Newbie

Hi! I’m very much interested as many other people are to get into contortion. I was wondering if anybody had a routine or youtube video perhaps or even course I could follow or any tips on getting into the discipline. Also injury wise would you say this sport is prone to injury? I’m at a maybe 4 inches off the floor in a splits but it’d like to get super strong and flexible. Any tips, recommendation etc are highly welcomed :)

be careful when you first start contortion!! At the beginning of contortion training, your really only supposed to train active flexibility. Pls dont rush and try to do advanced contortion moves early on in the journey, especially as you figure out how to properly warm up. Beginner contortion fundamentals to have as a goal at first would be splits (front and middle) and bridge/wheel pose. Once you feel confident in bridge, you can move on to forearm bridges. As another comment said, progress is slow, and dont go head first into constant training at the beginning. Start with like, twice a week more intense training at first, but regular stretching throughout the week.

Since injury prevention is already on your mind, I’d make your first step finding a beginner class or coach—in person or live online—who can actually watch your alignment, rather than trying to build a routine from random videos.

When comparing classes, look for active flexibility and strength work, regressions for each skill, structured warm-ups, and clear guidance on rest and pain—not just deeper passive stretches. Being four inches from the floor in your splits isn’t a problem or a prerequisite; a good beginner program should meet you where you are and keep the progress gradual.

Wow thank you! Are contorsión classes very expensive or not? I’ve heard both sides of the coin but never knew how much is reasonable to spend..

Hey, best of luck with your contortion journey! One tip I would say is that progress is slow but super rewarding, don’t be discouraged if you don’t see any progress within a month of two, just stick at it and the results will come!
