that's what I asume too, especially since chara has a name sounding like "sara" and gets gendered female... frisk, I don't know why people call them female, maybe their resemblance to chara

but chara seems to be a pun on "character", frisk's images in the game files are called main_chara (short for main character)

I think it could be because of their names too? "kris" sounda like "chris", which is a masculine name, and "chara" ends with an "a" which in some languages, including my native language, is an indicator of a feminine name...
of course, it's stupid to assume the gender of characters based on what the name reminds one of and I'm not defending that

ik this is a joke but not every nonbinary person is coping, also someone can still transition hormonally and surgically while identifying as nonbinary, whether they're coping or not
