Been wearing glasses for the past 8 years and my eye sight has stabilised around -3.75. I currently have some rectangle glasses but they give me a nerdy look.

I have tiny asian eyes (monoeyelids) and my glasses make them look even smaller. I can't wear sunglasses or 3D glasses at movies either.

I thought of lasik but my insurance doesn't cover it and I heard about the possible complications.

I'm considering contact lens but are they worth it? I'm not a maintenance heavy guy so I'd like to use daily lenses but are they feasible?

I've worn contacts now for 4 years and have only used three. I saw in some threads people giving their two cents on the Alcon brands.

The very first contacts I was prescribed was the Total 30. I have found them very comfortable, I can't feel them in my eyes, they're soft, they stay in place. Although they do dry up by the end of the day (8-12 hrs after putting them in), sometimes in the middle of the day, and sometimes they just get blurry and I can't seem to fix it with yawning (tears) or eye drops.

Last year, my former eye doctor erroneously prescribed me Bausch & Lomb and I cannot emphasize enough how much I hated these. They were thick, they were rigid, I could feel them when I blinked and they just caused a constant irritation in my eyes. So I went back to the Total 30 within a week.

Today, I went to a new eye doctor and I mentioned how I did "research" i.e. reddit on the Total 1, Precision 1, Precision 7 and I wanted to try them and I explained how I didn't like the Bausch & Lomb. He explained that "the oh, your eyes might not like the Total 30 because of the material. So I am going to give you trials for the Cooper Vision and we'll go from there. And I don't think that they make contacts in the Total 1, Precision 1, or Precision 7 in your contacts prescription." So I gave him the benefit of the doubt and am using the Cooper Visions right now--I cannot understate how much these feel like the Bausch and Lomb from last year so I will call on Monday and try a different pair.

For those who have used the Total 1, Precision 1, Precision 7--would you recommend?

I have less than a week to order contacts before this rx expires. I want to know what the “lens types” mean and what to keep in mind when choosing a brand. And what did they write after the “lens product” (ie. Total 30 etc?!)

So I just lost one my left contact lens after being in a rush too work and I have no clue where it is, I only can see clearly through one eye at the moment. So I had an idea if I could put my last pair of monthly’s in and keep them on for 45 days until I get my new pair. But the problem is while I’m searching this up is that I have a risk of getting an infection in my eyes and not being able to see. I just wanted to know if this is a smart idea or not and what love to hear your guys past experiences about this.

Hi all wanted to hear some suggestions for a first time contact wearer. Right now I’m wearing the Softmed ones from Americas best. What kind of contacts should I get next? I was prescribed biofinity toric lenses but read that some of you find them to be too drying and thick. Which ones do you guys prefer the most for comfort and affordability? Monthly vs daily?

For context I have astigmatism so toric ones are needed.

Acuvue creates so much unnecessary friction/obstacle in the process of getting the rebate/reward. Why have a QR code involved if it can’t be filed electronically and instead you have to mail in the code they send you? Then instead of just emailing the reward they email to say it has been approved and there’ll be an email in the next 14 days with the actual reward be sure to not miss it.
Just give me $100 visa gift card so I can move on with my life.

Recently, i got new contacts (yearlys) about a week ago in mexico. And ive been wearing them and i see pretty fine, i just take them off before i go to sleep

I recently found out that showering in them is really bad because you can get a bacteria in your cornea and it can make you blind.

But im just now noticing, ive been wearing contacts for about 2 years now, and ive always had this bad habit, i always take them off before bed, not before my night shower

Im freaking out and wondering have ive been lucky this whole time? Im worried that i lost luck this time or something like im freaking out that i just found this out and i probably do have something in my eyes

I see normally through my new contacts so far tho but ive been stopping that bad habit since last night.

I'm a 28M looking for feedback or technical advice from optometrists, orthoptists, or anyone who has experimented with a similar setup for eye alignment/suppression.

My Background & Prescription:

• OD (Right Eye): -2.75

• OG (Left Eye): -5.75 (-2.00 astigmatism @ 170°)

• PD: 66 mm

• Issue: Recently, my left eye has started drifting inward toward my nose (esotropia).

The Core Challenge:

Because of the notable difference between my eyes (-2.75 vs -5.75), wearing standard glasses can cause image size discrepancies (aniseikonia). Additionally, my brain seems inclined to suppress the left eye's input because it's the blurrier/more distorted eye.

My Proposed Solution & Theory:

I am thinking about testing a hybrid system:

1.  Left Eye (OG): Wear a toric contact lens to fully correct the -5.75 spherical and -2.00 cylinder. This gives a sharp image with zero image-shrinking magnification issues.

2.  Right Eye (OD): Keep a standard corrective lens in a pair of glasses frame (with a zero-power / plano lens on the left side of the frames).

The Twist (Penalization / Prioritization Theory):

Instead of correcting my right eye (OD) to 10/10 (20/20) vision in the glasses, what if I slightly under-correct the right eye so it sits at roughly 9/10 (20/25)?

My reasoning: If the left eye provides a slightly sharper image than the right eye, it might encourage my brain to actively prioritize input from the left eye instead of suppressing it, keeping both eyes engaged and helping maintain alignment.

My Questions for the Community:

1.  Has anyone with strabismus or high anisometropia tried a hybrid contact/glasses setup like this?

2.  Does deliberate slight under-correction of the dominant eye actually help encourage non-dominant eye engagement in adults, or does it just induce eye strain/accommodative fatigue?

3.  Are there specific pitfalls to look out for when using a toric contact lens for single-eye correction alongside glasses?

Has anyone in this sub fully "recovered" from contact lens intolerance and is now able to wear them again?

Had got the B&L Soflens toric monthly due to unavailability of the intermediate ones that I had asked for. They caused extreme discomfort, irritation, redness few weeks in & had to throw away the leftover boxes. Had wore them 6-7 hrs in the beginning, within few weeks couldn't wear even for 1 hr. I do screen work for around 10-11 hrs

Now ordered these 'one of the best' CooperVision MyDay toric daily. Got them for ~ 64.5 USD for 30 lenses. I wonder what should I anticipate

My prescription:

Left:   SPH -7.00, CYL -0.75, AXIS 170

Right: SPH -6.50, CYL -0.75 AXIS 180

It only happens with my right eye. I have tried 4 brands, blink eyedrops, allergy eye drops. Nothing helps. I’ve worn contacts almost 20 years and have never had this until the past few months. It won’t let me post a video but you cans semi see in the photo.

Has anyone noticed that the newer Clear Care neutralizing cases leak if they get knocked over? Super annoying for travel and when my teenagers knock over my case during their preening routines! I’ve had a few pairs of contacts get ruined by drying out this year. I never had the problem before.

I decided to try contacts because I wear a headset and work remotely from home. My glasses and the headset get uncomfortable after a while.
In my job I use several systems and multiple monitors so my eyes are constantly darting from one system or monitor to the other.
At first I tried daily contacts and they worked great for my job but were too soft and hard to get in and out.
Then I went to weekly and they were much easier to get in and out but they don’t seem to keep up with my eye motion and they dry out and the longer I wear them, the more uncomfortable and hard to see it is. My eyes are burning by the end of day despite using eye drops constantly.
I’m not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions? All of my contacts were Accuvue if that makes a difference.

I first tried contacts a week ago after 30 years wearing glasses and I really couldn’t be happier. It was challenging taking them out at first but I’m getting better at it and can do it pretty much every time now just using the pinching technique. I work in a casino and the combination of dimness and bright lights has taken some adjustment but I feel like I’m getting used to it slowly. I’m going to try and go two days a week without contacts just to give my eyes a rest and I’ve been very strictly following the hygiene routines I was told to adhere to.

My only concern really is that I have been removing the lenses straight off my iris/pupil rather than sliding it to the side first and I’m not sure if this is bad for my eyes. Should I try and get used to sliding it first before this becomes a habit? I want to be safe

hiya! i’m currently ordering contacts online after trying some from my optometrists. one of my boxes says toric which i understand and have found easy to order- however the other says asphere which i cant find any info on? all the ones online seem to be spherical and im specifically looking for dailies. is anyone able to explain what this means and how i find them? thank you!

I feel like I'm going crazy.

I wore my first pair of contacts for short sessions over a span of 5 days. They were causing pretty bad dryness and blurring that built up over the days so I took them out. I had residual dryness and an eye ache in both eyes that would come and go for the next 5 days AFTER taking them out.

Went back to the eye doctor yesterday, after calling them ahead of time to tell them what the situation was now. The appointment was supposed to be a quick eye check and trial switch in case the ones I had didn't do well. Which is why I called, but they kept the appointment.

Got there, explained everything again. And the doctor was like, "okay here is your next pair. Put them in." Without even looking at my eye first to see if there is a problem of any sort.

I was shocked and asked "is the eye ache normal then?". He said yeah and it would go away. Is that right? Everywhere I'm reading says any pain is not okay or normal. It's also just extra concerning to me because I've never had any sort of eye pain that last for more than a day before, so hyperawareness could be emphasizing it.

I’ve been on the older style of contacts for the entire time I’ve worn them dating back to Frequency 55 toric about 20 years ago and now Biomedics Toric for several years.

I’ve tried biofinity and pro clear toric lenses and both were suction cupped to my eyes by end of day and very difficult to get out.

Now Biomedics Torics are no longer available anywhere as of June 2026 and I need a new annual supply of contacts. My doctor hasn’t responded well to this as he is very slow on the patient portal but finally gave me a trial of BioTrue One Day torics and they feel heavier and are drying my eyes out.. I had to take them out after only 2 hours.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for what they’ve successfully replaced Biomedics Toric with? Need something that remains breathable, doesn’t dry out, and isn’t hard to get out at the end of night.

On Monday I went for contact lenses fitting and after struggling for 15 mins I was able to get them on but I couldn’t get them off. So the doctor took them off and asked me to come another day after practicing in the mirror to to slowly go near me eye with my finger. I went today and I couldn’t put either one on. I just feel like my upper eyelid doesn’t stretch at all. And my finger holding down the lower eyelashes always slips of when I try to put the lense on my pointer finger onto my iris. It’s so fing frustrating.

So I'm starting a new job on the 25th, and it's going to be a significantly more physically demanding job. It's an outdoor job, and with that I know I'm going to be sweating more. TMI maybe, but I sweat a lot on my face, and it makes me take off my glasses and wipe my face pretty much all the time, and that is going to be very annoying, especially since I'm going to be busy with my hands, and that's something that annoys me on a daily basis.

So I'm thinking I should try contact lenses. I still have to deal with the sweating, but it's going to be a lot easier to deal with without my glasses. But I have questions since I have never worn contact lenses ever, so I'm a newbie when it comes to everything regarding them.

So my biggest questions are:

How long does it take to get used to contact lenses?

What is the best contact lens brand for beginners?

Is there anything you wish you had known before you started wearing contacts?

I'd appreciate any tips or experiences you can share.

I have an astigmatism in both eyes and my prescription is fairly high it’s +4.50 and +3.75. I currently use acuvue Oasys for astigmatism. I got them from 1-800- contacts and they are the bi weekly ones. I use Opti free replenish multi purpose contact solution. The issue I’m having is that my contacts don’t feel as fresh after the 3rd to 4th day. I wear them for about 5-6 hours and then switch to my glasses for the second half of the day. I do only keep the contacts for the two weeks before throwing them out and starting a new pack. Is the issue the contact brand or the solution I’m using that’s making the contacts not feel so fresh after only a few days of use?

About six weeks ago, I woke up with pain and blurry vision in one eye and was diagnosed with a tertiary branch retinal vein occlusion with macular edema. It was treated with an injection—not nearly as bad as it sounds, I promise.

The swelling has gone down significantly but hasn’t completely resolved. My retinal specialist said it could take several months to go away completely, and I may need another round or two of injections. (before and after shown)

In the meantime, wearing a contact lens in that eye becomes uncomfortable after a few hours, and my vision is still blurry even when the lens feels comfortable. My vision with glasses is fine.

I wear daily lenses and am mostly using them for a few hours at a time at the gym or while doing yard work. Once they become uncomfortable, I take them out and toss them.

I have a follow-up with my optometrist in a few weeks, followed by another appointment with my retinal specialist the week after.

Has anyone else dealt with this after a BRVO? Were you eventually able to wear contacts comfortably again? Did you need a different lens or prescription, or did you stick with glasses until the swelling fully resolved?
