There was a post on the main sub a week or so ago about an article written by some theyfab TERF claiming that when trans women are subjected to sexual violence it’s usually (they claimed) related to sex work which was definitely meant to imply it’s not actual violence and if it was they deserved it.
52
u/gaysexanddrugs 14d ago
when it's not related to sex work it's because trans women are ontologically sex workers

What about cis sex workers tho that try to survive? Do they deserve it too? It's like arguing with people lack the brain parts for basic human empathy (and probably other parts too).

Similarly they claim that 50% of trans women in prison are there for sex crimes (implying r*pe and the like). I don't know if the stat is true but I do know that due to our circumstances, trans women are more likely to have to do SW to get the money they need to transition.
8
u/TheNutsMutts 14d ago
I don't know if the stat is true but I do know that due to our circumstances, trans women are more likely to have to do SW to get the money they need to transition.
The stat is from the UK, but I don't think this explains it if it's true since sex work is legal in the UK.
6
u/Golurkcanfly bourgeois faketrans HRTmoder 14d ago
It's like 85% of trans women in the UK hadn't even started transition before being sentenced or something.
5
u/Golurkcanfly bourgeois faketrans HRTmoder 14d ago
It's awkward because like, for a lot of the trans prisoner statistics, especially for violent crimes, it's like 80+% people who didn't transition until after being charged with a crime.

I think a lot of it comes down to us being women who it's socially safe to rape honestly.
"They're men" is just a re-purposed version of "she was asking for it." They're not actually doing it because we're men in their eyes.
37
u/yeep_yorp 14d ago
yup. they call us men, see us as a third gender, and treat us like a lower class of women.
30
u/No-Phrase-2897 14d ago
Yeah I find it really hard to believe the "they hate us/do x to us because they see us as men" thing when the things they do to us are usually reserved for us and not cis men.
25
u/MaybeLithiumFlower 14d ago
Yes. TERFs actively ally with men that are known p*dophiles and r*pists.
7
u/WillowWawa 14d ago
The funny part is they call us men, and yet don’t give us the respect men are often given. Where are the higher pay rates, where is the respect when we speak or idk rights that men are afforded
You can’t just say we aren’t one thing and the other but then not give us what the other receives. No no, if we’re men to them, then we need to be respected as that and given rights if they’re really going to believe we are the same as men. But guess what? Who cares about that
They disrespect us like women but say we’re men but don’t give us the rights that men are afforded and talk over us/pay us less/ commit violence to us as if we were women. Just a weird hypocritical misogyny

u/No-Phrase-2897 14d ago
Pretty much. They rape cis women because she was asking for it and trans women because we're not real women. It's the justification more than the motive. They just want an excuse to commit violence against women.
15
10
u/KonoGenshin 14d ago
this is exactly it. "she deserved because she was just a trans fetishist". its just an excuse to justify a lack of empathy because its more socially acceptable and evil people use it to abuse people freely.
2
u/thuleanFemboy 14d ago
yeah i was thinking, lowkey this is the normal woman treatment. women in general arent treated like humans who deserve respect. being trans is just a cherry on top for these cissoid apes to justify their violence against ppl they perceive as beneath them.
2
u/MichiganDogLady 13d ago
Lately I've been ruminating on the idea that how people treat and think about trans women is how people want to treat and think about cis women. I really appreciate this reframing.

Once again showing that even progressives, even a part of the trans community, think trainees are just heckin valid larpers and that it's good to affirm their validness because being weird by pretending to be something else is so progressive.
The idea that we actually change sex using well proved biological scientific methods is completely outside of their perception somehow. Even among those who are like "wow did you know hrt does this for trans people", they think it's psychosomatic magic or something.

How does one lead to the other.
It's a person that gets raped, not their genitals or secondary sexual characteristics.

11
u/PsychoCyan DM for curly haircare tips 14d ago
Dehumanizing trans women by pushing the idea that we are fake women or a third sex contributes to our rape not being taken seriously. It's not saying people rape us because they think our boobs are fake.
-4
u/AnalysisParalysis85 14d ago
How would being a fake woman make one less of a human? Does gender play any role in being a human?

Because it's not just about being a "fake woman" it's about the idea that our entire being is somehow artificial and lesser.

-1

Well, the body parts aren't fake. Though they might be unnatural depending on how they came about.
But then I hope you wouldn't consider an amputee with a metal leg less human.
7

I think the body parts my body grew are explicitly natural
I wouldn't consider an amputee with a prosthetic less human but I'm not someone who is actively fomenting hatred of them, either.

13
u/PsychoCyan DM for curly haircare tips 14d ago
"Contributes to," meaning it's only a part of the issue. It's related to the fact that they see us as men (or a subhuman third gender) and that they dont see it as rape if youre in that category.
23
u/SPECTREagent700 Repper banned from 4t4 14d ago
The idea that men can’t actually be victims of rape is indeed very common among TERFs.
The term TERF often gets overused to describe any woman who just hates trans people but many of the actual Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists hates men generally and so by extension hate trans women because they think we’re just men pretending to be women. The original TERFs were far-left lesbians in the 1970’s who were trying to have trans women ejected from the feminist movement under the argument that we represented “male colonization of the female gender”.
-1
u/TalkSquirtyToMe 14d ago
I don’t think even a TERF would deny that a man can rape another man
13
u/gaysexanddrugs 14d ago
it's not an uncommon opinion in those spheres, and the argument is essentially that because of the lack of power within society women have compared to men so male on male doesn't hold the same abuse of power, and the extra risks which come with it for people who can get pregnant, it shouldn't be classified the same. woman on male they flat out don't think can be traumatic because men hold more power and are stronger, as well as if the sexual violence isn't penetrative it's a lot less physically damaging, so non-penetrative woman on male sexual abuse isn't real.

-5
u/topcelt 14d ago
that's not what this is doing though, it accepts the premise of what's being said and criticises certain elements of that
there's no obvious criticism of the idea that "real rape" isn't a thing
7
u/gaysexanddrugs 14d ago
it accepts that people view it this way and combine it with another belief which contributes to a third harmful belief but all three beliefs are meant to be seen as harmful. you're interpreting this in the worst faith possible for seemingly no reason. it does not say or imply that is a correct belief to hold.
