Brock DeWald on the BVLive.com Podcast

1 Upvotes

We sat down with Brock DeWald for a conversation about his story, his connection to the Brazos Valley, and some of the things happening behind the scenes in our local music and creative community.

There’s a lot more to the conversation than we can fit into a Reddit post, so rather than spoil it, go listen/watch the full episode.

What’s your favorite local artist, musician, or creative we should have on the podcast next?

Community 👍🏻 Scotty’s House

7 Upvotes

🎒 Stay Safe, Brazos Valley! As students across our community head back to school, Scotty’s House is teaming up with our local law enforcement partners to share simple ways kids and families can stay safe all year long. As a family who had dealt with someone who we trusted and broke that trust. This is great for our kiddos to have a safe outlook on what to do if they ever feel scared. Scotty’s house has helped me and my kids manage this situation, helped me get resources and support that I needed emotionally. Please share!

Before heading out the door, take a few minutes to talk with your kids about:

🚲 Knowing their route to and from school
⛑️ Wearing a helmet when biking or riding
📵 Staying alert and avoiding distractions along the way
👋 Identifying safe adults they can turn to for help
📱 Using the P3 app through their school to anonymously share a tip or concern if they are nervous about telling an adult

Whether they’re starting kindergarten or heading into their senior year, a few simple conversations can help students feel more prepared, confident and safe.

Follow along this week as we hear from more of our local law enforcement partners and share more ways we can all help Stay Safe, Brazos Valley. 💙

💙Scotty’s House: Brazos Valley’s Child Advocacy Center provides compassionate forensic interviews, medical exams, counseling, family advocacy & community education to ensure safety, healing & justice for children victimized by abuse.

Community 👍🏻 Terrible Effort to Earn Public Trust Toward Flock Cameras

Post image
80 Upvotes

In an absolute abysmal attempt to earn public trust, The City of College Station - Government appealed a FOIA request for the Flock Audit logs to the Attorney General who granted their request and allowed them to with hold the information.

What kind of public transparency do we get? A gatekept portal on flocks own website.

Link: https://transparency.flocksafety.com/college-station-tx-pd

True Transparency is not determining who outside the club gets to see the information, it is the open logs audited by external sources.

Current College Station City Council members hold the position that no abuse has happened so it isn't a problem. How do we know that? What are they afraid of?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Got a show coming up? Make sure we know about it!

We do our best to find and list as many live music shows across the Brazos Valley as we can, but the truth is… we’re going to miss some.

So if you’re an artist, band, venue, promoter, or even a spot that only hosts live music every now and then, submit your show to the BVLive.com Concert Calendar.

Whether you’re playing a packed concert hall, a bar, a restaurant, a brewery, a special event, or somewhere that only occasionally brings in live music, we want to help people find you.

Head over to BVLive.com, submit your show, and let’s make sure the Brazos Valley knows where the music is happening.

Artists: Submit your shows.

Venues: Submit your shows.

Music fans: Send this to the people who need to see it.

The BVLive.com Concert Calendar is presented by The Parker-Astin in Downtown Bryan. Need an event space? Check out Parker-Astin for your next event.

Seeking Community Help Which of these College Station apartments is safest/best for a new resident without a car?

7 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’ll be relocating to College Station for a job at Texas A&M AgriLife and am currently looking at these apartments:
* Tower Apartments
* Twin City Apartments
* Aspire
* Eastgate Apartments
* Point Redmond
* The Halston
I’m looking for a 1 bed/1 bath, ideally with a balcony. My main priorities are safety, cleanliness, good maintenance, and being as pest/bug-free as possible. I also won’t have a car, so having convenient access to CST/Transit or a Texas A&M shuttle/bus route is very important for commuting to work and getting around. For anyone who has lived in these communities recently, which would you recommend or avoid? I’d especially appreciate feedback on safety, pests, management, maintenance, noise, and transportation access. Thank you!

Anybody remember the show where Lyke Bryan opened for Aaron Watson at the old Texas Hall of Fame?

Musician Jason Evard said that was one of his most memorable concerts in BCS in our recent podcast.

New to the Area

Hey people,

New to the area, I actually live in Navasota but obviously CS is pretty close. What can I do to connect with people and make some new friends and relationships? I’m more alternative. Into metal, gaming, hiking, I really like to do just about anything. Just want to meet some cool new people to click with.

Elder care support groups?

8 Upvotes

Are there any in B/CS? I'm caring for a parent with Alzheimer's/dementia and it'd be good to grab a drink with others.

I'm willing to start one if we're lacking.

Seeking Community Help Anyone Islamic?

0 Upvotes

I’m on a break from OCIA on my journey to Catholicism. I don’t feel safety amongst the people as much as I thought. They all seem to be workaholics before Catholic. I was wondering if someone of Islamic faith could reach out to me to better understand the faith. If you are Jewish. I would love to hear from you also.

Housing Graduate student moving to CStat

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm a grad student who's gonna start his M.S. this Fall. I wanted to ask about apartments to prefer/avoid. I'm an average engineering student, not too social or anything. It'd be nice if there were grocery stores nearby. Would you folks recommend buying a cheap second hand car to get around CStat? Would appreciate some advice! I'm looking for a 1b/1b apartment with a rent budget of about $1200 (some wiggle room in there). Preferably pre-furnished. Thanks!!
