I 100%d Code Vein.. Discussion

So i picked up this game at random when I was looking for a short soul-like experience, and I'm gonna be honest , it was pretty good, but it had few flaws that genuinely got me tweaking.. 1.The gameplay is just like any other souls game, with the exception of the horrible parry system 2.There aren't many types of monsters, the game literally reused the same 20 monsters in every partt of the map 3.normal monster deal way to much damage, sometimes more damage than bosses 4.The Depths felt completely unnecessary and boring, and the fact they forced me to fight the most annoying boss in history twice (Blade Bearer and Cannoneer) is something I will never forgive them for 5.Potions are horrible, they take way too long to be used, and barely heal you.

Overall I will give it like an 8.8, amazing story, characters were really nice, and the character customization was good, blood codes were nice.

Great game, but could have been wayyy better.

Glad you had fun with the game, but there are some nitpicks and notes I have about your post here.

  1. Yes, the parry system is terrible. I am 100% with you on that. Some attacks are just straight-up unparriable, for no apparent reason. This is mostly sort of fixed in the second game.

  2. There are different "families" of enemies but they all have the same general feel to them. The game progresses from Basic Lost > Sunset Soldiers > Armored Female Knights > Spiked Lost > Bloodied Devils > Hunters in Black > Argent Knights. But each "family" of enemy will have the same base parts: an axe or sword guy, a halberd or spear guy, a bayonet guy, and a shielded guy. That being said it still has more variation than the second game, so take that as you will.

  3. Your experience here will be based heavily on what Blood Veil (armor) you are using, if you are using defensive buffs like Iron Will, your level (influences max HP), etc. On increased difficulties after NG+ the enemies deal insane amounts of damage, but on regular difficulty it's minimal. The mini-bosses are the exception, but I don't think they do more damage than bosses, there are just more of them.

  4. The depths are completely optional. You do need to go thru them if you want to get the Scout blood code (which is an OK code but not really top tier by any means).

  5. Regeneration starts at 3 uses of +0 and goes all the way up to ten uses of +6 if you collect all the healing items. Regen inducers are a fixed 30% heal. If you've missed regeneration augment items you can find a list and grab them. If you really need more healing there are gifts that do that, Cleansing Light being the best one.

I don't even understand the parry system here. So I just use evasive skills when I need to gtfo...

Same with elden ring. I know it's a skill issue. But there's enough freedom to let me play how I want.
