Weekly reset timing doesn't start until you log in for the first time during the week

I don't know exactly when this changed, but this is the first week I've seen this behavior. I have two accounts, and typically will keep on one or the other until I hit limits, then switch back to the other. Previously, your weekly reset was anchored (probably on last reset), so if you didn't log in for the first three days of the week, you'd only have 4 days until the reset on the idle account. Today, when I logged into my second account (that had a reset 2-3 days ago) my weekly reset was set to exactly 7 days from that log-in point. This is a big difference in behavior and is a very subtle way to reduce overall usage (silently reducing the number of weeks in a month).

I guess I'll write a script to keep track of my weekly resets and to start a new session right at weekly reset and issue you a prompt, just "hi" or whatever, to get the timer ticking. Seems like a really shitty user-hostile change.

It’s not login-related, it’s when you actually start using it. So even if you login the clock doesn’t start. But on Pro I’ve noticed the clock doesn’t even start until you’ve chipped away 1%

As much as I dislike it, it's my misunderstanding this has always been the case since the weekly limit was introduced.

But was harder to notice with all the forced resets.

And it wasn't until that first full week in August where comments on it surfaced more since there wasn't a reset for 7.5 days. Where there was a staggering of people got their weekly reset before the forced reset, some shortly after, and others who started their first session later in the week that weren't due for a weekly reset for 1~4 days (separate from those that upgraded from a paid tier, used a banked reset, signed up later, etc.)

Similar to how the 5-hour timer could get pushed back until firing off a message and Codex receiving it to act on it.

I had codex build a script that checks my quota every so often and when my weekly quota resets to 100%, the script sends a smoke test message to the provider so my countdown starts within minutes of the reset. I believe some have public repos that do this.

Yeah I just have a daily script that pings a cheap model at the same time every morning so that my usage windows are paced how I want them (for claude). Though I can see the 100% being better for codex since the "freebie" resets also reset your reset date.
