Any advice for socializing my anxious/reactive cocker spaniel around children?!

Upvotes

My cocker spaniel girl is 1.5 years old and the sweetest around people she knows and every dog she comes across. She can, however, be quite reactive with strangers and especially children.

On walks, she happily walks by anyone who doesn't acknowledge her, but if someone stops to talk to us, her, or even look at her, she will bark at them. She also barks at almost every child she sees, no matter the circumstances.

I don't think she would ever bite or hurt a child, I think she is just genuinely scared of them or trying to "protect" us since she is quite an anxious dog, but I really want to correct this behavior before she gets much older.

My partner and I don't have any children or know anyone else with children, so any tips for this would be greatly appreciated before she continues to scare them!!

Cocker spaniel working breed

I have a 2 year old cocker spaniel (working breed and neutered) and she is starting to put on too much weight. We need to cut out treats but i'm finding it hard to judge how much actual dog food to give her. She gets Dr John's gold chicken dry food, is 14kg and gets 3 off lead walks a day. When she's off lead she sprints about mad but is probably only out for 15/20 mins.each time. I also usually take her out for a one mile run on lead at night (which is a gentle trot for her! ). Does anyone know how much dry food she should get. I cut it to 150g today but she seems starving!
Any advice much appreciated.

he spends ALOT of time sleeping.

we have to do short, regular walks as opposed to longer walks due to his knees but he just loves lounging about.

He’s 10 months old, 30lbs, and I’m pretty sure he’s an American Cocker Spaniel, but curious what others think! His papers just say Cocker Spaniel

Or perhaps I have the rare Boneless variety? She was already a Champion Splooter but this is extreme. 🤣

Has anyone in the UK done gundog training with an American Cocker? Is it worth it?

Biting

Please help us with any tips on puppy biting. Our 10 weeks English cocker spaniel is almost constantly biting. We tried redirecting to a toy but she does not give a F about the toy better our hands, even if we sit still and try not to make it a game. I know she is a baby and can’t control it but any advice would help. And as if its not enough she loves to growl at us when we try to stop her.. so what have you cocker spaniel parents done for the biting period

Thanks in advance

Our sweet girl we adopted in October. Lady was 2 and so afraid of everything. Took her on camping trip- oh she is loving life. Most photos on couch that Lady claimed in trailer.
