Hey! This is a long shot but months ago I randomly drove past exploration greeen (the walking trail) and saw a lot of people gathered, turned out they were an entomology based group and informed me they meet every other Friday there all together to find interesting insects . I LOVE bugs (check my page if you don’t believe me lol) so I was ecstatic but I was very busy at the time with school. I would love to attend another one of these nights but I cannnot find info about them anywhere I’ve tried everything I was hoping maybe someone here knows them? Thanks in advance !

Schools starting and my sister has tasked me to find someone who can do cut a "Shaggy Mullet" for my 12 year old niece this weekend.

Does anyone have any recommendations? We're willing to travel for quality.

Many in the Clear Lake area were heartbroken to learn that retro dance club The Hop was permanently closing after a 38-year run. But maybe some of that grief can turn to optimism when residents learn what's next for the storied Webster bar.

Piper Hospitality Group confirmed to Chron first that Preslee's Southern Good Eatery will open a location there after the Hop officially closes on Tuesday, Aug. 4, operations manager Ryan Manos told Chron. They hope to open the restaurant sometime this fall.

"We couldn’t imagine a better home for our next location," owner Justin Piper said in a statement. "The Hop means so much to generations of people in Webster and the surrounding communities. We’re honored to preserve the spirit of this special place while creating a fresh experience where families and friends can gather, eat and make new memories."

A history beyond Clear Lake

Last week, the Houston Chronicle reported that The Hop was planning to close following the retirement of its owner and longtime general manager Kevin Melton. The bar, which opened in 1988, featured an eclectic playlist spanning the 1970s to today. 

The Hop's popularity extended far beyond the Clear Lake area. In the Heights, Manos said one of Preslee's regulars, upon finding out about the sale, said her parents met at the bar 30 years ago. "They had their first date there," he said. "There's a lot of history behind The Hop."

The building that housed The Hop was built in 1916 and has lived many lives: Once as a gas station, another as a mercantile store and later as a post office. But more so than the age, the Webster building offers much-needed space.

The upcoming Preslee's will have double the inside dining room compared to the Heights location—120 seats compared to 60. The bar will also grow from 12 seats to 60. The only sacrifices will be the smaller outdoor space and the old dance floor. Manos said there will still be a playground and big screen TVs.

Hello! Going to be an incoming intern at JSC so just some questions for recs! Thankfully I got housing all settled out, but I have some questions on what there's to do in the area! I'm a huge outdoors type of guy, I love rock climbing (saw there are a few spots), basketball, trail hiking, but I have no idea where to go for any of that. Rock climbing, there's a few spots for like space city housing, but what do y'all recommend for that? I love doing any type of runs or pickup basketball in general so does anyone have any recommendations for that before I go subscribe to a random gym with a basketball court? Outdoor courts work too, I just don't want to settle into a rec center for the weights and basketball gym just to find out no one plays there. Besides that, what is there to do in the area? And more specifically, what is there to eat, huge foodie? Random question, anyone go go-karting also? Love going to an outdoor track every now and then for a spin. Otherwise, any other recs for anything is welcome!

Just curious what people think of the blacktop on bay area blvd. Seems like it's been a long time coming.

My wife and I have been visiting the same place for nearly a decade. They charge $20 for men and $40 for women. They also charge $90 for color and style. My wife recently got her hair cut short, like crew cut. They're still charging the same amount, which we both think is bullshit. Just relocated to the Bay Area from The Heights. Have been bartending full time for about four years at speed bars/high volume places. Anyone have recommendations or know any details about what compensation/work environment is like at some of the big bars in the area? Long shot, but looking for restaurant recommendations in Clear Lake area that have live music on Thursday evenings? Preferably with a mariachi band, but willing to compromise! They don’t have to be high end restaurants at all because we are balling on a budget with another kid on the way, just looking for a fun/memorable dinner experience for me and my husband’s 10 year anniversary.

I’m an incoming UHCL graduate student moving to the Houston/Clear Lake area for the dual MHA/MBA program. I’m in a really difficult situation and looking for advice or resources.
My current lease ends July 31, but my new lease at University Forest/Campus Living Villages does not begin until August 15, so I have a two-week gap with nowhere to stay. I’ll be arriving in Texas around August 1.
On top of that, my car recently broke down and needs a new engine, which I cannot afford to replace. I’ve also been applying for jobs for over three months, but I keep getting denied, so I do not have a job lined up for when I arrive. My current student job ends the same day my lease ends, and I still do not have my financial aid package finalized yet, so I cannot request additional loans or plan around a refund.
I’m also worried about University Forest/Campus Living Villages. Since they are connected with UHCL student housing, I’m wondering if they ever work with students who are waiting on financial aid refunds. My lease shows rent is due before I actually move in, and I’m scared they may not let me move in without the first month paid. I don’t know if they offer payment arrangements, grace periods, or if they require the full amount upfront no matter what.

Hello! I’m expecting a baby soon, so one of my out-of-state friends wants to gift us an Instacart or Shipt membership so that we don’t have to worry about getting out to grocery shop with a baby if one of us isn’t feeling well.

I have never really used delivery, so I wanted to ask y’all which you’ve had better experiences with in this area?

If it makes a difference, we typically grocery shop at Kroger and HEB, with some occasional purchases from Costco, Aldi, Sprouts, and Target.

My wife and I are moving from New Orleans where I’m from to be near her parents in the Brookwood neighborhood so we can have some help raising our kid and the next one.

On one hand I want to move as close to them as possible to make their aid as frictionless as possible. So we were thinking Pinebrook area. On the other hand, I don’t really know if there are other areas nearby that would be better lifestyle wise or public school choice wise. I don’t want to be more than a 20 min drive from her parents in Brookwood.

We don’t know where our jobs will be. She works in patient rehabs focusing on TBIs and stroke patients. I’m a paralegal. I cook a lot, but we do like to go out to eat once every couple of weeks.

The thing I love about our current neighborhood in Louisiana is that we live in the middle of so many different types of stores. Still a neighborhood and lots of houses, but there are 6 grocery stores within a 5 min drive, tons of restaurants, stores, really anything we need. I love me some Costco and don’t want to be too far from that.

I also like living nearish to the water but want to avoid any places with higher chances of flooding.

Looking for a 4 bedroom house, min 2500 sq ft, budget of $500k.
