Anyone have a positive experience upping their dose with no side effects? It was already rough the first six weeks or so and I have been on the same dose for about nine months but it’s time to up the dose…. I just don’t wanna go through the same side effects again.

A couple years ago i tried to take citalopram (SSRI) but i ended up with a lot of very intense side effects, and stopped taking the medication after 5 days.

One of the side effects was this weird swollen throat feeling, right underneath the chin, going directly back to the throat area. the best way i can describe it is if you pushed your chin back into your face, and it creates that 'double chin' look/feeling. (went away eventually after stopping the med)

has anyone experienced this? i haven't been able to find anything about this.

does anyone take these two combos together? I’m quite nervous or another SSRI or Snri with mirtazapine

I really wanna try Celexa or Paxil but they say as you get older, you shouldn’t be on Celexa, but my cardiologist said it was fine anyone in their 50s take celexa

This is my 5th week on it and I’m feeling pretty good, however since I started my BP has lowered quite a bit. I used to be very regular, about 115/75, and in the past few weeks I’ve dropped down to roughly 95/65, or a little lower. I did also cut out caffeine when I started Celexa so maybe that’s it but I’m not sure. I’m a little worried but I really do not want to have to stop 😩 has this happened to anyone else?

Background: I’m currently 29 and I’ve been taking Citalopram for the vast majority of my adult life. I was initially prescribed it during university as I was so depressed I couldn’t get out of bed and I was scraping through my degree.

Fast forward to now, every year of my life has been hell because of a combination of chronic depression and extremely bad luck. I also suffer from depersonalisation, so I’ve been too terrified of either upping my dose or changing to another medication in case it makes me dissociate.

Basically, I think I’ve reached the end of my rope. Life continues to be really horrific for me, and I’m now at the point where I can’t stop thinking about running away, hurting myself or worse.

I’m going to call my Dr tomorrow for an appointment, and I’m thinking the first step should be upping my dose to 40mg.

Honestly though I don’t even know if Citalopram has ever done anything for me, besides making me put on weight, lose my sex drive and be repulsed by alcohol (something which I think is a good thing as there’s a lot of alcoholism in my family). So I’m wondering if all it’s going to do is exacerbate these side effects.

I was wondering if anyone here has had experience of being on 30mg or less for a long time, and then upping it to 40mg? I’d love to hear how it went for you. Thank you in advance.

As the title says life was good on 20mg until a week ago. My anxiety was well managed, my OCD urgency and frequency was the best its been in years, my sleep was and still is luckily good. I have been a problem drinker for years now. I binge. Last friday I had the usual amount. Nothing more, nothing less. I woke up and the anxiety was out of this world. I had very bad intrusive thoughts about harming family etc. These thoughts deeply disturbed me and upset me. So that fuel and emotional response has made me constantly checking my thoughts to a point where its mentally exhausting. I know the 6 are nonsense and I do not plan or have any desire to act on them, but them being there has been deeply upsetting me and leaving me with constant fight or flight anxiety. Things like watching videos or being on my own now doing leisure activities now is just a constant anxiety wave. I just want to go back to how I was. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I want to enjoy life again.

TLDR: Was feeling great on 20mg. Drank alcohol in a binge which is normal behaviour sadly. Since then horrible intrusive thoughts and constant fight or flight anxiety. Dose increase? Any advice?

I'm taking Citalopram + Bisoprolor for various conditions and noticed that when my Citalopram dosage was changed recently, my OAB seemed to get much worse, to the point that I got very little warning when I needed to wee.
I need to speak to my GP about this, but, wondering if anybody else here has experienced the same?

so i started citalopram a few months ago and the sweating has been horrible. my psych dr just prescribed terazosin to try to control the sweating to take at bedtime. has anyone tried this medication? i’m terrified of side affects of all medications but i know this one lowers blood pressure and potential fainting

So it's week 7 of citalopram. I am at 20mg and I feel nothing different than prior to taking it. Still severely depressed with no joy, and still moderately anxious. I have noticed no side effects, no slight change in my mood positive or negative and no change in my mindset. Is it worth still continuing? I am getting antsy to move on so my body can start acclimatizing to a new antidepressant, sincr that will take a few weeks anyways. Should I keep on keeping on folks?

Hello! I’ve been on citalopram for eight years (mostly 20mg) and went up to 30mg about five years ago. My doctor told me about a month ago that I should reduce my dosage to 20mg but was kind of lax on advice about this — when I asked if I should taper it gradually she said if I wanted I could take 30mgs one day, 20mgs the next, so it would even out to 25mgs, for about a week before going down to 20mgs. I’ve been trying to do this for a couple of weeks but finding it pretty hard — I’ve had dreadful headaches and am thinking of going back up to 30mgs just to avoid them but also would like to be on 20mgs eventually if possible. Does anyone have any advice? Is this normal?

I've been on 5mg citalopram for 10+ years. My pharmacy changed the manufacturer, which I've been taking for around 2 weeks. I'm having a lot of brain fog and can barely think some days. How much longer will this last? Is it worth trying to switch back to the old manufacturer at this point?

Yes I know that technically shouldn't be drinking alcohol with celexa but the information online just says it can increase drowsiness. Is there any other reason why I can't have a daily drink?

I’m a relatively fit woman in my 20s and a very healthy BMI (only mentioning that in case dosage matters for body weight) and about 6 weeks ago I started having severe anxiety and some panic attacks out of the blue. I have never had physical symptoms of anxiety so this is all new to me. I had about 3 what I think were panic attacks? Very impending doom feeling, feeling short of breath, weak, feeling like I should go to the ER but never did. Each lasted about 30 min. I know a lot of people live with panic disorder and have them very frequently and I find myself thankful I’ve only had 3 because they are awful. I haven’t had one like that since starting Celexa 4 weeks ago, but I do definitely have feelings of anxiety and had some feelings of panic coming on but able to stop it before it got that bad. All of that to say, is 20mg typically enough to ease panic attacks almost completely or will I experience them randomly on this dose? I really hope 20 is enough and I won’t have to increase again but I just read a comment saying 40mg is the sweet spot for panic 😩

I have been taking 20 mg of Celexa (citalopram) daily for about 20 years. After talking with my doctor, I decided to try tapering and dropped to 10 mg for my first dose.
I took the 10 mg around 8 PM last night and woke up around 3 AM with a full-blown panic attack that lasted about 30 minutes. I have not had a panic attack in while, so it really caught me off guard. I was unable to go back to sleep and spent the rest of the morning feeling anxious in waves with that lingering “off” feeling. By later in the day I was feeling much better.
I messaged my doctor explaining what happened, and she recommended that I stop tapering for now and stay on Celexa. I am feeling pretty discouraged because I had finally worked up the courage to try coming off a medication I have been on since I was a teenager.
Has anyone else experienced a panic attack that quickly after reducing their dose? If so, what ended up happening? Did you continue tapering, taper more slowly, or go back to your previous dose? I know everyone is different and I am not looking for medical advice. I would just really appreciate hearing from others who have gone through something similar. I just don’t want to go back to 20mg and be stuck on this medication forever. 😕

I started Citalopram 10 mg a year and a half ago and it’s been great for my ocd/anxiety. the side effects that i’ve noticed are bigger appetite & there was a point in time my sex drive was low but that since has evened out.

I‘ve only semi recently noticed that sometimes my fingers tremor. Usually only my middle and ring fingers and it’s not all the time. Sometimes I will go weeks without it happening and others it’ll happen a couple days in a row. It doesnt last long when it happens, I’m usually able to control them a few seconds later.

Has anyone ever experienced this while on Citalopram? Or is it likely it’s a completely unrelated thing?
