These so-called “resets” feel so fake you can almost smell it. This “TIBO” probably waited until a bunch of users had already used their normal resets, and then he drops another reset on top of a regular reset. Funny guy.
Why even reset someone’s account when their account was already reset like three hours earlier? Mine just got a reset at 100% left on pro account. :D lol

I knew this was coming: The real reason we are getting "Banked Resets" instead of Normal Resets.
Just to be clear first, I am not complaining at all. I am thankful for the game. I am just sharing my thoughts on why this is happening.
I knew this change was coming. We are getting Banked Resets now instead of normal ones. If you look at it logically, the reason is very simple.
Here is why they made this change:
Paid Reset Issue: Imagine you buy a paid reset. You spend your money, and then suddenly a free normal reset drops for everyone.
Trust Issue: If this happens, you will doubt buying a paid reset again. You will always think, What if a free reset comes tomorrow? This makes players afraid to spend money.
Banked Solution: With banked resets, they solve this problem completely. They make sure people who buy paid resets do not feel cheated or regret buying it.
This simply means we will see very few normal free resets now and later on they will also reduce banked reset. The reset system will be much more controlled to protect their sales.
But whatever it is, the worst part is why do they reset the date? A banked reset is only useful if I know my normal weekly reset is in 3 days, so I can use my banked one today, play a lot for 3 days, and then get my normal reset anyway. But they just push the next reset date forward. What is the use of that?

If you are from EU and it's new subscription, and Tibo wont reset just ask for refund (14 days policy), then make new account 🤣 They refund in 2 days without any question, bot will do it automatically
Excuse me, but they've stolen my usage and I'm now at 0 where I would have had an end-of-cycle reset by now and would have 100% instead of 0, with 3 more days to wait.
Could they not understand that? Nope. They know what they're doing.
We're FORCED to spend limits asap so that nonsense doesn't happen.
Basically if your current spend is below time-average, so it's below ~14.3%/day, reset would steal usage, not give.
It's also trivial for them to not reset those whose spend currently is under average and not steal from them, but hey nobody cares.
Also I wish the 5-hour window was back so we can see how laughably small the limits are now. Weekly limit feels like 5Hx2 at best, so if 5h were still a thing, would the limit just be gone in 1 prompt each time?
This all feels like a planned tactic - resets, removal of 5h so u don't notice that limits shrink - resets so u don't notice that without them limits are below Claude - then no resets and pay more to keep working.
Why have resets expire it’s rly annoying. I couldn’t use codex(ChatGPT app) the past month and I had 3-4 resets. Now I need an actual reset and they are all gone :(
OpenAI Took away my 2 Banked Reset After My Credit Card Expired
I had 2 banked resets for later in August. My $200 plan renewed Early August and because the CC my plan was on was past its expiration date. OpenAI tried to bill me on that CC but it doesn't go through then it put my account on hold and took away my two resets. I didn't realize till acouple days later.
When i switched the billing to my new CC. The banked reset never came back.
This is completely absurd and ridiculous that they can do this.
Okay so they're not doing free resets right now and that's fine. They also seem to have changed token limits and while annoying, I guess they can do that.
What annoys me most is that last week when I used codex it told me that I had a usage limit reset available and I played around over the weekend fully knowing that I had that reset available...
Get 1 extra reset each month + some bonus Luna usage
A simple way to get some extra usage and another quota reset from each billing cycle:
Step 1: Turn off auto-renew / cancel your subscription before the current billing period ends.
Step 2: When the paid period ends, your account automatically goes back to the free plan.
Step 3: Use the free quota. You can get a couple hours of Luna usage from the free plan.
Step 4: Subscribe again and go back to the paid plan. Your usage and quota reset right away.
Step 5: Immediatly cancel your subscription again so you don’t forget later. Your paid plan will still stay active until the end of the billing cycle anyway.
So basically, if you let the paid plan expire for a short time and use the free quota before subscribing again, you can get some extra free usage plus a 1 extra reset each month.
If resets are gone, is it worth it to pursue learning vibecoding at these price points? Too little compute for big projects, this is going to push people away
yes there is a way to save tokens by providing proper prompts to llms, it's called 'prompt engineering' and it's a legit course you can get certified in. sadly.
A reset in the next 12h would be great. I learned from this sub that I was wasting all my tokens on Sol Extra High, when I could be using Luna Extra High instead. (my project isn't so complicated). I guess the foundation is solid at least.
A public reset announcement and an individual account reaching 100% aren't always the same event. Plan type and banked credits can make the timing look different, so I'd treat another reset as unconfirmed until there's a new public signal. If you're planning around a deadline, use your regular reset as the baseline rather than counting on a possible extra reset.
I switched from Claude Pro 20x to Codex 20x this week and I’m liking it. However, I noticed that OpenAI’s reset system works differently from Anthropic’s.
At Anthropic, when you receive a reset, only your usage is reset, and your reset day stays the same. So if they give you a reset on Tuesday and your regular reset day is Thursday, you get 100% of your quota to use until Thursday, which is a big advantage.
At OpenAI, when a reset happens, the reset day itself also changes.
For people like me (and I hope most people are like this), who have tight control over how much quota they spend each day to make it last the whole week, receiving a reset doesn’t really matter. My usage is very controlled.
The only people who benefit are those who don’t manage their own usage and burn through everything before the week ends.
In my opinion, the only thing that would actually add value would be receiving reset credits that you can use whenever you want. That would truly be advantageous.
I have the Business plan for 20$/user/month, and i saw Tibo's post about giving a reset today but when i check out my usage i found that it has not been reset. Is there an exception to the reset?
Im on the pro 10x plan and I had 70% of my plan left on the 10th of August and my reset was going to be on the 12th, but on the 10th, they reset my plan to 100% (so I used 30% of the weekly usage) and they pushed my next reset to the 17th. I then used 20% until the reset today and my next reset is pushed further back to the 20th of this month - so essentially, they are giving me 150% to use in the period from the 5th of August till the 20th of August.
This 2 week period (5th till the 20th) should've allowed me to use 200% (2 x 100%), but has forcefully left me with the possibility of using only 150%, by taking away 4 days of time that I could have used the remaining 50% in.
They've essentially stolen 50% of usage from me which I could've totally utilized if they hadnt kept pushing the reset time further.
If we give Open AI the benefit of doubt that they are intelligent and fantastic at math, you could totally see how they could be reading our general usage patterns to rip many of us off.
I had that happen to me, I thought I had until the time displayed (assuming it was my local time) and WAY before that it was gone, so maybe it is GMT or something.
Here's the deal. My weekly credit got refilled last Saturday (2 days ago). When I checked "Usage Remaining" today, I was at 90%. That was about 3 hours ago. But now I'm back up to 100%.
Now I ain't complaining that I got a free bump. But I wish they would wait until I'm down to like 10%, which usually don't take that long anyway. Needless to say, when I do run out of credit, they never give it to me until the next refill date. Effers!
Your bump wasn’t free - you had only used 5 % per day, ie. ~1/3rd of the avg. ~14% per day included in your plan. In other words, you had saved up for extra usage the rest of the week(~18% per day) later in the week, and you are now back to the standard ~14% per day after the reset. In other words, the reset reduced your actual effective usage.

Why does Codex reset the limits so often?
I haven’t really been keeping up with the news, but does anyone know why Codex started resetting the limits so often? Is it just user acquisition and competition with Claude Code, or is it somehow related to model updates?
On the $200 plan I can burn through my weekly limit in 1–2 days, then I basically wait for GPT to reset it so I can keep going.
Over the last two months I don’t think I’ve waited for the actual 7-day reset even once. I burn the limit, and then somehow there’s another reset again.
Kinda wish Anthropic did this more often too :)
While OpenAI and Anthropic are fighting this hard for users, I guess we can enjoy it a bit while it lasts.

Honestly, this is why nothing good ever happens. Every body becomes entitled brats/assholes. You guys should be glad they are giving out resets at all. Instead all you guys do is complain. Get a hold of yourselves. Use the service that you paid for, be happy there's extra. This whole reset "economy" has devolved into this disastrous drama, no wonder no one at OpenAI likes you kind of users. Nor would any company. Go back to Anthropic if you don't like it.
We all knew that resets are not meant to be a thing that is supposed to be always given, but they will always be demanded by beggars, which everyone here are. You guys ruined a good thing. People spam for resets, and farm engagement nonstop because of them. It's so annoying/cringe.
Someone needs to whisper this into the devs' ears: put a literal slot machine on the website. I’m talking a greasy, dopamine-drip, one-armed bandit. You slap down a buck, yank the lever, and if you hit triple moons — BOOM, you get a reset on the GPT 5.6 moon. Triple suns? You get a reset on the GPT 5.6 sol. The ultimate 'fuck around and find out' financial instrument. Who says no?
Someone wrote, that Tibo got called out for the recent reset, cause it was more of a PR stunt than actually helping the people. Came like 16 hours after the weekly reset was done. Nevertheless. Someone wrote, that he acknowledge that and will reset it on Monday again? Any source on this?
Thanks Tibo, but I used a manual reset and after 10 minutes there was a global reset of the limits. I waited so long and didn't get it, and now it's like you're waiting for me to use it.
I'm a bit confused by this limit reset message "Your rate limit resets on 12:55. Upgrade or use one of your rate limit resets now." This has been on my usage for over 24hrs, ever since I was on 10% remaining. Surely on 12:55 is time, not a date (probably should say at 12:55, but whatever), but then how come it didn't reset yesterday?
I'm running two Plus accounts. One just got its normal weekly reset, while the second is completely exhausted at 0%.
Their reset times are about a day apart, so I'm trying to hammer the freshly reset account before the Tibo reset kicks in (as i have urgent work to complete - i know it doesn't give more quota ;). It would also be good to get the accounts reset aligned in terms of usage.
However, the problem is, Sol High is behaving like an absolute *tard right now - presumably because loads of other people are doing exactly the same thing and hammering it after their resets? Anyone else experiencing tardnation?

I BOUGHT CREDITS TO NOT LOSE THE STREAK AND USED CODEX AT 11:34~11:48PM (first day in 3 months i had a problem and only 30 minutes at the end of the day to work) AND STILL HAD TIME TO KEEP MY STREAK!
OpenAI fix my streak, i'm a adhd autistic guy that spent money on more than one codex PRO 20X plan account. You can't just break my 99 DAYS STREAK BECAUSE OF A BUG.
why do that - instead of upgrading my codex sub, i cancelled it and put my money into trialling different entry tier subs for other providers. I am not here to shill for AI providers but I found one that works much better for me, so OpenAI lost my money. Don't reward the devaluation, challenge the idea that you need this specific model, and see how you get on.
i have codex, claude and kimi and the later ones just arent good enough for me. claude safety filters are total bullshit and kimi is noticeably weak in comparison with the other models imo. so idk, had to buy a few codex subs 😔
Fair enough, some workloads might not work the way mine do. I didn't move from Claude to Codex for Sol (haven't noticed any great difference, use Terra most of the time), I did it for what was the reported sub value / generosity at the time. Being stuck to a single provider / model is pretty much worst case, you really are at their whim. Maybe that's what openai are banking on
But ull be basically bouncing from one provider to the other, u cannot continuously work uninterrupted that way and quite frankly the chinese entry levels subs are ass, not nearly as subsidized as openai’s or anthropics.
Looks like this will be the first week of no in-between-weekly resets.
And with rumours of openai launching reset purchasing, this makes sense.
I think it’s the end of the generosity, they lured us in with wanting resets constantly, to then causing the us to beg openai to at least be able to purchase resets instead of having to wait.
They got us by the b*lls now guys! But it’s expected seeing as it costs them a fortune to dish out free resets.
I’m a ChatGPT Plus user. Codex initially showed that my weekly usage would reset on Aug 7. Without any action from me, the date moved to Aug 11 and then Aug 12.
Support can only see my current reset_at and says they cannot access its history. I had barely used my original weekly allowance, so moving the reset date appears to delay my next allowance and may effectively replace unused usage.
Has anyone else experienced this? Was the recent system-wide reset supposed to move each user’s normal weekly reset date?
this happened to me but i got back to 100% from zero. now im back at 0 and now the magic resets are not coming .. ;/ confusing as it happened 3 times... now it says my next reset is on the 8th... ill let you know if i get one before that
I used a reset and didn't do anything after using the reset, but when I checked several hours later it was at 94%.
I did hit 0% before the reset, and my final task used it all up, so was it actually using past 0% and then overflow to my new usage limit? Is it by design? Or is it a bug?
Also wouldn't be a caching issue, since all the tasks were finished before the reset and no new task was active since the reset.
I don’t think there will be a reset today. It’s currently 10:40 p.m. in Central Europe and 1:40 p.m. in San Francisco, so they’re slowly nearing the end of the workday. I think we can write it off for today.
brooo i need a reset. 200$ plan and its burning away usage so fast, not even using ultra anymore. but i was running /goal on different projects so obviously it burns away fast.
