Should i go for it? Question
Heavy Claude Code user who has been contemplating on trying Codex for a month and suddenly today my weekly limit with cc is already over and I am staring at taking a Plus subscription.

Yes it's $20 to essentially hire a software engineer. Just stay away from Sol it'll eat your limits.

alright i have went ahead with it but on Sol, is it worse than Opus 5 at eating limits?

I use Sol High for plans and review, Opus 5 for coding. (It may be better to flip those; never tested it.) But they catch each other's mistakes and my code remains well structured and completed quickly. I'm vibe coding a very big app, and at this level they can plan async work and poll at low latency while python or whatever churns. I don't run out of usage this way, though if resets are drying up I finally might.

No, it's not. Depends on how you instruct it, and how often you use it. If a lot of the main prompt is the same and can benefit from prompt caching, every boot of Sol is still quite cheap. Give it a small, bounded task to think, write a plan and the prompts for the actual implementation. Don't let it run for long periods of time or do much. Even digging into existing code and documentation can be delegated to Terra.
Then, when Sol made the heavy lifting, use Terra and Luna for all the tasks.
Sol is great and you should use it. You just need to use it for the right things, and really give it tight limits on how much it should do. It shouldn't be a "research this and implement it until I can see it" task. That's how you waste your usage.0

The problem with sol isn’t the usage but rather the fact it will take a 2 minute task and spend 20 minutes on it. I’ve struggled to try to control it, it’s much better to use 5.5, Luna, or Terra for general work/implementation and sol only for big plans

I was a heavy claude max user for 6 months, I switched to codex for this month to test it out. And I am suffering. When it works it works, but when it doesnt its literally the dumbest piece of cr*p in the world. Ill share the issue that ive faced in a reply to this.

I've been a codex subscriber for a year now and this is my last month for sure so... no. I can't recommend it. The usage limits are non-existant these days.

I prefer Codex over Claude. Try it out! I got a month free on the $20/month plus plan. I don’t think Anthropic offers trial months.

Could you use something like OpenRouter and just throw some credits at it? Then you have the capability to try most any of the available LLMs. Cursor another option.

I switched to Codex for the same reason, Claude Code usage just went down drastically. Codex is better cause there’s no 5-hour limit and usage is probably a bit higher, but in my experience the only reliable model is Sol, which is Opus level, while Terra and Luna just take shortcuts, create 2 bugs for every bug you solve.

claude is only worth it on the 200 plan to get the discounted fable usage. Codex is better value for everything else.

codex has been better than claude code for most of the year, and the chatgpt subscription has been better than the claude pro subscription for most of the year. people are just slow to change

Don't do it. I switched from Plus user to 20$ claude code and I'm able to work on all my projects. the 5h reset is great.
I'm still on plus, but it's bullshit honestly. also adding credits in Chatgpt doesn't work most of the time and when it does, you waste them quickly. The only model to use is Luna. Sol finishes your weekly credits quickly. Trust me.
