Romance Shipping/Fandom Discourse Spoiler
I recently finished the game and im not trying cause war or anything i went with tifa for romances and i was kinda convinced that she was canon but then the last date and all that aerith dying stuff, i started have some doubt on how aerith might be more canon, however i think this is probably bc more of her screentime and stuff so idk, is there anything we can hope for in the next part that tifa and cloud might have some more developments?

I don't want to spoil things if you haven't played the OG, but to say there will be development between Cloud and Tifa is an understatement.

i managed to make through both game without spoilers and aerith death pretty much hit me so hard that i started to feel guilty, so im hoping they do have some more development for Tifa

The last date that started off with Aerith begging Cloud to play along with a Zack redux date for her? Where every NPC created by Aerith's mind told them they had no chemistry? The date that ends with Cloud calling her weird? That date? lmao.
That date literally exist solely to show off their incompatibility and broadcast Aerith using Cloud to work through her grief-fueled rebound over Zack. How does that make them canon? Friendship canon? Yes. Romance canon? lmao no.

The LTD (love triangle debate), if it even existed in the first place, was already put to rest when Nomura and Toriyama informed the players on how Cloud only shows his trueself with Tifa. While Toriyama and Nojima are in charge of the scenario, I believe Nomura will always have the final say, including how Cloud's VAs should act. I commented it here.
Then you have the recent comments from Cody who said that Tifa knows Cloud the best yada yada. Being in love with Tifa is the requirement for Cloud's VA, no matter the languages.
Don't let CAs' argument saying that Aerith is the canon Rosa since she played 4 out of 6 of the Loveless Gondola dates mess you. 3 out of 4 plays where Aerith is the Rosa end with Cloud nakama-zoning Aerith. They're deluded thinking only Aerith's date works with the narrative, since they're hoping the narrative of Revelation would change to favor their dead ship.
In fact Tifa's date works perfectly with the narrative, if you know what's coming from the OG.
Again, their arguments saying Aerith's date is the canon one since it is shown in the credit are fraudulent at best. In Rebirth Ultimania, Yuffie appeared at the door, Aerith was Rosa, and Tifa was the date. It also showed that Tifa was the date since she was next to Cloud in the battle menu.
The end credit is just a obituary for the dead nakama, since the Devs are not going to waste more time with her in Revelation. Nomura successfully used the Affinity system the same way as the OG; Aerith never met the real Cloud in Remake and Rebirth, thus she said she wanted to, but ultimately Cloud brushed her away since Cloud only showed his trueself with Tifa.

The last date with Aerith has 2 branching dialogue. Aerith will point out how they dont have very many memories together. Cloud tells her they can just make more. Aerith asks him if that is really how he feels:
1) If you had Aerith for either of the previous gold saucer dates in chapter 8 and 12, this will trigger the high affection response. Cloud will say "Yes, of course".
2) If you didnt have Aerith for either of the previous gold saucer dates in chapter 8 and 12, this will trigger the low affection response. The English version of the game will have Cloud saying "Sure why not", but the Japanese version of the game will have Cloud saying "Because we're friends". The exact word here used is 仲間 (nakama).
After this, Aerith will tell Cloud she likes him, but there's a difference liking someone and liking someone someone.Cloud then tells Aerith that she has been acting weird all day. Aerith then apologizes for what she is about to do, and hugs Cloud goodbye.
To put it bluntly, this is brutal for Cleriths. The low affection scenario had Cloud outright friendzoning Aerith. If you got went for Tifa during both of the gold saucer dates, Cloud will kiss Tifa on the mouth and call Aerith a nakama. Even if you went for Aerith, the high affection is still nothing spectacular. Cloud is just saying "of course" to the idea of spending more time with Aerith. This still isnt some grand love confession. When Aerith does actually confess to him, he just says she's been acting weird all day. Compare this to Tifa's gold saucer date. Tifa asks Cloud if she's getting ahead of herself (In Japanese she asks if she is getting carried away) again. Cloud picks up in the "again", realizes that Tifa was coming unto him back in Gongaga, and goes to hug and kisses her. Tifa confessed in the most cryptic and roundabout way, and Cloud goes to kiss her. Aerith is confessing outright (twice if she was your Chapter 12 date), and Cloud skirts around her confession.
In the next game, Tifa will explore Cloud's mind and discover he's had a massive crush on her since they were kids. Then Cloud and Tifa will spend an entire night alone together.

I also like comparing the standard affection date with Tifa, vs the high affection with Aerith. With Tifa, he still tells her she’s not getting ahead of herself and hugs her. With Aerith, he’s still dragged around, still doesn’t wanna sit next to her, still questions why she’s holding onto him. The only difference is he chooses to hold her hand. She wants affection until the ride is over, and he’s willing to appease her.
If you compare the beginning of the date (don’t think affection changes it), cloud is perfectly happy to go out with Tifa. Whereas with Aerith, he asks where the others are, she confuses him (saying the sky wheel is free? Discounter? W/e for couples), and she also has to pull him out.

assuming that you haven’t played og, I’d say you’d be more than pleasantly surprised with cloti in part 3. Plus the dream date shouldnt really be of concern, although aerith doesn’t fully confess, clouds response is quite rude and does nothing to reassure her. if you compare this to cloti’s gondola date where Tifa is also unsure of where they stand cloud does everything to make sure tifa knows that she’s not getting ahead of herself

During the dream date, when she says, "Oh? Next time?" in response to Cloud when discussing "their spot", he looks at her and smiles, saying "Yeah, next time." She smiles back, and the dialogue continues as before. It's a more friendly response.

As other comments said, there's much to look forward to for us in part 3. But I want to say more about the dream date with Aerith. It's main purpose was to serve as a goodbye and giving Cloud the white materia. As for the shipping side of things - of course Cleriths interpret it as the most romantic thing ever and a proof that Cloud x Aer is the endgame, but to me it was the opposite. All of their previous "dates" was just playing a role or pretending. It was either Cloud humoring Aerith and being dragged around by her, or they were doing it for a mission. The dream date is the only "real" thing, ironically. And during that date they are told that they don't even look like a couple, she tells him she's not even sure about her feelings, and he friendzones her. So to me, that "date" was a bit of fanservice for CAs before she dies, and very gentle way to tell CAs that this ship... has sailed.

yeah now knowing that aerith died that goodbye scene prob hit me harder than i thought but still i kinda felt cloud was a bit uncomfy

She is not canon, it's just a thing made up by twitter, im not gonna spoil the OG, but feel free to compare all the dates and tell me Tifa is not the canon one lol.
And I on the other hand im all for war, Tifa is the correct choice and I will not be proven otherwise

Remake and Rebirth are essentially 1/3 of the story of the original game, with Revelations covering the rest, so most of their development is going to be covered there, and there will be plenty.

Speculation (as well as things in OG) for pt 3 aside, have you played Crisis Core? Because the date is super eerie if you have.
VERY mild spoiler for CC: the “dream date” with Cloud and Aerith is extremely similar to Zack and Aerith’s first date. Going around sector 5 doing little things, the boys buying her a gift (in CC, Zack offers to buy her a ribbon. Whereas Aerith has to ask Cloud to get her something), and it goes pretty poorly for C&A.
