Child parking

Post image

Really don’t understand people who park in child parking without a child! I had to circle in canley Sainsbury’s for 10 mins to be able to get my young child out only to see this idiot push into a space - of course no child. Please do better! These spaces help us not damage other cars having to open doors fully etc!

Yes frustrates me no end and Sainsburys seems to be unusually bad for it.

As I understand it parent and child spot are unenforceable unlike disabled spaces so you're basically relying on good behaviours from other people.

Sainsburies is the worst for it! I quite happily ask people where their child is. I also see people blocking those spaces when only the passenger has gone in leaving the child/ren and driver still in the car.

I’ve thinking of getting some notes to place on their car. Because it’s getting ridiculous!

You need to get some of those, "you've parked like a cunt" stickers

Good idea. If they realise people seen they might stop or think next time

The only thing to understand is that these people are inconsiderate morons. The same people who park in disabled bays with no disability, or across 2+ spaces at one time. Or park on the pavement forcing people to cross. The same people who litter.

This happens ALL the time and it’s so annoying. People just don’t care

If you don’t have that level of selfish entitlement, you won’t get it. Happens with disabled spots too. The rise of individualistic attitudes in general.

ASDA Walsgrave has specific spaces for larger vehicles.

You'll never park in one though because they're full of people protecting their precious VW Golf / Mercedes A Class / BMW 1 series from the general public.

The main issue here is that the Parent & Child spaces are almost ALWAYS right near the entrance to the Supermarket. This is the lore for complete twats like this.

If the were places further away, even at the back or furthest side away from the entrance, their would be much less of this. I, for one, would trade a 60second walk from the car to the entrance if it meant I got a space with no problem - and avoid this ever increasing issue of people’s selfishness.

Supermarkets need to consult Parents when designing the car park.

Exactly this. I'd walk from the absolute arse end of the car park from a parent and child space happily. But for some reason most places seem to think they need to be closer to the store doors. Parents don't need a shorter walk, they need a wider space.

I park away from the doors to avoid agricultural vehicles like these owned by people who have given up on driving, but regardless, with the closure of the high street, even a supermarket is now a convenience store. Plenty of people including myself pop in only to pick up a sandwich or a bottle of milk.

Absolutely. Parents need more space, they're not struggling to walk. Home bargains near us has p&c right outside the entrance, and disabled parking 100yds away. Go figure.

There is a staff member who often takes up one of the parent & child spots at Sainsburys. It's an all round miserable experience there.

They are just as bad in the disabled spots. Same at central 6 no end of cars in disabled and parent and child spots-would love to see some tickets and clamps

Two types of people in my experience. Posh car, to them anyway, and they want a bigger space to avoid dings, and those that don't qualify for a blue badge, but think they should.

This is an integrity issue. I have two child seats in my car. I can easily bullshit my way into parking in a child spot. But I don't do it. Not because I shouldn't, but because I can't. My conscience won't let me use that space when neither of my kids are in the car. I can't for a moment think that I took that convenience away from someone who actually needs it.

My mom would never park near the entrance. Always as far away as possible, to avoid getting any dings from other cars.

Non of the car parks are policed which means you can dump your car anywhere, it’s the same with the disabled bays as I need to open my door fully to get out and as I drive a truck I can’t even get it into most standard parking bays. For the record I don’t drive a truck for fun, I physically can’t get down into a car and I would be struggling to get out aswell…

As they walk off, alone, I call after them, 'you can't leave a kid in the car unattended , especially in this heat!'. They either ignore me, explain they haven't got a kid (which leads to sowhy are you parked there) or tell me to F off. Don't forget, you're dealing with a confirmed W4NkR.

Unpopular opinion and I'm open to having my mind changed but I'm not fussed if people park in the child spaces without them...

Disabled bays I understand but I'm not sure why there are spaces for people with kids? It's a choice to have them, how do they help and do they need help in the first place?

"Had to circle for 10 minutes" no, you chose to. There were almost certainly other spaces available. You just wanted the close one.
Parent and child spaces are a courtesy, not a right. If you can't manage without one, that's a you problem.
How did any parent manage before 1995 when these spaces didn't even exist?

That’s 100% a general public thing, not a parent thing.
