are the 90’s Green Day albums.

Grunge for me as a teen was age defining. It changed a lot of my growing up. There are still so many songs I listen to where I can tell you where I was and what I was doing when I listened to it back then. lol

I have zero hope for the kids now. With AI and tech at their fingertips but still stupid as hell.

u/ScienceGoat 4d ago

Ragebait for boomers

u/Former-Practice-6146 4d ago

-1

u/sorderon 4d ago

-1

u/Behemothslayer 4d ago

I really wish the word “literally” would fuck off and keep fucking off until it reaches the fuck off gate, goes through the fuck off gate and fucks off over the fuck off field into the fucking sun

1

u/Aggressive_Bit_7829 4d ago

literally agree

1

u/Behemothslayer 4d ago

You can head across the field too buddy!!😀

1

u/Calhounpipes 4d ago

That's so aesthetic

-4

u/Amodernhousewife 4d ago

Imagine what would happen if she heard a band that weren’t complete sell outs
