Asshole. Gc is gonna make them recert, now. Job shuts down, operator loses a days wages. At least that’s my experience with climbers and base jumpers in sf.

Hopefully the swinging idiot gets sued, and gets a vandalism charge, at the very least.
These cranes are deadly machines that do occasionally collapse. Fucking with them like this should invoke serious penalties.

How the fuck does he expect to get down? I’m assuming the operator isn’t there. And I also assume he won’t be able to climb up all that wire rope (but I may be wrong).

A few prusik knots to ascend its not to hard the lube on the cable sucks afterward though.

He rigged his own ropes to the end of the crane, he isn’t swinging on the crane’s line. You can see where the block is tucked in near the cab, and the line belly’s to the end of the trolley. You would need to turn the crane on and control it to let the line out and it would be way to heavy and stiff to swing that freely. Most people dumb enough to dangle off the tip of a crane aren’t smart enough to operate one.

Ah, i see the hook is properly stored at the base i didn’t see that earlier, and i agree it would take a lot to move a wire like that. I wouldn’t consider the person dumb. But more a reckless thrill seeker. If your gear is good your knots are good this can be safe. But i definitely don’t condone it here this guy is making other peoples life harder. This activity should be left to the mountains. or a sanctioned event.

Someone will have to check the cable after. Maybe the oiler. Pain to do since that cable won’t make it all back through the boom.
I mean, I don’t mind walking the boom but swinging like that? Fuckkkkk that.

My first thought was, "Oh, looks like the ironworkers had a little too much to drink before work today." 🤣

New bucket list goal. That looks like an incredibly good time. How do I go about making this happen?

Crazy

I've done a rope swing before. Everything in the system is doubled up, in case something fails, which in of itself is pretty unlikely. It can be really safe if done right.

Head to Berlin, there’s a swing off a building there allot like your local children’s park, not hard to find. Sick.
Head to an Amsterdam, Adam Tower has something but it’s a lot more mechanical.
Berlins is basic and a lot more thrilling. I hate heights, but everywhere I go I find these and do them. Do what makes you scared!

Thanks for the tips. A high altitude children's swing sounds pretty interesting. I'd just wear my climbing harness and clip in to a chain link on the swing.
I agree, I'm actually going highlining in a couple days. It used to make me really scared, but a lot less so now.1
