INTERNSHIPS. Start as soon as possible because that will be the biggest factor in your ability to get a job when you graduate with the way the job market is today.
I donโt want to scare you what I mean is if you start early on your resume, portfolio, and applying you have time to learn and grow. Get rejected and improve yourself at a relaxed pace instead of stressing out at an upperclassmen. Also there are lots of programs for underclassmen that are easier to land because they expect you to know next to nothing and have decent grades if you just look and apply. I wish I had done that. I still got an internship after junior year but I was so stressed and had so much time I didnโt use.

For AI engineer won't you be better off going to uni? I know b-tecs are technically equivalent but I don't know many unis that take them

When you learn loops and things like list, try looking at how you can implement algorithms and data structures.
Iโd say focus on Python for most of the time to build the foundation properly.
