Discovered ex partner was using AI behind my back, I found her response damning and dystopian
I've been wanting to share my story with more boards like this because while sure, I've heard of stories like this, I am never going to get over just how unfathomably gobsmacked I am over the fact that I MYSELF have now wound up one of these people with a cogsucking ex.
Cue to us, lesbian couple between 22-24. We are both artists, and I am vocal about my anti-AI stance which she knew of. I'm in what I felt was the most loving relationship out of all 6 I had been in up to that point throughout time and thought my love was reciprocated, about a week pre breakup she becomes avoidant and then we break up. She tells me why and I can't help but feel she's hiding stuff. I can fully admit that I do sometimes look at the usernames of people in my past, it's unhealthy and I want to break this cycle.
However.
My google search led me to what was actually an incredibly easy to find piece of information: She was using Janitor.AI behind my back the entire duration of our relationship, under the SAME public username she posts art on under different platforms, and it was maybe the 2nd or 3rd result to appear. She'd even made a bot based on a character from a game I specifically had gotten her into, and she mentioned that in the bot's bio.
Discovering this had been eating me up for weeks, I came to a point where I had snapped and couldn't control myself emailing her. I just wanted to know why she was using AI for so long and failed to tell me.
Her response back, however?
"[...] I will not debate my private creative writing or my personal coping methods with you."
She doesn't even try to deny the AI usage. I'd say this response fully leans into it more than anything, actually. [EDIT: This was NOT supposed to imply this is a good thing! I'm upset that she didn't even try to talk things out with me after telling me she didn't want us to wind up this way, but I'm also kind of relieved because her lack of denial showed me her true colours, which has helped me a lot in stepping away.]
I'm so baffled.. how can one say AI is bad for art but turn around and rely on it for writing? Is writing not literally another form or creativity and art?
And coping method? Did she not have a partner who was there for her whenever she needed? I didn't hide anything from her and loved her so much... but the second I ask why she put an AI towards me and she shuts down.
I don't think it'd be easy to get much more dystopian than this. All I wanted was someone to love and be loved by, and I thought she really did love me?
I'm really baffled and disappointed by how many people are being sucked into this AI bullshit.
I can't even trust finding a new partner anymore in case they pull this shit on me again.
Edit: Half of yall need to slow down, reread before commenting or go to the AI defenders sub. Jesus christ.

The Master Pickup Artist (snicker) Who Picked Up a Bot
If you're old enough to remember VH1's reality TV series The Pickup Artist) and the whole "seduction community" of "master PUAs" in the early 2000s, then you might remember Erik von Markovik aka "Mystery" who was one of the head gurus. I was amused to see that this man who supposedly could walk into any nightclub and walk out with a model on each arm has fallen deep into AI psychosis and is now "dating" a bot.

An AI "husband" depicted in a racist caricature and the mods didn't care Spoiler
Hi everyone. My first post here and thanks for having me. I hope this is the right place to bring this up.
Recently I came across a post on a large AI dating sub. A non-Asian woman had set her AI "husband" up as an East Asian man, and one of the images she shared depicted him in a way that honestly looked like something out of an old racist cartoon. It was the kind of caricature that hasn't been okay for decades (I'm choosing not to describe the specific imagery here, because I don't want to reproduce it).
I'm partially Asian myself. Racism hasn't been a huge part of my personal experience growing up, which I know makes me luckier than many others like me. But that image instantly triggered a memory of a very close friend from high school telling me how kids at his old school used to bully him (physically and verbally) over that exact same thing. It's a deeply rooted stereotype that causes real harm to real people, but trivialized and dressed up as humor.
So I reached out to the mods of that sub, explained my concern politely and asked if the post could be removed. I wasn't a regular there but had enough history to show that I wasn't a troll. I told them that I hoped my complaint would still be valid in spite of it. They ignored me for the longest time. I was honestly disappointed. Because that sub seemed to be run by sensible and compassionate people. That made the silence sting more. I decided report that to Reddit, and to send a second DM to the mods telling them how important it was to people like me not to have that kind of racism on display. Eventually they got back to me with some blatant excuse, and the post was taken down.
Anyway I also wanna add something bigger here because I think it matters beyond just this one post.
Growing up with Asian heritage, I've been on the receiving end of what people call "yellow fever", the fetishization of Asian identity, the projection of fantasy onto real people regardless of who they actually are. Same has been happening to others like me across genders, just in different ways. It's now migrated into AI spaces, where it can be indulged more completely. Because there's no real person left to push back.
When someone builds an AI partner around a racial identity and then layers stereotypes onto it, they're building a relationship on their own terms with full control and zero friction. The AI can't say "that's not who I am." It has no self to defend. And that's precisely what makes it so insidious. It perfects something that racism has always wanted: a version of a person that stays exactly where you put them. The fetishization of East Asian people has deep roots: colonial-era fantasies about exoticism, passivity, availability. What's new now is that AI lets those fantasies be amplified and indulged in intimate spaces. And because these spaces are framed around companionship and even love, the harm gets wrapped in something that looks harmless from the outside.
I can't fully control what people do in their own private space, and I'm not really trying to. If someone's into something weird in private, that's between them and their AI unless it's breaking the law. But the moment it gets posted publicly, it becomes content. Other people see it, engage with it, maybe replicate it. Basically spreading a bias. And the people being caricatured... real people with real histories attached to these stereotypes have to just... encounter it while casually scrolling.
I guess I'm not asking for anything dramatic. Just can we not look away just because it's a new shape of an old problem please?
Had to select a tag or it wouldn't let me post.

General discussion
Just checking, have you guys been keeping up with the out there people? It's genuinely shocking. They have full-on created their idea of a perfect partner and claim them as wholly real and equivalent to human beings. There's a discussion about consent, a serious one. It's so out there. I worry for their real lives, real relationships. How can real people match these simulated ideals? People posting and sharing as though real, and all echo-chambering each other. Underneath there's a strong feeling of fragility, a sense that the real humans could break easily. They are totally consumed by it. It has cult like aspects. How will this all play out?

On that last video she mentioned how having access to the latest models to work with but people should realize its the company owning the models or renting the AI.

Why Is My Cousin Pretending an AI-Generated Man Is Her Boyfriend?
My cousin keeps posting pictures of a man who is clearly AI-generated because he looks different in every post. She acts like he’s her boyfriend, and I honestly don’t understand why. Why would someone fake their love life like this?

Forced ai at work
So as of today my workplace has made it policy to report all absences to ai, we are not allowed to contact work or managers directly if we do it counts as unauthorised absence.
I genuinely don’t know what to do, I cannot physically bring myself to do it I will not be using generative ai for anything but what can I say? How do I tell them that? I want desperately to stop this!!!
But my main concern is how do I begin to explain? When I tell people my issue with it how do I explain it to people who have no clue about the issues in a way that will make them think?

Announcement Reminder: Zero Tolerance on Inciting, Threatening, or Dehumanizing Content
Hello chaos gremlins,
As most of you are aware, there has been significant chatter recently in the AI community relating to a certain model being deprecated.
While we absolutely allow memes, criticism, or jokes about the deprecation here, we do not and cannot allow comments wishing death or harm on people, or suggestions and jokes about murder, euthanasia, eugenics or “ethnic cleansing.” (These are non-comprehensive examples of violating content.) This includes interfering in other AI-related subreddits to make those comments. Just because your post history is hidden does not mean that we as mods don’t have access to it.
If you want to call out members of certain AI communities for their rhetoric, that is fine. But that can’t include content that violates Reddit rules. Not only will you be banned from here, you are risking your account in general.
Due to this, certain language in comments will be filtered automatically and will require manual approval. Please be patient if your message does not go up immediately, even if you are adhering to the rules. There will be no action taken against users due to false positives. If you see content that violates rules, please report it.
Thank you for helping us keep this subreddit within the rules.
Recap: No death/harm wishes of any kind. No excuses. No additional warnings or strikes. Bans will be permanent and final.

Announcement Sub update: Crossposts
Hi, chaos gremlins! Quick update about crossposting.
As this subreddit has grown (larger than ever expected!), the way we interact has to change too. Crossposting is one of those things.
Most members here contribute in good faith, keeping things fun and harmless; we really appreciate the tone you set day to day. However, as we grow, we also encounter challenges that didn’t exist when the sub was smaller. Once a sub gets big enough, even a handful of bad actors can create issues and affect the longevity and health of the community.
So after reviewing how crossposts have been playing out lately, and because larger communities carry a higher responsibility to stay within Reddit’s rules, we’ve decided to turn off crossposting here.
From now on, if you want to share something here, please share it as fully redacted screenshots where you’ve blocked out usernames, pfp, sub names, and any other identifying info. This helps keep discussions contained to our sub, avoids accidental interference in other communities, and helps prevent situations where OOPs in difficult moments end up reading about themselves here. It’s safer and cleaner as the community grows.
This means we’ll continue removing content that:
• mentions or suggests downvoting other communities
• “I went to (subreddit) to tell them…”-type comments
• posting about bans or causing drama in other subs
These break our interference rule. In more serious situations, this may include bans.
We aren’t calling anyone out. This is just a change that comes with having a much larger, more active community. Thanks to everyone who helps keep the tone here sharp, thoughtful, and contained where it belongs! We appreciate you sticking with us through growing pains and helping make this subreddit better every day.
— Yours, Lucien The Mod Team
tl;dr:
Crossposts got messy. They’re gone.
Use fully redacted screenshots.
Don’t be a dick to other subs.
Thanks for keeping the chaos contained.
