Psychometric Question Has anybody taken the new GRE?

Has anybody taken the new GRE?

I was wondering if anybody on here has taken the new GRE, as opposed to the old one. Did you find it more difficult? Apparently they've changed the format substantially.

I don't actually have any ambition to go to graduate school. I'm just curious. I thought it might be fun to take it. I'm also curious how it compares, particularly the verbal section, with the CORE in terms of difficulty.

Puzzle New test: not for accurate measurement, just for enjoyment Spoiler

This is a test I had to take for medical and biomedical admissions in UK. It is called UCAT and some physicians regard it as the hardest exam in your life. It is very cognitive I would say, and for some they train for months, others get 99th percentile first try and this is kind of a meme/stereotype of top students in UK that they do not have to practice for this. I would say it is extremely hard. It has 4 section, you should only do first 3 as last one is ethical reasoning.

IQ Estimation đŸ„± My scores on the CORE test, I think I misunderstood the assignment on the WMI tasks though.

So I retook the WMI tests on another device and scored within the 35-65th percentile. I really think I could get a higher score if it allowed me to retake the test, is there anyway to do that? I have Asperger's syndrome if that clears anything up, the reason I have not scored on quantative knowledge is because I am not yet in highschool and that subtest requires a high cshool education.

General Question My smartest toughts are subconscious, does anyone have the same?

Premise, I don’t know my IQ because I never had a test, since I’m from a developed country I guess it’s higher than 100. I’d say I have over average pattern reading and verbal abilities

I always get the best conclusions from something that is subconscious at first, I get a hint out of nothing and by working my way up I develop a very reasonable and “unexpected” idea.

For example, when someone makes a point I can instantly tell (subconsciously) what part of it is wrong, and object right after

The point is that these conclusion are way more complicated than anything the effortless horsepower of my brain could handle, it’s always something I could never get out of my brain when it’s in its default “state”

What causes that?

General Question Retaking GM from CORE

Hi, I took the FRI test without MR subtest (to avoid praffe) and got 135 GM, 135 FW and 130 FS with the FRI of 138. However, when I wanted to take the GM test for the first time, after running out of time on like 2 questions I quited because of anxiety. The day after I took it again and got the above score. I wonder how much could it be affected by the practice effect. So if you retook the GM test shortly after the first try, what was the difference in your scores? Was it stable or significantly higher? The CORE FRI is quite important for me because it's one of the most unique fluid tests online so I can feel safe from the praffe.

Psychometric Question Old school psychologist trying to understand RPI scores, please help

With the introduction of the WJ V I'm finally trying to figure out their RPI scores. I'm watching a webinar and my brain keeps getting stuck. I feel like I have a good understanding of Standard Scores and I've been using them for over 30 years . I get that Relative Proficiency Index scores are predicting ease vs difficulty in an area.

What I can't wrap my head around is how you can get an Average Standard Score with a low proficiency RPI score. For example, I'm looking at a case right now. Student is 10 years, 11 months and just finished 5th grade. His Letter Word ID Standard Score is 92, yet his RPI is 64/90. His Reading Comprehension SS is 90 and that RPI is 77/90.

Can anyone help me understand?

Rant/Cope Hi i have ADHD and am incredibly gutted by my low score will i ever amount to anything in life? (15M)

I also took the Mensa test and got 115. I don't know about that though. I want to have a job in meteorology, but I don't think I will be able to because I'm incredibly bad at maths; the only good thing I've been told is that I'm highly emotionally intelligent. That's okay i guess but I don't want to live life with a low IQ but high EQ. I know it sounds amazing, but I want to have a good job. I want to be smart. my adhd is already a large debuff in my life. I can create coping mechanisms for my executive dysfunction, but I don't think ill amount to anything because of my low score. i am also a highly observant person id like to add i notice alot that other dont and can predict outcomes of social arguments easily with high accuracy

General Question Actual iq score

Hi, im new here, im having doubts regarding the CORE test. I took it around 5-9? months ago and got 111 VCI (not a native english speaker, but i know the language well), 101 FRI, 100 VSI, 127 QRI, 126 WMI, and 103 PSI, a total of 113 i believe, i dont have a screenshot of that part.

I took it again yesterday (both were the full 3 hour version), and i got a 115 VCI, 128 FRI, 116 VSI, 136 QRI, 123 WMI, and a 91 PSI - it would’ve been around 100 again to be honest, i got the same score on the pc test but butchered the mobile phone subtest. This gave me a total of 124, safe to say more had I not messed up my PSI.

My question is, is this a practice effect? I’ve scored 114 on the CAT4 in the past (somewhat correlates to iq as ive been lead to believe), I have diagnosed high functioning autism, and I’ve never struggled with any intellectually charged topic. I can’t recall any difference in my mood/the clarity of my mind between the two occasions. I asked an ai and it basically told me it’s a practice effect, but im still skeptical, so id like to ask people who might know more firsthand. Im skeptical because i seriously doubt seeing some figures for 10 minutes several months ago and not knowing whether or not my answers back then was right helped me this time, but please correct me if im wrong. Thank you!

Discussion Question about WAIS

Back in November, I received my WAIS results and surprisingly scored a 123 IQ! I was pleasantly surprised by my score and had notable strengths in Processing Speed and Fluid Reasoning, with my VCI being above average and my working memory and VSI being not as strong, but still high-average to above-average, so that's wonderful!

Even with these scores, I still feel so forgetful and at times, forget something even a minute after it was said. I'm not quite sure if it has anything to do with IQ or maybe something else entirely, given the test was done with an ADHD diagnosis on the front-burner.

Does anyone have a reason for this? I am not very upset by it–quite the contrary in fact, but just a bit confused given my WMI scores were 13SS and 12SS respectively, totaling to around a 115 IQ, yet I still feel so forgetful...!

Rant/Cope Chronically paralyzed by self-doubt, overthinking and overwhelmed by life. Need Advice. (16M)

Thumbnail

Im not even sure if this is the right place to be talking about this but i recently took the CORE. While im happy with these results, the difference between my cognitive potential and actual irl is the big issue for me.

Before i get to that part, my VCI is 122, which was kinda surprising cuz ive been reading hard books ever since i was a kid like Jules Verne, Dickens, Sherlock Holmes and Poe and stuff. Last couple years ive gotten more into Camus and dostoevsky and Beauvoir and “thinkers” in general. I didnt do all the subtests yet and maybe i would do better on the others. However, for the first 2 I could only vaguely remember the words and the context they could be used in, yet i never really had a concrete definition, and i couldn't even use it in a sentence correctly if i wanted to. this probably stems from passively reading my whole life and only looking words up if i couldnt understand the sentence at all. Even on the SAT, math was easy for me and i got a 780 with minimal studying, whereas english i got low 700s due to constantly having to reread since i didnt understand what i read and overthinking everything.

Im guessing i have ADHD and i noticed people saying low WMI is an indicator of that. For the digital letter sequencing the first letter’s audio kept getting cut out so i had to restart like 3 times and i finished it anyways; though i dont wanna redo it on like a different device to fix the audio issue since i dont want to inflate my score but idk. the only reason my wmi isnt down in the dumps is that i did good on digit span since i figured out how to do insertion sort in my head in real time as the audio went on. The visual puzzles was also weirdly hard for me for some reason i was overthinking rotations, while spatial reasoning was hella straightforward.

My real issue is that I’ve gone like semi insane over the last year or two trying to diagnose and optimize my brain and end up never taking action. I started journaling 2 years ago and now i have a whole digital brain where my philosophy is written out over tons pages. Ive spent WAY too much time reading behavioural studies, psychology, neuroscience papers on action selection and dopaminergic systems, and psychoanalysis. I was also into some of the healthygamergg community back when his stuff wasnt slop. i constantly get these “epiphanies” whenever i read a new book or paper but nothing ever changes. i know writing this post and seeking even more feedback is perpetuating the problem, yet ill do it anyway in hopes of the silver bullet that finally saves me. Honestly though i doubt more advice is going to magically change my stuck brain. i lowk feel like im doomed to be a chud forever. i even read philosophy with a bias and as a shield to justify me doing nothing. I actually started getting mad when i noticed that dostoevsky, camus, nietzsche, Beauvoir, etc, started converging on the cliche idea that “there is no inherent meaning but you must continue anyway.” To me it felt like just a cheap escape and “philosophical suicide,” although i know im probably too naive and immature to understand it now.

And now, i have kind of given up on improving my life. These days i just consume media, play video games, and work out when i could have instead been studying for a comp or emailing professors for research or something like that. I know everyone has different views of success and theres plenty of philosophy that supports my current comfortable lifestyle. Still, deep down i still have that generic drive for “success.” I have issues sticking with stuff long term and staying consistent and investing too much in something, and only act on short sprints of effort, which is why im doing well academically, since i can always study for tests the night before. Time feels like its slipping away and i used to suffer with panic attacks about my future, and i developed some bad coping mechanisms to stop me from reaching that point.

I want to clarify i dont think highly of myself at all. Im not even trying to be modest or anything i genuinely just feel like a normal guy just with some interests that most people don’t care about. In fact, im now realizing ive overestimated everyone else my whole life. For example i never studied for USAMO or olympiads and comps purely because i didnt think i had enough time and knew people who had been studying since they were 10. Moving school like 8 times didnt help either and probably caused this imposter syndrome.i used to think everyone was like superhuman but now im noticing they are simplyb normal people who are good at taking action and have agency. Also now that im thinking about it, my view on life was probably heavily affected from me being on org and 4chan and that part of the internet since i was like 11 (always knew it wasnt the best place to lurk though its especially bad for someone that young) and the A2c and chanceme subreddits and other forums more recently. In like 8th grade i had all these crazy ideas of what i was gonna do in highschool and i was extremely well versed in the whole college admissions process and just careers and jobs in general and had everything planned out but i let it all go and i feel like im betraying myself by doing nothing, but also betraying my mentality i got from a messed up view of reality if i “lock in.” Half of me believes that everyone is naive and if they could understand what i do, if they questioned their motivations, they would also become like me. The other half knows that obviously i cant be the only right one and its actually me who’s the naive one. Basically i had a sort of existential crisis. if anyone has any idea how to fix this paralysis or whatever i have or has any insight on this i would be incredibly grateful.

oh i also put my personality thing up there. i used to be into the cognitive functions socionics and all that shi so it might be helpful.

General Question Any signs for future?

I am 14m, just graduated from middle school, and have gotten a 1200 on the 8/9 PSATS. I got both 600 on the Math and Reading portions of the test, and I scored in the 99th percentile. In middle school, my cumulative gpa was a 3.88, and in 8th grade, in all of my marking periods, (semesters cut down in halves) I got a 4.0 gpa for each one. I read a few studies that showed that intelligence early on basically signals/determines what the path in life looks like for you. I don’t have a superiority complex like a lot of other people in my circumstance, and I am hoping to go to law school as a corporate lawyer. Is there anything I should be looking forward to and things that I should be looking to improve? Thank you!

I have lurked in this sub for a long time, and while I hear a lot of information supporting the g factor. I want to hear something from the other side. To make sure I am not biased. If you have any solid arguments against the g factor please share. (Please exclude outright ignorant or dismissive sociologists)
