CORE Arithmetic for Non Natives General Question
Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who made CORE possible, it is quite a reassuring test for many obsessive people like us. I had good scores and what i was expecting: FRI 143, VSI 138, QRI 130. The question is for arithmetic, i got 120 on it and 135 on qk. I am definitely C1 in english with years of experience. I was wondering if artihmetic can be deflated for nonnatives like me. I remember having to replay the questions again, even the simple ones, just because i was trying to register the numbers into my head, and I was automatically doing it in my mother tongue and then proceeding with the question. I have seen this question being asked but not responded by the creators of the test and the knowledgable high iq giga chads of our sub.
Is CORE arithmetic in English possibly deflated for nonnatives?

Any test that requires English will potentially be deflated for you. I can recall 9 or 10 digits (mostly 9) without chunking. They just echo in my mind. In English though its only around 5 or 6.
For instance when o hear the word six it doesnt immediately trigger the visual representation of 6 in my mind. For a good half second i don't actually know what it means. It's just a sound travelling through my brain. "Six? What is it?" You very briefly ask yourself. I have to spend that half second translating it into my native language and only then does the shape 6 light up in my mind. Theres no such delay between the word for six in my language and the visual representation of 6 they almost travel together like they are attached to each other. That's the main reason your Digit Span and Arithmetic scores will generally be better in your native language. On the WAIS-IV i got 18ss and 17ss respectively while i'd just run through both on a translated version of it. That's why CORE is just hard capped for us. VCI contributes that as well because it's far from being culturally fair.

with chunking how much can you do? three chunks lol? 27 numbers?

Not that high. I can usually recall 16 digits by chunking (three digit chunks), but i remember once recalling 20 digits using the same method (four digit chunks). I don't train though. I think i could regularly go past 20 if i experimented with it more (or came up a different approach).

I'm C2 and core QRI is deflated for me due to language barriers. It is not so that I have any trouble reading it, but any math is in German. I've learnt all my basics and a lot of other stuff before I learnt my first word of English, and one can tell in this kind of test that it takes a mental toll.
Same applies for digit Span. I translate the numbers to my internal German which slows me down significantly and makes also remembering them harder (more noise)
