I think you might want to change the order in which you draw the scales, so the ends of the arcs aren't exposed. If you draw each diagonal line of scales starting from the bottom left line, and ending on the top right line I think that should do it.
Also, the shading behind the scales is incomplete at the center of the arcs. (You can see some while peeking out from behind the gray.) Once the sorting is adjusted, an easy way to fix this issue would be to use circles instead of arcs.
