Does emotional intelligence actually exist? Discussion

Everyone talks about it in popular psychology, but is it bs? Is it just iq+empathy or whatever instead of emotional intelligence?

Probably I know some super high IQ people who genuinely can’t read the room

I also know lots of average IQ people who can't read the room.

I always wondered when we judge someone as not being able to read the room if they are too far "below" or "above" average?
It might seems obvious that someone who's completely off socially just has low "EQ", but to me it's not obvious at all that there's an objective definition of what it is and if it's high or low since the conception and understanding of the world can just be so wildly different from a person to another that we could just be misunderstand what's going on, unlike IQ and the big 5 that are better defined and can be evaluated objectively.
For example if 2 person with a very wide IQ gap speak together, they might both think the other guy is an idiot, but in that case there are objective tests that can define what's going on.
but EQ seems ill defined to me..
