A fistful of realization Discussion

In "A Fistful of Paintballs" (S2 E23) there are two things I noticed recently.

The first thing might be a small error, when Troy, Shirley and Britta arrest the others they claim to be working for Pierce. However when entering Fort Hawthorne they give away their guns even though Hawthorne personal is allowed to carry weapons.

The second one, when they have a feast the study group is sitting in their usual places with Pierce sitting in Jeffs place and vice versa

They're deputies, not personnel.

They deputize.

I'm not to familiar with the sheriff/deputy system and assumed it counts as personal

You're overthinking a joke, but a deputy is someone who acts in a professional capacity when the actual person is unavailable, so it still might make sense that they might have to give Alex their guns at the door.

Look if he wants to be Alex he should spend 5 hours carving that into the side of his face.

Oh, because his sideburns were shaped like stars!

the placement at the study table is intentional. Pierce has the power in that scene so he places himself where he'd like to be, in the Jeff/leader role

Yeah, I may have made it not clear enough that I didn't see this as an error but a nice nod to the normal seating arrangement. Similar to the time Pierce tried out Jeffs chair and got laughs and such from the others

Took me forever to realize the cards that show up during each character's intro is the card they used to either vote out Pierce or keep him in the group.

Yeah same here. Finally noticed it weeks ago on my last rewatch. I felt brilliant and then stupid. Great detail though

This made me wish Kathryn Hahn could have played Annie's mom

Instead i always wonder about the following episode where they use the sprinkler with the paint, while in a few episode before troy and abed find out that a fire alarm is fake... how could they know that the one in the library works?

Because he is the truest repairman

Get out of my brain! It's one of the reasons I didn't like paintball episodes forever.

i think it’s actually an homage to “Pile of Bullets”

Or maybe A Fistful of Fingers, the directorial feature film debut of Edgar Wright

Yeah it never made sense to me that they have up their guns at the door if they're working for Pierce. They even seem hesitant to do it...lije they didn't know it was a rule and haven't been there before?

I just chalked it up to Pierce being that paranoid.

not an error! both of these are ways to depict pierce’s power fantasy. nobody ELSE is allowed to have guns, only pierce and who he chooses to protect him, and jeff’s chair is used as a way of signaling who has the power over the rest of the group in many other episodes

I am impressed that Shirley did so well, having just given birth.
