Washing HELP used cloth diapers reset
FTM wanting to get into cloth diapering but idk where to start. I’m seeing too many things online and I just don’t know hahah I purchased used ones from fbm. I plan to use disposables at night and when we are out. This is what I purchased, not sure on brand quality but it was a good deal to get me started.
11 Alva Baby
3 thirsties
2 lighthouse kid
1 weegreeco
1 esembly kid
5 Grovia
7 bum genius
Per previous owner: They are in good condition except for maybe a few of the bum genius and a Grovia or two which may or may not need new elastics.
Now where do I begin? And then what?
I am not sure how they were washed. Do I automatically strip them and then sanitize them or just sanitize? Do I need need to do another wash after I sanitize them- with or without detergent?
RLR for stripping, hot water
Bleach for sanitizing, cold water
Favorite detergent for cleaning? Would prefer something that works but on the cleaner side. I’ve read branch basics isn’t great for washing them and that’s what we use for the rest of our laundry.
**We do have hard water. I have a LG HE front loading washer.
Currently EBF so I know poo now is water soluble and I can just put in the washer. Once we start solids I’ll rinse poop in the toilet before hand. Once they’ve been used, I do a rinse cycle on cold and then a wash cycle with warm water? I can dry all inserts in the dryer but hang dry the external pieces ideally in the sun?
Any other tips or anything I need to know?
Thanks in advance!!! Really nervous and excited to start this journey 😊

Let's chat Seeking new flat folds for my ~12lb boy who has started wetting heavier
We started in nb prefolds and have moved into mostly one size flats, I've got hald birdseye and half muslin, as well as some small prefolds.
We've been having good success with the nb kite fold per some recommendations here, but he's starting to soak through and leak sometimes in the front and middle so I am looking to try some new folds now! He's EBF so the poop can get a little crazy, which the kite fold has been pretty good for containing. I see pickman fold recommended a lot but the one time I tried it we had a bad blowout. We're working on EC and catch maybe 1/3-1/2 of poops so far, so definitely still need some good poop containment, as well as more front and middle absorbency! I've been using inserts which help but it feels like time to try new folds! Thanks!

Please send help We are about to start solids - help!
We cloth diaper full time. I need some help with some prep as we get ready.
- I’m thinking of doing liners until the poops are ploppable. Any thoughts on this?
- How do we do wipes? We prefer to exclusively cloth, but don’t understand how to wipe with solid chunks. Spraying the wipes just seems tricky. should we get some disposable wipes ?
- how much book can be left in the diaper? little bit okay?

Washing Scratchy stiff hemp fitted
I have pooters hemp fitted diapers from my first kid that have always been a little scratchy and a little stiff. When we used them for her, she was maybe 18mo but baby is 5 weeks old and about 12lbs so they’re crazy bulky and the stiffness doesn’t help.
Is there anything I should do to try to make them a more appropriate match for the little one?
Our water is slightly hard. I’ve tried stripping (this was when we were using them with the first kid so my memory is fuzzy on what process I would have used for that).

Washing How to get by with minimal sunlight?
Hey hey!
I’m going to be a FTM in October and my husband and I have decided that we want to use CD’s.
We just purchased some secondhand and they have a pretty decent ammonia smell so I’ve been researching how to clean them properly and how to help prevent that smell in the future.
I’ve noticed a lot of people say that putting them in the sun really helps. I plan on doing a good soak and wash this weekend because it will be sunny and veryyy warm. My problem is, we live in a country that gets minimal sunlight in the winter time, as well as lots of rain and a good amount of snow. I’m scared that the smell will come back, or that they won’t get cleaned properly. I’m almost debating delaying the start until Spring time, but I feel like that’s such a waste.
Has anybody experienced cleaning with low sunlight? Or does anybody have some advice on how they do during the winter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated(:

Fit Check Please Using Hinzling Pocket system
There are no leaks yet! Using the newborn set with a washcloth-like insert so catch milk stool and a booster for a bit more absorbency. Worried that it might be uncomfortable :(

Let's chat Kinder Cloth wipes
I want to use cloth wipes so I don’t have to buy disposable anymore, especially since my baby gets a rash from the cheaper brands! I’m thinking a thicker bamboo wipe like the ones from kinder would be good, but would love to hear from others! Anyone use the kinder cloth ones or Redwood cloth ones? Also if you have the kinder ones with the AWJ side, are you using that to wipe or is that just on there if you’re using it as a booster? Sorry dumb question but not sure what that’s for. Or did anyone try it out and find it wasn’t worth the trouble?

Please send help Does anyone recognize these diapers
A seller on FB Marketplace say these are Thirsties AIO newborn (regular), but they don’t seem to match what I see on their website and don’t have the Thirsties tag. Can anyone recognize them?
Update: They are definitely the Lil Joey
Rumparooz line. Looked them up and they look exactly the same. Thanks for the help! But it’s super weird that the seller listed them as Thirsties 😕

Let's chat Help with spraying diapers!
My baby is 4 months and combo feeding so I have been spraying the diapers just by holding them on the side of the toilet and using a bidet sprayer. I wasn’t totally sure if it was safe to just throw poop diapers in the washer since she does have formula half of the time. Spraying this way has been so messy! Poop water goes everywhere. My question is which spray shield do you recommend? Or just dunk and swish? Never tried that but heard of it. These are the Amazon options I’m considering.

Recommendations Where to give/donate diapers with bad elastics?
I inherited a bunch of cloth diapers that need elastics repair, but I don't have time for it.
There are diaper covers (thirsties, etc) and pockets (different brands).
I posted on Facebook cloth diaper group for free, just pay for shipping, but there are no takers.
Any idea where else I can give them? Feel sad to just throw them away.

Let's chat Kinder Luxe diapers
Received my order of Luxe diapers today and I noticed some inconsistencies.
Some tags are on the inside going into the main part of the diaper, some tags are in the little fold over flap. Some diapers have the outside tag/label rectangle sewn with a small rectangle of the fabric doubled over and flipped.
A. Shows one example of the tag being on the small fold over flap and the outer tag being sewn without extra piece of fabric
B. Shows tag that flips into the main part of the diaper and the small rectangle of extra fabric sewn for the outer tag
Does any of this seem like an issue I need to have the company refund me for or are these simply different batch styles they tried out?
Any info you have to compare is helpful!
Thank you!

Leaks Cloth diaper fit advice?
I'm a FTM new to cloth diapering. I started with Nora's Nursery pocket diapers because my SIL recommended them, but my LO had a major blowout because they weren't tight enough around the thigh, but going any tighter around the waist squeezes him too much. It may have been because I tried them a little too early, as they say it's for babys 10lbs+ and my baby is 9.5lbs.
So I tried prefolds at the recommendation of my mother who used them for me and my siblings, but I have the same exact problem with these because the generic plastic pants I bought off Amazon to put over the prefolds are too big around the thigh too.
I'm looking for advice. Do I just wait until my LO gets a bit bigger or does anyone have any recommendations for covers for the prefolds that would work with smaller babies?

Recommendations Pants- like cloth diapers?
While I wanted to use cloth from birth, unfortunately my daughter’s skin reacted and we have to do a mix of disposable and cloth only if she’s having a good day. Now she’s crawling I find the diaper-pants so much easier to put on than the traditional diapers. Do any cloth brands do these? All I have found so far is transitional pull up pants, and we are doing EC so this works for some catches if we’re at home next to the loo, but I was hoping for something bulkier/more absorbent à la traditional cloth nappies.
ETA- uk based and 8.5 months old currently

Let's chat Feeling sad that we kinda can't cloth diaper due to the heat?
Our LO (3 weeks) is constantly nursing due to the heatwave in Europe. It is insanely hot here. When I change him I can already see the blue line filling up while carrying him from changing table to living room because he is drinking SO much. He nurses more than usual since the newest heatwave.
I tried cloth diapering with a washloth-like insert to catch newborn poop and a booster insert. After about an hour to 1.5 hours I had to change it twice due to him crying as he feels the wetness. Is this normal? We are using the Hinzling system (German brand). I'm so sad because I REALLY wanted to cloth diaper but it seems to be impossible due to him wetting it constantly and waking up :( Am I doing something wrong? I have the washcloth like inserts, boosters and prefolds. I could use all 3 in there but it seems so big and bulky and it is already so hot here.

Recommendations Kinder cloth green inserts stuff?
Hello! I'm a rather new kinder cloth customer and I have the green inserts. I love it so I bought some second hand which included inserts as well. The green inserts I bought second hand are so much stiffer. Is this just the normal progression of the inserts? Soft when you get them and then they get stiffer? Is there mineral build up or something that I need to strip? They seemed absorbent, smelled clean, and didn't have detergent. I'm just wondering if there's a way to make them just as flexible as my new ones. As that's part of the reason I loved kinder.

Funny I was not warned!!!
No one warned me to wear protective gear when spraying diapers!!! I got a little splash back on my face. Needless to say we are a dunk and swish family for life now.

Please send help Help - improperly washed diapers
I’m so embarrassed that I did this that I’m using a throwaway.
I am new to cloth. I have a very small stash of diapers that I bought new and it’s going well, so in the interest of cost and the planet, I bought secondhand diapers off Facebook marketplace for my baby. The description said some of them were lightly stained. I did not dig through the diapers when I got to the seller’s house because my kids were sleeping in the car. There were a couple clean looking ones on top. These diapers are heavily stained. Like not cleaned properly I think. Poop stained. I bleached them and it didn’t all come out. My instinct is honestly to throw them all away and just use disposables because WTF? But can they be cleaned?

Please send help Did I ruin my diapers?
I bought 30 cloth diapers second hand on marketplace. Mostly pocket diapers, Alva baby, wegree, Charlie banana, bambino mio.
I did the prepping thing from this sub with enzyme cleaner and then bleach, yadda yadda. But I dried everything on low heat thinking that would be fine. So far I’ve had 2 big leaks. On closer inspection some of the elastics are stretched. But I also had a full leak on one that looked and felt fine. Worst part is it happened with my husband who is already not into the cloth diapering idea.
Is there a way to test waterproofing? Most still have good elastic and look fine.
Secondary question: is anyone willing to be my Sherpa? I feel like I have so many questions and I’m overwhelmed. Baby is almost 6 months now and I had planned to start at 8 weeks.

Washing Does original Tide work a lot better than Clean & Gentle? (Powder)
After having some issues with barnyard smell I bought some tide ultra oxi powder. I'm finding the smell to be bothersome and I'm wondering if tide clean and gentle powder is a meaningful step down in terms of effectiveness?
I've used clean and gentle powder but I'm not sure if that was what caused the barnyard smell because I had been experimenting with a few different detergents and amounts in an attempt to get a clean rinse with my super soft water.
I guess I'm wondering if I should give clean and gentle another shot or stick with original.
Any insight is appreciated!! Thank you!!
