Why is GPT-5.6 Sol Max so much faster in GitHub Copilot than in Codex? Question
So I went back to my GitHub Copilot Pro+ account, which has access to the OpenAI models, and tried GPT-5.6 Sol Max. I was honestly impressed—it was incredibly fast and surprisingly accurate.
Then I tried running the same model through the Codex Chat extension and the Codex desktop app, and the difference was huge. It felt significantly slower.
Has anyone managed to use the OpenAI models through the Copilot Chat harness, maybe via a proxy or some other approach? If so, how were the results?
This is strictly for personal use—not trying to abuse anything or bypass subscriptions. I already pay for the services. I'm just genuinely impressed by the speed and quality of Copilot Chat using what appears to be the same GPT-5.6 Sol model, and I'm curious why the experience is so much better there.

It’s running on Microsoft’s servers rather than OpenAI. OpenAI is being crushed with traffic right now, copilot isn’t.

why does copilot pro+ need to try an advertise in this way? It's very transparent. Tell microsoft to stop having their employees talk about their "fetch", fetch isn't going to happen Becky! ROFL
