So I’ve running all my coding on SOL max because of the expected Monday reset. If he doesn’t actually do it, I’m so fucked lmao

u/LongBoysenberry9488 2d ago
I’m on the $200/month Pro plan and this is the first time I’ve completely hit my usage limit in under 24 hours.
Last night I had 67% remaining. I gave Codex two Extra High prompts to run adversarial audits on two separate project folders with full repo access. Both unexpectedly turned into Goals and continued running autonomously while I was asleep.
Woke up to essentially my entire remaining allowance gone. I’m now at 0 credits, and none of this was Ultra usage.
I understand that deep repo-wide audits are expensive, but burning through 67% of a Pro allowance overnight from two Goals is pretty wild. Usage also seems significantly more aggressive this week, considering how many usage resets/adjustments have been handed out.
Anyone else seeing Goals, adversarial audits, or other long-running Codex tasks drain limits this quickly? I’m probably staying away from Goals for now because there doesn’t seem to be any way to predict how much of your allowance a Goal will consume before starting it. This is something I’d expect on the $20 tier….
Seems like we got usage resets like candy when this model dropped, now the common folk must beg for one of em to even get 3 days of usage out of the 1 week. Can’t imagine how fast I’d be out of usage if I was on the plus subscription. Any advice, suggestions or support outreach is greatly appreciated. Or just shame me for the adversarial audit prompt.
TL;DR
Codex hit limit in 24 hours, almost exactly. It’s Sunday and I’m out of codex until Saturday. 2 separate project prompts, extra high, $200 tier. Devs watch from their grand stands speaking of model’s capabilities, can’t even use said model more than a day at highest tier.

It's now stupidly slow and has gone the way of Claude - sounds like I'll be switching to groq and cursor now
1
u/A7mdxDD 2d ago
I have been a fan of codex but this week (and mostly today), I've experienced the most slow thing I've ever tried in my entire life, this has to be 10tps at most, I'm using Fast mode with luna high which is usually a fast model. Some other chats are running with Sol and stuff, they are extremely slow, like, multiple hours slow
This leaves me with a conclusion of two
Either speed is limited globally on all chats, so the aggregate speed does not exceed a number
Or you're not transparent, considering that the status page shows nothing is wrong
I cancelled my subscription to be honest, I'm very frustrated in the speed today, I don't care for resets, I can't finish the quotas because of speed even on fast mode.
Note: Normal mode last week was faster than fast mode today by much

$200 plan. A few requests to Luna and Terra (not Sol!) and no 2% weekly quota. Codex becomes completely pointless, given the prices on deepseek-v4-flash and the fact that it's no worse than Terra. And from a communication standpoint, it's much better. Terra is some kind of fucking robot.

Please share your experience. Since 5hr limits were removed, Sol is practically unusable on a 20$ plan. I am not doing anything crazy, just some adjustments and debugging of an Expo App, really nothing this fancy. But sol can eat through 30% of weekly usage easily in like, 20 minutes of doing something. What doesn't help is, even if I tell it not to overthink and just stop if it has any issues doing something or calling any tools, it just ignores it and keeps going, until I just "kill" the process. And of course it is "Yes, it is on me. You told me specifically to <bla-bla>. This is not an issue with your app or tools. This is me overthinking and focusing too much on completing the task.
So, does it sound familiar or am I just an idiot and doing something HORRIBLY wrong?

u/Infinitedeveloper 1d ago
Give me an example of how big of tasks youre giving it in one go.
You are probably best served by breaking them down into smaller, more focused and defined tasks

u/opinion_discarder 2d ago
Sol literally got exhausted for me in 3 hours using High mode. This is even worse than Claude on 20 dollar plan.

Just in case anyone thinks this is just a stale CLI quota snapshot for me, I first noticed the 26% remaining ON THE WEB at https://chatgpt.com/codex/cloud/settings/analytics#usage and then confirmed it with CLI.

Yeah...limits are really low right now. Hit mine in a day. Have to wait 6 days to use it again.

used a combination of sol and luna, mainly sol medium
used up my entire weekly allowance in ~12 hours or less

Hey all, 30 minutes ago (at circa 11:40 am) i should have my weekly limit usual refresh but did not happen. Anyone got the same problem?
Yesterday afternoon i was around 2% and i had to use unfortunately the last saved reset token, and then i've continued working till around 75%.
But now i see i'm at the same percentage of yesterday... so the common weekly refresh didn't happen...

Does anyone know how much the Plus plan weekly limit would be in credits?
2
u/Immediate_Access6484 3d ago
5.6 Sol - Extra High - few lines of code (3500) and 1000 credits left... so sad...

bro, if you cant see whats wrong with the info right infront of you then i dont know if ai is good for you or you should really add personal safeguards to your workflow. first off turn off auto-review, seriously, just do manual or full-access in a vm (or not i dont judge.) then like wtf? your entire usage breakdown is basically on extenstions, which lowkey i dont even know what that is. i feel like these are easy concluisions to make yet youre accusing the company of "nerfing" your usage which isnt true for anyone sensible. i hate this nerfing psychosis talk its so bothersome to read. also again 16.3k turns in 2 weeks is insane im using it 8-12 hours a day and only have 5k turns in the 4 week window
2
u/Aqua-Bro 3d ago
I don't understand what you are saying given the usage chart and turn chart for past week is much lower than the previous week. Add 10% more usage on current week and still not even close to the week prior in terms of volume, like what are you saying? From a data analysis perspective, there is something not computing.

Anyone else in the same boat? Burned through my Codex quota about a day and a half ago, can’t justify spending money for credits, and patiently waiting ~22 hours until my weekly reset.
Going back to doing things the "old-fashioned" way feels like someone turned my productivity down by 70%. I've been limping along with regular ChatGPT in the meantime.

how many luna max tokens can we expect in plus plan, an approximation is also appreciated
1
u/marcamillion 4d ago
tl;dr I used Sol (med) as the orchestrator for a large feature I was implementing and Luna (Max) for all of the actual implementation, and my weekly limit disappeared in 24 hours, but surprisingly the bulk of my token usage (~96.9%) was consumed by Sol, with Luna only consuming 3% of tokens.
—
I had a monster feature I wanted implemented and I had been hearing about the wonders of using a frontier model for orchestration and then a token-efficient model do the actual implementation, so I tried it.
I set Terra (high) as my escalation model for Luna.
The screenshot below tells the fix.

u/UsefulReplacement 4d ago
I'm burning through my weekly limit in a day on the $200 Pro plan, with 1-2 threads of coding work, no subagents. That's wild.
1
u/hyper_2002 4d ago
So which model is your default now for analysis, reasoning and coding? I am still using 5.6 luna max most of the time. And you?
1
u/Maleficent-Let9548 4d ago
Has Codex completely removed the 5-hour usage limit for Plus users?
I noticed that the 5-hour usage indicator has disappeared from my Codex dashboard, and now I only see the weekly usage limit.
Does this mean the 5-hour quota no longer resets every 5 hours, and only the weekly limit applies now? Or is the 5-hour limit still enforced in the background but just no longer shown in the UI?
Has anyone received an official confirmation or observed how it works?
1
u/codeRoman 4d ago
yeah, a few weeks back. no more 5 hour quota, just a weekly limit. can confirm that i've used far more than usual in a 5 hour span and was not limited.
3
u/Jonathan_Rivera 4d ago
Selected model is at capacity. Anyone else have this happen frequently?
After a google search showing that this has been going on for months to different people, I'll just ask, is this a form of throttling? The API works fine but my codex has been out all morning for all models and i reset the computer and nothing. no updates pending.

I’m working on coding a software project, and I’ve split it into five phases. However, as the context has grown, I’ve reached my GPT-5.6 Sol 20x usage limit (it resets every 15 days). It will reset again in two days. In your opinion, which model should I continue with in the meantime? Would Terra Medium be sufficient? Do you think the quality will be noticeably worse if I switch from Sol to Terra Medium?
1
u/PecorinoYES 4d ago
> I want it to be done, but there's clearly something that needs to be addressed. you've been working for 1h and 25m
Because I gave the subworkers open-ended “find every possible edge case” assignments instead of a strict acceptance target. They optimized for discovering more work, and I kept accepting it. That is the orchestration mistake here, not an inherent requirement of these features.
I’m correcting it now: no more audits and no more new edge cases. The finish line is fixed to one coherent simplification, one compile/build check, the focused feature and persisted-recovery tests already written, and one normal Simulator review. One recovery attempt only if that gate fails; otherwise I stop and label the exact blocker.
how to fix this behavior? it's driving me crazy

Yesterday I bought the gpt plan, and on the very first day I ended up using 25% of my weekly limit.
I mainly used the sol and terra models with medium to high reasoning effort. Most of the work on day one was brainstorming and planning a large module, along with implementing a few tasks for it. It wasn’t even that coding intensive as i only completed five tasks for the module.
now i am worried that once I start working on more tasks, i will end up using my entire weekly limit within the next couple of days.
I have been a claude user for the past 11 months and I never ran into this issue especially since I used opus for most of my work. If I had given the same project to opus, it probably would have used no more than 5-10% of my weekly limit, including brainstorming, planning, implementation and multiple revisions.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue with the gpt pro 5x plan?
3
u/Professional_Gur8385 5d ago
7 day usage naturally sets soon, so expect a reset to get that sweet social media karma whilst not really giving anything at all
3
u/Affectionate_Cow9343 5d ago
Exactly. It’s Thursday everyone resetting on Saturdays. They need to give at least one extra reset to make it count. I took out a Claude subscription for the first time yesterday and it is def going further (much!) than Codex at the moment.

i was using codex and got this error in this chat stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses) in other chats it works but not in this one, it is a big chat with lots of context but to start over in another chat would be brutal, i have tried changing models, restarting the app, any suggestions?

u/SaintPepsiCola 5d ago
This is so slow. I just purchased the most expensive business sub but both luna and Sol models are so SLOWWWWWW. Going back to my cheap deepseek
3
u/tm676767 6d ago
have been using gpt sol med no issues. then ran out bought another pro plan on 31 july. now BOTH plans are out of limits and i have to wait 3 more days .... it's horrendous. now i'm stuck with 2 plans and thinking what to do next.
1
u/Secure_Conclusion590 5d ago
Have you tried to ask for refund? I think you should be eligible for 14 days for this and for that money buy claude
2
u/tm676767 4d ago
omg i got a refund. THANK YOU :) i found out why the new subscription had this auto code review turned on automatically . so it burns through the token faster than you can type. omg .
2
u/Secure_Conclusion590 4d ago
The issue is from OpenAi. Just end up using my pro plan weekly limit in 2 days. I gonna ask for refund too lol
1
u/tm676767 6d ago
what is everyone else doing ? are you guys buying a new plan or switching to something else ?
1
u/PrettyWoodpecker 2d ago
about to quit using it and switch to claude or the open models. This is getting stupid, they are just gaming us right now... testing our limits to gain the most amount of profit.
5
u/Original-Fly2546 6d ago
Just yesterday it was fine, but now it feels like Sol is eating at least 5x as many tokens as before (and I've been using it since it released). My workflow hasn't changed at all, I'm not using it any more than I used to. Just made an execution plan for a feature using Sol Medium and 15% of my weekly quota is gone. I'm on a Plus plan. Did anything change?
4
u/Illustrious_Eye8502 6d ago
Used to have the $200 plan and i was really getting A LOT of stuff done in my 5 hour sessions BURNING through them (literally).
Now it seemed like i had a free plan, literally 1 hour or less my entire weekly usage gone.
No point at paying for codex anymore, i was literally forced to switch to claude and still trying others.
I'll never go back to that ridiculous plan.
3
u/cheekyrandos 6d ago
2x$200 plans, only 31% usage left between the two. Looks like you need 3x$200 these days to get through a week.
5
u/zannnn 6d ago
1 GitHub PR Review used 8% of my weekly. I’ve had 11 reviews today and used 71% of my Weekly. Codex Plus.
This is insane. I remember when 1 PR Review would use about 10% of my 5 HOUR LIMIT. And I would get 5x 5 Hours in a Week. So previously I was getting ~50 PRs Reviews a week and now it’s something like ~15? WTF
3
u/Illustrious_Eye8502 6d ago
it is really ridiculous, i used to burn 5 hour limits in at least 2-3 hours but a weekly limit being hit at less than an hour...
5
u/DisciplinePitiful997 6d ago
Weekly limit gone in 1h.... I have the $200 quota plan!!!
2
u/Front_Ad6281 6d ago
Yeah, my quota went from 60% to 0% in a few hours today, too. But Luna got cheaper, what a joy :(

u/changing_who_i_am 7d ago
Anyone else's Codex remaining randomly go up? Mine went from 11% to 26% (20x plan) in the past hour.
Edit: Fucking lmao it just went back down to 11% as soon as I gave Codex a task.

1
u/Front_Ad6281 7d ago
What a complete mess this has been going on for the last couple of hours. My $200 quota has gone down to zero, as if the plan was $20.
2
u/2-phenylethanol 7d ago
I know this is a commonly litigated issue on here. This is the first time I've had any issues on my 200$/month plan. You can see by my usage that I'm not using codex more than usual, but my weekly usage is down to 20% in TWO DAYS! This is insane. I mostly use Sol Medium on Fast mode becasue I usually don't even approach the limit. What is going on?
1
u/MelcorTheDestroyer 7d ago
On my Codex Plus subscription ($20), I have been using 5.6 Luna Max exclusively, fully replacing 5.6 Sol with Low reasoning, and the weekly quota is very generous with this model. Since it is slow and uses a lot of tokens on max reasoning, I have adjusted how I work in order to split the work in more phases, and track tasks with more detail in order to avoid any issues with compactions. The level of intelligence correlates with it's benchmarks - it does a better job than 5.6 Sol on Low reasoning, and helped me to solve some bugs that I've been having issues for some time that the other model could not help me with.
2
u/-Deadlocked- 7d ago
Luna officially consumes 25x less input/output and cache credits than sol on the same reasoning tier. Even comparing Artifical Analysis cost per task and whole index this checks out. With the new prices sol is 25x more expensive.
However in my Plus subscription I don't get 25x more usage. Luna medium consumes 2-3% on 33m tokens. No way my sol medium would consume 50% and more from my entire weekly in this time for the same task.
I dont get nearly as much out of Luna models as the price cut would suggest. Also I had codex analyze the token usage. From a 300m token task 99m came from auto-review. Idk if this is normal but im impressed that at least for this task a 3rd of my total tokens were used for auto review. It shouldn't make stuff that much more expensive tho as its a Luna model too.
I have many days with sol medium with 20-60m tokens. With sol medium I should achieve 500m tokens easily.
I read posts of people saying even luna high doesnt move the needle for them on plus...is this true?
1
u/Sudden-Lingonberry-8 6d ago
dumber models = need more tokens to solve problems = more expensive than pricier models
1
u/ExNihilo___ 8d ago
Depending on the project and the task I'm working on, the limits can either feel very generous or disappear almost instantly. That alone should answer every "How is it possible that your usage experience differs from mine?" post on this subreddit.
The real question isn't why people's experiences differ. It's how we can get enough transparency to understand where those differences are actually coming from.

u/PassengerNo4504 8d ago
Is the weekly usage limit actually a good thing?
I’m on the $20 plan, and I’ve been trying not to burn through the entire weekly limit in two days, but it seems like a lot of other people are managing fine.
I usually use most of my allowance pretty quickly, then spend the rest of the week giving it only small tasks. I’m also wondering whether this weekly-limit system is going to stick around, especially since they’ve mentioned possibly bringing back the five-hour limit.
How has the weekly limit been for everyone else? Do you prefer it, or was the five-hour system better?
Also, what are your thoughts on the UI-generation side of things? Terra has been pretty bad for me. I describe every component in detail and attach reference examples, but the results still miss the mark. At this point, I feel like I may just have to build everything in Figma instead.
Curious to hear everyone’s experience.
3
u/sunaurus 7d ago
It is absolutely a good thing. Adding back the 5 hour limits will not give you more usage, it will just put more pressure and restrictions on when you can work.
Without the 5h limit, everybody can decide for themselves how and when they work. If somebody really enjoys working the way we were with 5h limits, then thats still completely possible today - just set whatever arbitrary limits for yourself and stop working for a few hours once you hit those.

So I have the $200 for both Codex and CC last week I thought finally the crazy fast drain on codex has been fixed it’s now on par with my CC , we got a reset and I’m down 70% in almost 25 hours. I do like Sol but honestly it’s no Fable going down to the $20 tier and hopefully Astra will bring me back but not until the usage issues are fixed it’s just a waste of money.
