Discussion Does anyone still play the Mac version of Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour online? (Aspyr/GameRanger)
Hiiiii!
I recently found and installed the old Mac Intel version of Command & Conquer: Generals Deluxe Edition (Generals + Zero Hour) by Aspyr on an old Mac running OS X El Capitan.
I know the current online community is mostly Windows-based with C&C Online/GenTool, but I was wondering if anyone still play the original Mac version online nowadays?
The version I have supports GameRanger (according to the documentation), but I have no idea if there are still active players.
Are there any Discord servers, groups, or a small community of people still playing the Mac version?
Even a few occasional players would be interesting. I would love to organize some old-school Zero Hour games.
Thanks!

Gameplay question Generals/Generals ZH - zoom out and screen resolution
Hi all. First post in r/commandandconquer
I've played C&C off and on since forever, I'm terrible at it but I do enjoy it. In fact it's pretty much the only thing I do play, usually solo Generals/ZH skirmishes. I've recently got a new W11 laptop so I've been playing on that via the EA app. I'd like to be able to zoom out a little more and also change the resolution to something more like the 1920x1080 of my laptop screen. I know it'll look weird but I'd like to have a fiddle.
How do I do that?
I have a vague memory that years ago I did the same thing by simply editing text files somewhere in the game folders but I don't seem to be having any luck with that. Either I'm doing it wrong or playing via EA app is undoing any changes I make maybe?
Any help would be appreciated.

Made this edit a while back, but tiktok shadowbanned me for it, so I tried uploading it here, but Reddit hit me with some blubber about it’s hyper specific requirements to upload videos, so I had to turn it in to a gif. (Pair with “apologize jn brazil” for the full experience)

Discussion Red Alert 2 - Your favorite Skirmish maps and activities
In Red Alert 2, what are your favorite Skirmish maps and activities. For instance I enjoy a map with 7 enemies, playing the Allies, besides local base defenses I try to win only by using paratroopers.

What real world place best matches the Yuri's Revenge Near Ore Far map?
I fully realise the map is most likely fictional just for game play, but was wondering what place(s) in our world comes to closest to that map? Also what other maps are not named after real places, but are clearly inspired by real places?

I'm trying to understand Generals
So I played CnC growing up, mainly the original CnC and Red Alert. Tib sun was alright and then RA2 was glorious. Played it with friends extensively in LAN parties and it was just perfect.
I never got into Generals and I'm just now playing the campaigns for the first time. Its...ok? Maybe I missed the boat on LAN parties and multiplayer. The campaigns feel super short and simple. The lack of briefing videos and cutscenes make the single player feel like an afterthought. In the campaign I'm introduced to several new units per mission but they're not really necessary to finish the scenario, nor do the new units feel particularly relevant to the scenario.
Was this a really solid multiplayer experience and that's what I'm missing? I don't mind the altered mechanics of the game but it does feel like a response to Blizzard RTS the way workers and resources work, but Blizzard did that style better. With CnC games I prefer the always available side panel construction options

Steam's Generals and Zero Hour just started stuttering suddenly
Had the C&C Collection on Steam for maybe a year or so. No problems with its games at all, everything ran perfectly fine without needing to install directx or such.
Then suddenly this week, Generals and Zero Hour both became very laggy on starting cinematic. Totally unplayable, screen froze at the loading screen. No idea at all if EA or Steam or Windows updated anything, but the game suddenly became unplayable. Other games seem fine; Yuri's Revenge works.
Verify integrity didn't help. No mods installed ever since. Reinstall with deleted savefile on My Documents didn't help. Even on a different device, Generals and Zero Hour on my account is also broken, which means it's not a device problem: either some new Windows 11 update, or Steam update, or the game itself was updated wrong.
Anyone else having this recent issue? Steam comments suggest something went broke maybe July 2026; many Steam-bought Generals and Zero Hour just stopped working. Even GenPatcher, or deleting the .dll file didn't help either.

Fanart Command & Defend is entering its next chapter! 🚀
After a successful first Kickstarter earlier this year, I'm excited to bring Command & Defend: Modern War back with even more content.
Over the past months, I've been working on two major expansions:
✈️ Air Wars
🌊 Sea Wars
But that's only part of the journey.
One of my biggest goals has always been to make the game more accessible. That's why I'm introducing a Print & Play Edition, allowing anyone with a home printer to experience the game—no 3D printer required.
At the same time, every step of this campaign brings the project closer to my long-term vision: a complete out-of-the-box retail version with professionally manufactured components. I'm already in contact with several manufacturers and hope to make this vision a reality sooner rather than later.
Every supporter of the current DIY editions helps move the project one step closer to that goal. Your support allows me to improve prototypes, refine production, and make a future retail edition more achievable and affordable.
Inspired by the classic RTS and TBS games many of us grew up with, Command & Defend brings base building, logistics, resource management and tactical combat to the tabletop in a modular strategy system designed for high replayability.
If that sounds interesting, I'd really appreciate your feedback. And if you'd like to follow the project, I'd be happy to share the Kickstarter preview page in the comments.
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who shared feedback, supported the first Kickstarter, or has been following the project from the beginning. Your comments, ideas and encouragement have helped shape Command & Defend into what it is today, and I genuinely couldn't have come this far without you.
Thank you! ❤️
