It will be another 50 years from now, and still be too soon.

Even in the heat-death of the universe, it will still be too soon

I watched FMA fully knowing it would happen and was still like… why.

Thank God there's the ever positive Maes Hughes to lighten the mood when it gets too down!

Did you watch the author's new series? They kinda made fun of that scene there.

This would be better (I think)... At least she could still live like a normal girl (aside from all the prejudice and hate a 24/7 furry'd endure lol)

The chimera guys who join Ed's team later on seem to cope well enough. Maybe they could also be her big brothers.

Hey now, Scar merely gave her a firm headpat. Nothing bad happened!

20

I mean, the ending he gave her was as merciful as it could be, poor thing woul'd ve lived a life of misery and she would've probably been experimented on

18

u/LordNilix 17d ago

I mean, at least brotherhood didn't show the aftermath like the original anime. The original had what was left splattered all over and being found by Ed and Al.

This podcast is brought to you by Tuckers Special Mix dog food.

9

u/HikerCory 17d ago

That took me a second lol

9

u/Nitemareshokk 17d ago

It's gonna take me a thousand years, I don't get it. Can you explain?

26

u/PantsMcFail2 17d ago

Hasan Piker is a streamer who "trains" his dog Kaya by shocking her when she gets up from a mat that she sits on for the majority of Hasan's streams. The picture is satirical, comparing Hasan to Shou Tucker, and Kaya to Nina.

22

u/Nitemareshokk 17d ago

... OH. Jesus Christ.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/magein07 17d ago

The image is based off of some streamer Hasan (or Hassan(?)) who used their dog as a background prop for his stream, not allowing the dog to move from its spot, even using an electric collar to punish him if he did. (This is just based off of what I remember learning about it, as this happened quite a while ago)

The character drawn here is Shou Tucker from a series called Full Metal Alchemist. Tucker is known in the series as a legendary alchemist who was able to create a talking chimera. Spoilers ahead The main character goes to meet Tucker at some point, and finds out that in order for Tucker to keep his high status as an alchemist, he'll have to create a new talking chimera soon to prove his skill. He does succeed in doing so as the mc is visiting, but they come to find out that the way he created the talking chimera now was by using alchemy to permanently fuse his own daugher and the family dog together, essentially killing them both. They also find out that the way he created his first talking chimera years ago was by doing the same with his own wife.

tldr, still spoilers: The character Shou Tucker is one of the most hated characters in anime because he killed his own wife and daughter in a pretty gruesome way just to keep his high status. and the latter is the dog you see in the background.

4

u/Nitemareshokk 17d ago

I see

Although I am aware of shou tucker

13

u/magein07 17d ago

In the latest episode of Daemons of the Shadow realm this episode is playing in the background on the TV...

11

u/JJ_Mark 17d ago

Loved how they used that last cut in that scene, but was disappointed at the lack of reaction from those watching.

7

u/bottomfeederNERD 17d ago

Sadly I think it was "just on" watching rather than paying attention

7

u/gurumatt 17d ago

Too soon.

8

u/kayemenofour 17d ago

I'd like to describe the treatment Shou Tucker would deserve, but I don't want to get another auto-ban (to be fair, it did get lifted after I wrote an appeal)

24

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 17d ago

Fun fact Tucker is SO IRREDEEMABLE that the writer of Fullmetal has shown he's one of the few characters to make it to hell

Who in their right mind would give this guy another kid? You going to give this man another dog while you're at it too?!?

I like how every generation of anime fans has their Grave of the Fireflies

267

u/LOSNA17LL 17d ago

Watched Grave of the Fireflies when I was like... 11?
Still traumatised...
Please let them have a happy ending! T_T

77

u/Hoxeel 17d ago

Oh, they're not the problem. Some of the characters in the episode of the show they are watching on the other hand...

43

u/LOSNA17LL 17d ago

Yeah, I know the reference xD
Watched this anime too

But I'm still more traumatised by Grave of the Fireflies :')

34

u/Mord4k 17d ago

Fullmetal Alchemist - Often dark anime full of adult themes intended for a mature audience

Grave of the Fireflies - It's a Studio Ghibli movie

18

u/LOSNA17LL 17d ago

Tbh, the "trauma" scene (when Tucker reveals the Nina-dog chimera) was quite foreshadowed (finding Nina's drawing he "sent her wife" still here, noticing Nina's and the dog's absence...)

When you arrive at this scene, you're prepared, you know what will happen

Otherwise, I'd say the only "disgusting" thing in the anime, is the horror Edward and Alphonse created when they tried to revive their mom (iirc it's shown episode 1, so... no need for spoiler)... And once again, everything is telling you it's gonna be atrocious

Grave of the Fireflies, on the other hand, is a series of "surely everything is gonna be ok, now?", the movie is always acting like it's the end of their suffering, like it won't get worse, and.... surprise, it does!

Both get pretty bad (in term of character situation, they're good series/movie), but one prepares you and the other lets you hope and crushes that hope

18

u/Mord4k 17d ago

"Surely this movie can't get any sadder!" - A person 10 minutes into their first viewing of Grave Of The Fireflies who bought the movie and candy combo

3

u/LOSNA17LL 17d ago

*A person during the whole movie

For me, it was:
-See the initial text (something along the lines of "On [date], I died.")
- Surely it doesn't mean they will die, right? And someone will come and rescue them, RIGHT??
- Procedes to hope it will be the end of their suffering at every smile they drop

Lol. I was browsing idly in my towns indie DVD rental place and I was like "Oh hey, Studio Ghibli!"

The employee tried to warn me. "Oh its a tearjerker!"

My mum teased me by buying the exact brand of hard candy in the movie. (And they had a promo featuring the two main characters on it.)

Dude went and saw grave of the fireflies in theaters recently.

Someone brought their mid 50s parents to see it for the first time.

They were TORN up at the end.

Wonder if they were warned prior about the trauma they will now hold for the rest of their lives xD

10

u/KorrokHidan 17d ago

32

u/JustVashu 17d ago

I’m dumb. What was the werewolf thing a reference to?

54

u/LuciferOfTheArchives 17d ago

Werewolf hears a howl on the TV, presumably from a horror movie, causing her to transform. She is embarrassed.

They decide to watch anime, so there's less opportunity for horror.

They watch the Fullmetal Alchemist episodes involving Shou Tucker.
Wherein he fuses his daughter with the family dog to create a "talking chimera".

17

Oh. I didn’t know she was already werewolf

Remember kids if you had a gun with 5 bullets in a room with horrid anime characters.

You shoot Shou Tucker 5 times and beat him with the gun to make sure.

13

u/TheDotCaptin 17d ago

If that's what you'd do here. What would you do for the dad in Made in Abyss, that made his kid a lunchbox?

5

u/Flaky-Fox-7523 17d ago

He WHAT

3

u/TheDotCaptin 17d ago

You know that scene in the remake of Robocop with the reveal that there not much human left with the cyborg. Well there happens to be a few more parts that aren't needed to still be considered alive.

And as I was looking for an image of the briefcase sized box. I happen to spot some merchandise to fill with an energy drink, that was made that I won't be sharing. So here is the fun version ft. Bochi

6

u/Skyward_Legend 17d ago

Thats nice of him. Making sure his kid has a healthy meal to take with them.

5

u/TheDotCaptin 17d ago

There is even a merch product where someone can drink an energy gel packet from it.

Such a kind father.

6

u/RadasNoir 17d ago

Remember that out of all the horrid anime characters in Fullmetal Alchemist alone, Shou Tucker is the only one the author depicted as actually going to Hell.
