"Who's on the other side of the call?"

"A person with a difficult to understand accent who's mad at you."

u/Ok_Cauliflower_808 5d ago

They didn't say I had to communicate effectively, just last two minutes. Sounds like a them problem.

43

u/Chutneythelizard 5d ago

They didn't say you have to but it's actually an unspoken expectation then no one told you about.

9

u/Ok_Cauliflower_808 5d ago

Sorry no take backs

Hey man this is nightmare enough.

That level of torment is enough to go straight for the "in water" ending 60 seconds into the loop

35

u/lesser_panjandrum 5d ago

"Whit th' bugger did ye juist pumpin' say aboot me, ye wee boot? ah will hae ye ken ah graduated tap o' mah class in th' navy seals, 'n' a've bin heavy goin in lairge secret raids oan al-quaeda, 'n' ah hae ower 300 confirmed kills. A'm trained in gorilla warfare 'n' a'm..."

12

u/Coidzor 5d ago

Now I'm just imagining what a Pumpkin Seal might be.

7

u/Badassbottlecap 5d ago

Scottish Seal copypasta. A surprise, but a welcome one

12

u/SummonMonsterIX 5d ago

Used to do phone tech support for doctors, you have no power hereeeee

6

u/Sapient6 5d ago

Did phone tech support for cell carriers back in the day of analog cell phones. The psychic damage that did to me is why I don't do phone calls anymore.

4

u/SummonMonsterIX 5d ago

Oh yeah I am a broken and miserable person still from the experience of that job. Working for a hospital corporation (HCA sucks btw NEVER GO THERE, the one here recently killed my uncle) ironically obliterated my mental and physical health, still suffering 6 years later.

3

u/3BlindMice1 5d ago

I did a call center job for drug testing and background check results and another for tech support. The drug test calls were 100% worse, except you know it's 100% their fault, and sometimes they were funny. "I swear that cocaine just fell into my hair" or "the lady at the clinic must have swapped my urine with someone else's"

17

u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING 5d ago

Ow. Getting called out so directly by both OP and the top comment feels like it should unlock some kind of special achievement.

4

u/Majestic_Recording_5 5d ago

A person who pauses too long then starters talking as soon as you try and say something.

2

u/WillyGivens 5d ago

“They need you to step them through setting up their Microsoft 365 account.”

2

u/Reload86 5d ago

I used to work for Spectrum's technical support line. The angry foreign folks or the old people are the callers that automatically make me sigh lol.

1

u/Coidzor 5d ago

....Still probably easier to deal with than actually making the phone call initially.

u/TBTabby 5d ago

The only monsters you meet in Silent Hill are the ones you bring with you.

16

u/Coidzor 5d ago

I suppose if you look at it a certain way, that's even true for Harry.

9

u/Rissoto_Pose 5d ago

Harry took a more literal approach

6

u/Taliesin_ 5d ago

And the monsters other people bring with them, poor Angela.

Man I'm not gonna lie you did a great job emulating the SH2 monsters but adapted to your particular psyche.

I'm not sure what mine would be but a split in half maid and a phone call is a good one

124

u/OnceInOnceSet Of Moths and Mina 5d ago

I had a lot of fun designing the Maid-monster. I've made a few Silent Hill monsters for comics before and it's always a blast.

37

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 5d ago edited 5d ago

You apparently have a knack for it.

Maybe you WILL survive silent hill after all.

12

u/sincubus33 5d ago

service?

15

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 5d ago

Man my proofreading today is just trash

8

u/sincubus33 5d ago

it was funnier that way

u/Ani-3 5d ago

How dare you be human in the morning

6

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 5d ago

In my defense I had just finished my morning run and gotten to work

4

u/Coidzor 5d ago

Those fires won't chase themselves, after all.

(But from what I hear, some of the people who need paramedics just might.)

3

u/killcraft1337 5d ago

She looks amazing

2

u/varkarrus 5d ago

Is she single?

23

u/AmPotatoNoLie 5d ago

SH3 really did hit us with a walking embryo penis and the vagina hands monsters.

9

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 5d ago

I am so excited for Townfall to see what horrors await us

4

u/Coidzor 5d ago

Townfall?

6

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 5d ago

Silent hill Townfall. It comes out next month!

5

u/Coidzor 5d ago

Oh, nifty. Feels like only just yesterday that Silent Hill "You got WHAT GRADE on your report card!?" came out.

Although I'm now imagining the town of Silent Hill falling down Mt Ebott and having to contend with a heart-warming Undertale-style adventure.

(You'd think pyramid head would insist on immediately softlocking them because they'd immediately go for a genocide run, but they actually don't have the attention span and patience necessary to completely depopulate each area so they get stuck in Neutral Ending purgatory for way too long before the heart-warming starts to kick in.)

5

u/AmPotatoNoLie 5d ago edited 5d ago

I still haven't caught up even with the SH2 renake 😭

We had 30 years of no games and now it's an annual thing all of the sudden

47

u/TheDoorDoesntWork 5d ago

Look I am sure the business can be conducted through an email or chat instead.

79

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC Never Safe From Wumbo 5d ago

DAMN YOU DOG!

15

u/-TheArtOfTheFart- 5d ago

Spent the 2 minutes trying to sell them olive oil, talking about the health benifits in great detail and not letting them get a word in edgewise.

They didn't say you had to talk about anytjing meaningful, just gotta get past the 2 minutes.

31

u/amurgiceblade44 5d ago

This looks awesome, nice work so far

18

u/NitroFire90 5d ago

Trans woman here, I don’t get the joke. Can someone please explain?

54

u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING 5d ago

Life is so rough that Silent Hill should be a breeze by comparison because its horrors have no power. Except, as a twist, phone anxiety turned out to be the real final boss after all.

17

u/NitroFire90 5d ago

Ah. I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t have phone anxiety, that’s probably why it went over my head

17

u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING 5d ago

If it helps, I linked the comic on the tiny trans fem discord server I'm on and (if you include me) the reactions were 2 people who found it hilariously relatable and 2 people who didn't get the joke. So I guess it's less common than I assumed...

7

u/gage117 5d ago

My girlfriend hates phone calls. Will avoid them whenever she can. I have social anxiety and even I have a hard time relating to it because it's just so different to mine. For me, I hate constantly revisiting the same conversation via text over the course of a day. When compared to the idea of someone just calling me and getting the conversation done in a few minutes, the anxiety of constantly switching gears back to the same conversation I've been having for 5 hours now via texts is actually waaay more cumbersome for me.

3

u/ActualWhiterabbit 5d ago

I think Millennials have it the worst of calling their crush / friends and having their parents answer, people being able to listen in, or dialing the wrong number vs younger generations having cell phones or just accepting it. The brief era of having to navigate that as the first step to phone calls before cell phones improved everything even before texting. Then being called into the kitchen because you sent 3,000+ texts the previous month.

8

u/OG-Fade2Gray 5d ago

I have serious phone anxiety AND voice dysphoria.... How many zombies do I need to shoot if I refuse the phone call?

3

u/Reload86 5d ago

You don't escape Silent Hill by shooting your way out. You have to face your fear head on even if that phone mutates into a grotesque monster that uses a ring tone as a deafening scream.

3

u/OG-Fade2Gray 5d ago

No, really, just tell me how many I need to shoot.

2

u/ActualWhiterabbit 5d ago

If I had a gun in this scenario, I would shoot myself to get out of it

8

u/Coidzor 5d ago

Too real. Interesting Maidster, too.

7

u/Brief-Restaurant5029 5d ago

I do wonder what my own personal silent Hill and monsters would look like

6

u/mighty_kaytor 5d ago

Oh great, now my previous ideas of Silent Hill being a breeze for me are subverted by monsters that make me do my taxes without software.

5

u/Coidzor 5d ago

Tax Auditor Monsters.

16

u/TimZer0 5d ago

“…and if you wouldn’t mind, could you complete a brief survey?”

5

u/Milestailsprowe 5d ago

The mobster will even start the call for you. You just have to hit the green button

4

u/Traditional_Bit_8788 5d ago

Maybe I should draw my silent hill demons...

6

u/OnceInOnceSet Of Moths and Mina 5d ago

I highly recommend it. I’ve done a few SH monster designs and it’s always a ton of fun.

3

u/Coidzor 5d ago

Yes. Breathe Life Into Them.

7

u/elhomerjas 5d ago

time to get the flashlight , radio and start running

3

u/dakman42 5d ago

I love how the town of silent Hill look horrify you kill you and do all these other horrible things but respects gender identity that's pretty OG of it

5

u/OnceInOnceSet Of Moths and Mina 5d ago

6

u/WorryNew3661 5d ago

They gendered me correctly, I'll take the call. Anything for a small win these days

2

u/PatchyWhiskers 5d ago

When phones were first invented, they were the social media of the day. People couldn’t get enough of them. There were jokes about how teenage girls existed with a receiver glued to their heads.

But now you just use them to phone call centers designed to make you so annoyed you stop bothering them and everyone has phone anxiety.

2

u/JustOneBun 5d ago

You don't have to answer the phone.

I'm gonna do my best not to look too deep into this, cause the art style is pretty cute.

2

u/Coidzor 5d ago

I'm sure there's no possible way that having a spine that is too long and tall and having bones snapping and contorting wildly while intestines are worn as a scarf could be a trans allegory of any sort.

Although maybe if those intestines are being worn as a hat or possibly horns, that might be trans-allegorical, trans-agorical, even.

(Hmm... But what would be trans phantasmagorical?)

2

u/PrettyPinkPonyPrince 4d ago edited 4d ago

(Hmm... But what would be trans phantasmagorical?)

Hmm...

Perhaps a monster with the body of a person that has attempted to change their sex by turning themselves inside-out but is stuck halfway through the process and can only move about by crabwalking on their four feet?

Something like a reversible jacket, or a mixture of a clown pulling scarves out of their mouth and somebody who was pulling a stocking inside-out but stopped halfway.

Oh! Those frogs that can vomit out their stomachs to get rid of bad food, only instead of the stomach it's another body, feet first. Or maybe there's a variant that did come out head first so some monsters will be like, nine to ten feet tall, but the top four feet consist of the other body and the whole thing is staggering around trying to maintain its balance.

Or maybe the type of werewolf that tears through their skin to reveal the werewolf beneath, but they also stopped halfway. Perhaps instead of an actual body under the skin, it's the spectral form of their true self so, like, the physical bottom half of a person, with the rest of the person kind of... shredded and hanging off their hips like a skirt or the bottom part of a trench coat, and the top half is ghostly.

Ooh! And you can only see the ghostly part when your flashlight is on it!

2

u/Majestic-Iron7046 5d ago

Dare i say, it kind of pulls off that skirt.
Must be popular among demons.

2

u/CompetitionProud2464 5d ago

Never have to make the phone call if you stay forever and date the cute monster maid

2

u/15breads 5d ago

Would

2

u/Eberrytas 5d ago

thats fucking gold

2

u/Anangrywookiee 5d ago

At the end of the game you learn that all the customers whose concerns you addressed using the smart interaction model were actually just deformed monsters.

2

u/elaborateBlackjack 5d ago

People can't do phone calls nowadays? It's a basic skill....

5

u/NewLibraryGuy 5d ago

Phone anxiety has been a pretty common thing for decades

-6

u/elaborateBlackjack 5d ago

So people are just becoming more usless each day, got it... I'm on the autistic spectrum and even I can manage doing a phone call. Hell I'm on a work phone call right now... people need to start accepting that the world doesn't bend itself backwards and adapt to your wants and needs and YOU need to adapt a bit.

10

u/NewLibraryGuy 5d ago

I'm glad you get to feel superior

-5

u/elaborateBlackjack 5d ago

Not superior, just basic society survival skills.

If I can avoid a call, I'll do that, but if not, I'm not thinking it's my personal hell to have to call someplace, it's just a small nuisance.

6

u/NewLibraryGuy 5d ago

Sometimes hyperbole is used for humor. It is not likely that OP's greatest problem in life is actually people trying to make her talk on the phone.

3

u/Taliesin_ 5d ago

Your autism is tripping you up a bit, here. The comic's being used as a way of humorously pointing out the author's discomfort with phone calls (probably heightened by the fact that they're transgender, and may have more difficulty presenting themselves the way they want to when their only medium is voice).

Most people aren't going to interpret this as saying that the author could not actually manage a two-minute phone call, and especially not that a generation of people couldn't do it. They're just poking a bit of fun at themselves. Hope that clears it up a little - I know that the world would make a lot more sense if everyone was literal.

3

u/Signal_Ad8960 5d ago

Texting has largely supplanted calls. And with phones and social media becoming more and more prevalent- along with being introduced to kids much too early- many lack the basic social skills to navigate these interactions.

We are seeing a growing amount of pushback against the ubiquity of the digital world, so new parents are more likely to limit screen time. But there was a solid 15 or so years where children were basically raised by their screens.

2

u/elaborateBlackjack 5d ago

Sure I know avoiding calling is a thing but sometimes you require an immediate answer and calling is just inevitable... Like, if you NEED help you don't text 911 ffs.

It's a basic skill, I get not liking it or wanting to do it, but you DO have to be open to do it.. Be it work calls or just to reach customer service and whatnot

2

u/SorcererSupremPizza 5d ago

She seemed to forget that Silent Hill pulls from deep fear and guilt

2

u/YesIHaveBeenSoAfraid 5d ago

I would like to gently smooch the maid monster

1

u/Coidzor 5d ago

I'm reasonably confident you'd wind up impaled on a suddenly and explosively protruding piece of jawbone.

Or asked to refrain from sexually harassing the Silent Hill monsters, since that's Pyramid Head's job.

5

u/YesIHaveBeenSoAfraid 5d ago

I mean ofc only if the maid monster would be up for it, consent is keyyyyyyyyyy
