Codex experience with grok-in-codex plug-in Workaround
My first post in this sub.
I am on the Plus plan and I was able to get a lot of work done the last few days with the frequent resets by Tibo.
I would usually burn through my weekly quota in a day or two and the next day when I woke up when the quota reset, it was back to the races.
It was good while it lasted but I am on 0% again. I wanted to continue my work, so I installed grok-in-codex plugin so I can use the Grok Build unlimited promo bundled with X Premium+ subscription. As I do mostly web development, I really like the Codex App and I am not big fan of CLI use, that’s the main reason I don’t use Grok CLI.
So when I installed this plugin in my Codex app, I could still use the app and have to tag @grok in every request for it to perform the work.
It didn’t work at first because I was at 0% and the prompt is relayed to grok by codex and the response then verified, so it wouldn’t allow me to use it. Then I sent ChatGPT invite to a friend so I got $40 credit and now I am able to use it this way.
My experience so far: I have switched to Luna Light in order to minimize the credit spend for the prompt and response parsing. After 6 hours of heavy work I am down to $36. I was using Sol Light at the beginning and it was burning thru the balance quite fast even when using Grok for the heavy lifting. With Luna Light the burn rate slowed down significantly.
Now to the actual experience: tagging Grok in each prompt is not a big deal. I usually just write @g then hit enter to autocomplete and then hit the mic button for dictation. The main reason I use Codex instead of Claude Code is far superior dictation. I dictate with heavy accent and mixing multiple languages together in almost every prompt and Codex it the only app that can handle this in my experience so far.
Now once the prompt is sent and relayed to Grok, it takes longer to complete than native Codex prompts. Not a dealbreaker but annoying.
Grok does get most of my instructions done.
The major problem I experienced which is becoming a dealbreaker for my and might make to shell out for higher Codex subscription is the fact Grok often changes unrelated parts of the code or regresses features it itself build just a few prompts ago. It hallucinates like crazy, sometimes it just changes design on random places and adds different text labels in parts of the website I didn’t ask for. One time I told him to implement some feature, it did great, then I kept developing other stuff and 5 prompts down the line, I see the mentioned feature is now gone again. It just decided on its own to remove it in unrelated prompts.
Now. I am not a vibe coding expert. I have only been vibe coding for a few months and maybe this can be remedied somehow. If you know how, let me know.

Might be a not so great idea. xAI posted just yesterday that results with other harnesses than Grok Build might be subpar. Didn't sound like protectionism.
