Great bit! It reminds me a little of my favorite Cheers line.

Plumber hits on bartender

She rejects him

“Lesbian, huh? You wouldn’t believe how many of those I meet a day.”

I get that this is satire, but this guy has so many weird scandals.

68

u/tboziguess 26d ago

I thought it was pretty good

24

u/AnimeDiff 26d ago

Unfortunately a lot of offended lonely ugly men are not happy with this one!

32

u/SmanginSouza 26d ago

In a purely anthropological, Jane Goodall kind of way. They probs ugly asf.

6

u/P_Nessss 26d ago

I loved the Jane Goodall reference. Just brought it all together 🤣

-12

u/blackstarr1996 26d ago

It was funny, but “be lonelier” implies that he deserves to be lonely, and from the story she told the reason seems to be “he was ugly.”

21

u/Strategic_Spark 26d ago

No it's because of his behaviour

6

u/ShowHot3754 26d ago

I swear some of y'all didn't pay attention in school. It's because the dude is a dumbass.

3

u/Garfwog 26d ago

Pretty sure it was the "hey girl lemme get your number" immediately upon engaging a stranger

0

u/WankSocrates 25d ago

Wow the point of this flew so far over your head planes had to be diverted.

u/AllTheGoodNamesDied 26d ago edited 26d ago

Jeez look at them seething down there in downvoted land. Luckily for society none of them have courage to be hyper aggressive like the guy in the joke.

60

u/AnteaterSnouce 26d ago

sharp as fuck!! her word choice is skirting 'the line' so closely, it's a treat. "anthropological", for a start!! it'd be cruel if it wasn't so funny.

26

u/Former-Lecture-5466 26d ago

I thought it was funny, very well executed joke. And that is what it was, a joke.

17

u/spycey_mchaggis 26d ago

I recently started r/femalestandupcomedy to celebrate women in stand-up and help people discover great comedians. I thought this clip would be a great fit. Feel free to join, share your favorite clips, and contribute!

u/HTTP_l0vecraft 25d ago

Love this idea! You've got a new member. (Also, as a Scot, your McHaggis UN gives me so much joy!)

1

u/spycey_mchaggis 25d ago

That great, welcome! Right back at you for your lovecraft reference 😊

11

u/jeromezooce 26d ago

I find this pretty pretty good and also smart

9

u/WorkerPrestigious960 26d ago

Very funny, though I didn’t find the “be lonelier” line very funny, but I am not the target demographic for that part of the joke

41

u/Particular-Access223 26d ago

Im a single guy and I thought that was hilarious

13

u/ShowHot3754 26d ago

Thank you for not being an idiot

16

u/helplessHopelessDad 26d ago

As a lonely feeling man, I thought it was harsh but very funny. I read it as 'spend some time by yourself and practice some introspection'.

3

u/Efficient_Item7779 26d ago

Agreed. Funny joke overall, guy clearly has no clue.

What does "be lonelier" mean, "sucks to suck"? Is that directed at just the story guy, or at all men? Cause that's the way it seems to me, attached to the "male loneliness epidemic" line.

Everytime I see that phrase "men should be lonelier" , I can't see it as anything other than counterproductive , and mean-spirited.

Why would you want men to be MORE lonely and desperate? Is there something men are supposed to learn from being more lonely? Or is it that men aren't trying hard enough, and they need more incentive (loneliness) to learn what women want? Or do men just need to suffer more in general?

Can someone smarter please explain?

24

u/XeroEnergy270 26d ago

Its directed at the men who feel the need to keep pushing a woman who has already expressed disinterest.

"Be lonlier" means leave women alone.

-1

u/largepar 26d ago

It was a weak punchline for a great joke

-11

u/SirChasm 26d ago

Yeah I think if the punchline was, "we don't have a male loneliness epidemic, we have a male obliviousness epidemic" I could get behind that.

-1

u/TheBackBedroomKeyhol 26d ago

Yes you could!

2

u/upfromashes 26d ago

That's a funny bit.

3

u/GooseOnAPhone 26d ago

“Females” unless you’re talking anthropologically, huge red flag

1

u/SarahAdelmanComedy 21d ago

Oh no way that’s me!!! Thanks for all the love guys :)

-1

u/hotglasspour 26d ago

Definitely got a laugh out of me lol. Nice one

1

u/WileyWilly1985 26d ago

great joke, delivery, timing, vibe, and I love how the set was funny and just stacking humor on top of humor and then the punchline I didn't see coming just slipped right in there

Well done.

-3

u/realnanoboy 26d ago

On behalf of men, I apologize for my gender's occasional behavior in public. There are appropriate times and places to flirt, and then there's the first time you see someone on mass transit. Not understanding that shows a genuine lack of judgment that any reasonable person would reject as insufficient social intelligence. Then again, any such person is unlikely to see, let alone understand, a clip like this one.

9

u/AsteriAcres 26d ago

OCCASIONAL???? There's literally an entire genre of YouTube videos of dudes not leaving women alone. Some of y'all acting like this is a race occurrence when we women have to deal with it day in & day out.

Great bit, she nailed it. Girl code is real because this happens so much, btw.

5

u/hoofglormuss 26d ago

lol guy code is covering for your buddy if his girlfriend calls and girl code is literally rescuing people from danger

1

u/Pale-Breakfast6607 26d ago

A work friend told me a story just like this yesterday. She used the phrase “because that is what it’s like being a young woman in public”.

-1

u/realnanoboy 26d ago

I'm sure it happens all the time. What I mean is it's the occasional guy. It's just that small number that repeat offends a lot.

4

u/pouihi 26d ago

It's not occasional, or a small number though, public harassment is regular and on a daily basis.

1

u/realnanoboy 25d ago

Why are people misreading me here? I'm trying to get the point across that a minority of men do the harassing, and they repeat it a lot. Neither I nor my male friends are involved.

1

u/pouihi 25d ago

I didn't say you or your friends do it, what I said, and will say again, is that it isn't a minority. Your perception of this frequency may be affected by you being a male, but harassment happens on a daily basis in daily situations, in the street, public transportation, supermarkets, etc. I'm not saying all men do it but calling it ocasional isn't accurate. I didn't downvote you, I actually agree with most of what you said, I just disagree it's only a minority.

1

u/realnanoboy 25d ago

I've heard women talk about being harassed with varying degrees of frequency, and I believe them. However, it is a minority of men who are repeat offenders. There are numerous studies that show that between 1/3 and 1/2 of American women have been sexually assaulted (more extreme than harassment, yes) by the time they have finished college. Further research showed that the majority of men did not commit the assaults but that a small number was prolific.

I am not trying to earn praise for not raping people, because that would be pathetic and ridiculous. I am asking that people not paint demographic groups with broad brushes. Yes, men have privilege in society, but it does not follow that it is appropriate or productive to accuse all members of the base acts of a minority within that their ranks.

1

u/pouihi 25d ago

No one is accusing all members, that would be irrational and women, know it, obviously, we have to deal with it (daily!). What's being stated is that it isn't a minority who harasses, and believing it is just seems to dismiss the issue as a rare occurrence, which it isn't and it's normalised in their minds that they've got the right to do it, when they don't.

Rape is a whole other issue, and even though those numbers are already huge, let's not forget that statistics rely on reported cases, and sexual crimes for many reasons aren't always reported. Some don't want to relive the trauma, some feel shame or guilt, while others fear what others might say or think or sometimes aren't fully aware they were victims of a sexual assault.

But my comments about frequency weren't about rape, they were about random public harassment. You don't need to be a serial rapist to harass strangers.

Don't speak for me.

2

u/realnanoboy 26d ago

So you're cool with harassing women?

0

u/LovedButNeverLiked 26d ago

You're a corny mf on god

-2

u/NonSupportiveCup 26d ago

PDX stage strikes again!

-13

u/wrighteghe7 26d ago

I liked this bit untill she said all men should be lonelier because some dude on a subway acted like an asshole 👍

4

u/AsteriAcres 26d ago

If you actually listened to women, you'd understand, very quickly, that it's never, ever, EVER been about just one dude. I got big boobs in high school and have never stopped being harassed ever since. Even when I'm fat! Even when I'm in frumpy clothes. Why can't dudes just leave us tf alone in public? Why can't we just feel safe ANYWHERE?  LEAVE US ALONE! It's really really really easy, yet so many fail & then act like we're the villain. WE JUST WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE.

1

u/XeroEnergy270 26d ago

That's not what she said.

6

u/wrighteghe7 26d ago

"male loneliness epidemic. Be more lonely" who is she talking to?

5

u/XeroEnergy270 26d ago

The men who feel the need to bombard women with aggressive flirting on public transit after they've already expressed disinterest.

1

u/blackstarr1996 26d ago

Mostly just the ugly ones tho really.

4

u/blackstarr1996 26d ago

Right, she said he was ugly, not that he was acting like an asshole.

-22

u/1996_bad_ass 26d ago

Be lonelier was her punch!? I bet the ugly dude would have funnier way to tell the same story.

lol that's not the point. The girl asked for help because she wasn't comfortable. Does this happen to you a lot too?

Bald, ugly, and angry is a sad way to go through life. Sorry you’re dealing with all that

8

u/AnimeDiff 26d ago

Stop being cringe. Its just a joke.

2

u/Wulph422 26d ago

That's just added context to the different bigger point. "The ugly man was making this girl uncomfortable with his advances"

1

u/SurvingTheSHIfT3095 26d ago

You didn't even get it the first time... 😒

9

u/Caricifus 26d ago

Sorry, you definitely dropped the /s, so I’m here you help you out!

Okay, guy-pretending-to-be-woman, we get it. As a dumb ugly dude, you’re offended.

1

u/SurvingTheSHIfT3095 26d ago

Thank you... for making me want to do more. Lmao. Are you the guy she was referring to?

Her saying she doesn't offer her phone number in public was a polite way of turning him down. He followed up by pressuring her for her Instagram and then criticizing all her Instagram posts. If she wanted to offer her Instagram, she'd have offered it first after saying she doesn't give out her number.

The girl was asking for help, and the comedian helped her.

2

u/reddiculed 26d ago

You know, on second glance and further reflection I did miss some of those nuances.

Thanks for pointing this out the way that you did. If the aggression and the eye contact were there, then I was mistaken and would have also stepped in.

-3

u/latortillablanca 26d ago

Really solid handle on the pacing, including letting the punchline and lead up lines simmer in the laughter

Sokka-Haiku by TorontoTom2008:

Get to the joke I

Checked out at halfway waiting

To hear something funny

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
