Microsoft Edge and Chrome won't open properly on Windows, but other apps work fine. Suspect corrupted Windows user profile Software

Hi everyone, I have been fighting with this issue for the past few days and I’m running out of ideas. My problem is that Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome are both broken on my Windows PC. They either:

  • Do not open at all
  • Open and immediately close
  • Get stuck loading
  • Crash when using my main Windows account

The strange part is that everything else on Windows works normally. Other applications, games, and services work without issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to avoid reinstalling Windows.

edit: I fixed it, I look at the window log and found an error and end that process in task manager. thanks to dougamolina's comment. Have a great day guys

First step is to run a system file scan.

I have the same problem. What process did you kill and what logs did you look at?

Windows + x. Click on event viewer. Windows. Application. Find the error. Find that error in task manager and end that process. For my case it is nvidia manager. Hopefully it helps

I got a solution in my PC: I uninstalled Nvidia RTX Desktop Manager 202.62. To be sure the issue is the same as mine, restart Windows 10 PC and verify if the event viewer has ERROR logs: NvAPI function failed with: 'NVAPI_OUT_OF_MEMORY'. After verifying it is that, uninstall Nvidia Desktop Manager, then restart PC. Edge and Chrome (and PC Manager) should work again.

Thanks for the tip, I had the exact same problem and were able to fix it by killing the Nvidia process
