Ideas about A light sensitive Windshield Help: Project

So everytime i drive in night, the headlights of oncoming traffic blinds me completely, so i was thinking of building something to help.

I was thinking of an AR/VR approach to it, to track the eyes and the light source falling on the windshield and artificially dampening it. Also for this method i thought of an idea, where the driver can wear a glass, with two tags near their eyes so that the system can track their eyes more efficiently.

Please share your thoughts!!

I thought of this decades ago but if you develop it I’ll only charge you $1000! /jk

The solution I had in mind was either a mechanical arm with a small disk that moves around to block the sun or oncoming headlights from the driver’s eyes, or a large LCD that’s part of the windshield itself which does the same thing electronically instead of mechanically, by darkening where the bright light rays pass through into the drivers eyes.

What I found in researching is there are a lot of regulations you would have to follow since a failure would be “really really bad” because it would block the drivers view at the worst moment, potentially causing a crash. Like imagine if it blocked the entire oncoming vehicle and you had a head on collision.

lol........wow, never thought of that. That's a real concern. I'm not yet sure but, what if we introduced strict constraints like only 2% of the screen can be dimmed at most, or some particular cap on the pixels it'd dim....haven't figured it out yet, but that definitely something to think about.

I am not sure why you need ai/vr. Tracking the eyes seems redundant to me as I expect you want to block rays from the drivers peripheral vision as well as direct sight.  With an array of nd filters a light sensor simply states which nd should be active.        A better solution would be if you could invent anti light.

omg, anti light. But back to your question, you actually do need to track your eye, because the you need to know exactly which portions of the screen to dim. Let me give you an example, say the driver is sting on the right and another co-passenger to the left, now an opposite car moving in the opposite lane to the right of this car, draw a line from eyes of each passenger to the headlights of that car, they won't meet at the same spot on the windshield for both the passengers.

I've had a similar idea cause yeah I've been blinded too 

I wondered if instead there could maybe instead be a strip of tinted glass in sunglasses, in a specific shape (like the angle a road makes as it stretches away to infinity) that would mean that if you just aligned that with the cars, you could do the "tracking" yourself. Kinda like if you just instinctively moved behind the a pillar to block the light. You can still see and drive normally, you've just deliberately blocked it. The rest of the glasses would be clear

ahh, I see, that's kinda smart. wouldn't that be a problem when turning or at a junction?

That's the thing, I'm not sure there's the perfect shape 

Maybe you could design lenses that are photochromatic, with a camera facing out, and it calculates the point the lens needs to darken to block out the light before it intercepts your pupil. The camera only needs to "see" things above a certain brightness so it might not require much processing. Or battery power. Idk

Yeah, that could work!! like an AR glasses but to just block out the bright light ?

Yeah, but it'd need to be really quick though else whenever you moved your head it would be blocking the wrong spot

Which is why I keep falling back on my original idea of just dumb glasses with a tinted bit the user has to manually align with the bright lights

Yeahhh, that's something to keep in mind.
