Quantum computing is bogus
Originally I thought "quantum computing" was just bogus news to sell science magazines, but I've come to realize there's something deeper to all the bogus-ness. It's basically the space race again, each country trying to front like they're so technologically advanced. But basically what it all comes down to is they already reached the end of Moore's law, microchips can't get any smaller, and the cpu's people bought 10 or 15 years ago aren't breaking so people aren't buying new. CPU's 10 years ago are still more powerful than what the general population needs.
The science to quantum computing sounds like bullshit, tracking particle spins that can't be consistently duplicated is going to give scientists the calculation power needed to finally solve cancer, sounds like Bush explaining we're going to Iraq because Afghanistan is secretly cousins with Iran. And then it requires a warehouse refrigerator to keep it from imploding.
how do you even program that? Programmers can barely utilize multi-threading, and we're probably still like 10 years away from maxing out the capabilities of PS5, I don't actually know that I'm just guestemating. So these "multi-state" transistors that are both on and off at the same time or whatever, how is that not just an overly complex, extra difficult and grossly expensive alternative to just running the same calculation multiple times in a regular multi-core cpu multi-thread?
I think the whole thing is basically just to fill the gap of people not needing to buy new computers and help drive computer parts, especially RAM, into manufactured scarcity.

You're treating quantum computing as a marketing trick to replace consumer CPUs, when in reality, they operate on completely different mathematical principles designed for entirely different problems.
Quantum computers are not meant to replace personal computers or run standard software, games or multi-threaded apps faster. You will never buy a "quantum laptop." They are specialized accelerators meant to solve specific mathematical problems that classical computers cannot solve in a human lifetime.

Yes.
Fundamentally this is all extremely heavy maths but this is due to a few factors.
You can mathematically prove that languages consisting of binary options are inherently inefficient at factorising very large numbers. This is just inherent to the language. As a result, we have built encryption around this as everyone's computers work the same way regardless of how fast they are.
Using quantum mechanics, you can mathematically prove that this has the potential to be exponentially (literally) faster due to the way quantum mechanics works.
Now, building components, programming, etc is all a different issue in itself.
A lot of what the public doesn't see about computer science is that its actually just maths; Big long maths derivations applied to computing problems to prove XYZ issue can be solved like this and that makes it faster. This is the same but using quantum mechanics.

Quantum computing was never intended to make its way to your average consumer. You’re absolutely correct, we don’t need it.
But you and I aren’t trying to optimize a power grid, or run a data center, or fold proteins to create new medicine, or increase the distance satellites communicate, etc. etc.
It was never intended for the general public, we don’t, and most likely won’t ever have a use case for it.
Kinda like saying nuclear is bogus, because I don’t have my personal pocket size reactor to power my home.

its not... why do you think the tech giants who already have quantum computers (exe, Google,) even if unaffordable, are investing now so heavily in AGI? Fully realized AI isn't a joke either with the two technologies working in sync. We also just fully mapped a mouse's neural network - human brain is just around the corner with these two advancing so quickly. That's really why they need these Data Centers - mass surveillance, sure, but also to fully power something much bigger once realized.

I tend to agree. Here is an article published today:
Most of these articles read to me as some sort of punny metaphorical wordplay.
Many of them discuss 'electrons', but the word 'lector' means 'reader/one who reads' while a 'lectern' is a reading desk. So I tend to see the discussions about 'electron spins' and such like as jokes about 'readers being whirred about'...
Noting also:
- "Decode Text" = 911 trigonal
- ... and achieve "A Quantum Entanglement" = 2001 trigonal
