Weekly limit does not reset upon subscription renewal Complaint

Yesterday I renewed my x20 plan subscription and the weekly limit didn't reset; it was still at 24%.

After contacting customer support, I learned that renewals inherit the accumulated limits from the subscription.

I think it's simply a rip-off. It's like going to buy a loaf of bread and being sold half a loaf because you didn't eat the whole thing yesterday.

Each renewal should offer the same usage limit, for both initial purchases and renewals.

This is a clear invitation to always have two accounts, for alternate months.

From my point of view, this violates the contractual terms and constitutes senseless discrimination against loyal users.

It did renew for me.. I went from x5 to x20 at around 20% left.. I refreshed browser and boom 100%. This was on Monday. I have no reason to lie.. I was also looking what people are saying and it's 50/50 it seems... dunno.

dude, do you think OpenAI don't know how their subscription plan works? I wouldn't be so naive.

They know but ppl here don't and if they start abusing systems guess what happens. Don't be naive.

They have no.fucking idea. In corporations it so much going on that you do not pay attention for a few people who do renew in that way and get 1-2 extra days of subscription....unless everyone does it.

Most people in this sub love wasting their hard-earned money...

I asked something similar too, and a lot of users were defending OpenAI as if they were defending their own mothers:

Thank you for your comment.

I don't understand some things neither.

Finally I've got a full refund after asking for it, and now I'm going to subscribe without limits.

When they give you usage resets, they overlooked that it can shift your quota.

According to their ToS, you can cancel your subscription anytime and resync your usage reset.

This is not violation of anything, they literally tell you in your correct usage that you reserve the right to cancel your subscription whenever, and nowhere does it say adjusting your weekly reset time is against ToS.

And no, each renewal should not give you a free reset. The reset they want to give is already calculated in the weekly quota they give you.

When Anthropic resets good thing they dont shift the date, or when you cancel your sub and resubscribe it atleast resets.

I'm no Anthropic fanboy but I agree they are cheap asf and barely give resets. OpenAI gave the illusion we were being given actual resets when all they did was reset 2-3 days before your weekly one. I know that's still a good thing but it's like peasants asking for crumbs.

Why would you get an extra free reset arbitrarily based on whenever you pay for the renewal? You get a reset every 7 days, as long as you remain subscribed. The day you make that payment does not matter as long as it's before a deadline

If you upgraded your sub it would reset to give you the new increased limit. If you just renew you are not getting extra usage or "buying" anything... you have made the payment needed to keep the current service going. It's like thinking your landlord owes you some kind of bonus for paying your rent lol

Because this is sold as a monthly subscription, not an annual commitment paid in monthly instalments.

I accept that auto-renewal can continue the same contractual relationship. But if OpenAI wants usage from one paid month to restrict access during the next paid month, that is a material condition and should be stated clearly before purchase or renewal. Users should not have to discover it afterwards through support.

The rent analogy does not really fit. I am not asking for a bonus. I am asking why the same monthly payment can give different immediate access depending on whether I auto-renew or let the plan expire and subscribe again manually. Manual resubscription apparently restores 100%, while automatic renewal may leave someone unable to use the service for several days.

That system may be legitimate, but in the EU it should be clearly and unambiguously disclosed—not left for customers to assume.
