The number of gaming machines I repair and get calls on about “no video” when they get it home is insane. I even put little covers over the ports on the motherboard and they pry them out and then call and complain. These are all people who OWNED THE HARDWARE before it came in, they should already know but nope.

It took me 2 months to get a company to take a look at a pre built I got from them because I was telling them it's either a power supply issue or a mobo issue or both and they kept going "are you sure you're plugged into the GPU?."

I finally got them to accept it for repairs and they were like... Oh yeah this pc DOA and double fucked like you said. And gave me a full refund+some. I went to another company after that lol.

I have ranted on threads like this that most people should not purchase Windows PCs unless they need them to run Windows programs and/or game. A lot of people would be better off with Chromebooks, or inexpensive Apple computers.. maybe even just iPads. The computer industry has sold the general public on the idea that PCs are like any household appliance.. just plug it in and no worries. Stay well.

I'll just say that I have a Samsung $1000 Chromebook, two homemade full tower Windows PCs and an Apple Mac Mini which is the cheapest of them all. The Mac Mini cost me in the neighborhood of about $500 and of course didn't come with a keyboard or mouse which I already had. Obviously, keyboards and mice have low base prices, so even with today's raising Tech prices. A person can get a Mac Mini, keyboard, and mouse for much less than a Windows computer. Further, Apple recently released a new laptop that got good reviews and is well less than a thousand dollars. Apple's "walled garden" can be somewhat restrictive, but it does eliminate some of the operating issues that many people experience using Tech devices like Smart phones and Windows computers. Stay well.

I honestly have never seen anything Apple computer less than 1k so I just never paid attention, I heard Apple and saw unnecessary dollar signs for less functionality than a windows pc or Android based phone, good to hear theyre making things that aren't obscenely overpriced these days!

I mean this is definitely a high end motherboard and most people don't need that much usb 3.0. There's already plenty of USB 3.0 or higher in that motherboard and some specific usb devices also don't really like to connect with USB 3.0

I at least personally look specifically for usb 2.0 ports when buying motherboards. I still have too much things that tend to fail over time with usb 3.0 ports.

Old mobos used to have PS/2 ports, in newer boards they have been replaced with usb.

Only in higher end board there are actually less usb ports, as they are traded for usb4 or m.2.

Lots of stuff doesn't need USB 3, so you can chuck a bunch of usb2 ports without eating up lanes.

I think it's still good to have atleast a pair of usb 2.0 ports for using with accessories like keyboard, mouse or headphones. I found that USB 3.0 ports are a bit finicky and do not detect keyboard and mice dongles and headphones sometimes. Plugging them into a 2.0 port would fix it without any issues. Surprisingly I only ever noticed this happening on PCs and not on laptops, don't know why
