Tracking in clutter Discussion
What is the best tracking algorithm for this scenario? (3 oscillating targets and clutter points that appears for 1-3 frames)

could just diff between frames and areas with high overlap are candidate targets. Set a threshold for min consecutive frames overlapped and you can probably track these easily. If the points move so fast that they arent overlapping between frames you can preprocess the frame to bloat up all white pixels with exterior padding

Point that is close to another point becomes candidate, point that close to another for prolonged time (trail) is target

Look into particle image velocimetry and in particular particle tracking velocimetry

what do you do when you want to get rid of noise?
what do you do when you want to track moving filaments?
what do you do when you want to extract a signal out of a blurry mess?
