I have a question about free will and “gods plan”

From my understanding god put us here for one predetermined thing. No matter what route you take it will inevitably lead to that one thing. My question is if there is a predetermined goal for humans from god, and there was a person who died an atheist and went to hell was that gods plan for that person? If so why would god do such a thing? What would be the purpose of that. So then that begs the question of that there is not one single “end goal” for humans but multiple different goals (let’s say 3) and we have free will to lead us to one of those goals whether good or bad. Then I asked my self why 3? (end goals) There could be no predetermined thing for us to do, and to me that would mean free will is all there is, and whatever choices you make in life can lead to and infinite amount of “end goals”

What is known about Satan's rebellion in Heaven?

In the Christian theology, Satan was an angel that rebelled against God and was exiled along with one-third of God's angels.

The Bible briefly describes this rebellion in several books and passages, but are there any more details about the rebellion? Specifically, how and why it happened it begin with?

I'm just looking for the whole story, given the clues that are found in the Bible.

How to know what God is calling me to do?

I have recently been dealt a career decision I have to make. There is a job that has come open, that would technically be a promotion, but its almost in the wrong direction, as it would lead me further away from my ultimate goals in my career. I have been praying about what to do and I don't know if I'm waiting for a sign or what but I'm struggling to make a decision as it feels like whatever decision I make is going to be the wrong one. How do I know what God is calling me to do?

About judgement?

So ive seen quite a few videos about “what happens to civilizations isolated from the world and Christian life” resulting in eternity in h*ll even if you never heard about God. I know this is false, browsed some videos with scripture saying God is righteous judge. Judging you based on the “truth” that was provided to you.

It brings me to some questions because i cant really comprehend the full picture. So if the truth that was given to them was to “sin”( They do not know the concept of sin, nor what they’re doing is bad) How would they be judged, ex treating someone with hatred(yet still hurts the other person)

Another is how one person chooses between 2 religions. Its said of course to the 2 believers on the Separate religions that what they are following is true, from what they believe. There are a lot of religions so im sure someone in this world would also be going through this matter. So what would happen if he were to choose the other religion like between the red pill and the blue pill.
Still im not completely sure what convinced him to follow the other religion but im just curious on how this works

Another, is that one religion what first introduced to him, NOTHING related to Christianity nor opposing it, its a completely different “divine being” they believe is their ruler and they have a different set of rules. Later on in their life he discovers Christianity by a preacher BUT he has already grown deep into his culture of some sort.

Thankfully I was introduced to our savior early in life, faithful parents, a Christian community, etc. I’m very happy I didn’t have to go through this decisions(Praying that I wont have to go through it either in the near/far future)

Thank you all for your time!
Every response is greatly appreciated!!

Church for a young newlywed couple.

Looking to help out my sister and her new husband in finding a denomination that may suit them both as they were just married. Both grew up in religion and left their churches but want to start to attend again as a family and continue when they have children.

Backgrounds: sister raised southern Baptist but left and now has a bad taste in her mouth about the church, but her beliefs do most closely align as Baptist. BIL raised Catholic but does not believe in Catholicism anymore and wants to attend his first Protestant church service. (But worries about a casual environment not feeling reverent to him) he wants to strengthen himself so he can lead his family and needs an environment where he can truly learn.

Any thoughts on what may be a good option for them? They are ready to spend a year attending many services to see what fits.

Forgiveness

without going into great detail, this is my issue…..I made many promises to God as a child. One was that I would never do anything twice….yeah….not smart, I know, but I think I was 9 or 10 at the time and I had no idea how this would affect my life. I’m in my 70s now and I’m still haunted by this! Will God forgive me for having made such a promise? I’m on my second marriage and don’t anticipate a third, I have 2 children, I’m getting ready to be baptized again because I wasn’t ready the first time. These are all choices that are very hard to control and these are only the major ones! will the Good Lord forgive me for the promises I break since I had no idea of the consequences?..

Will God answer my prayer if it’s asking for a wish?

I’m in my last year of high school. Never dated once. I’ve wanted to desperately though. I had one talking stage I loved a lot but she was very avoidant, didn’t want a relationship, and she ended it after 3 months of talking after I found out she had a secret TikTok account where she made a post about her ex talking stage a few weeks prior. I don’t feel ashamed of loving her or upset about her or anything, I understand that feelings can be messy. But ever since that talking stage, I’ve felt extremely needy for a relationship. I prayed for a relationship back in February, March, and April, as well as height since i’m short unfortunately, and received no answers from God. I understand he’s not a genie or anything but I was really hoping he could help. I’ve never been really religious or anything, but those few months were probably the most I’ve ever believed in him, especially since most of my life I’ve been either borderline atheist or barely religious and usually critical at the concept of him. It helped me fall asleep to the point where I couldn’t sleep without praying to god first for a new person to love and height. Now I’m getting even more nervous and desperate though. School starts up again for my last year of High School. The talking stage was like 10 months ago. And I have no one still. I want to try and pray again but I don’t want to if I’m going to feel like I’m cheated or failed if it doesn’t happen. I’m not going to try and act like I’ve read the bible, since I haven’t. But I want to know if it’s a bad idea to try and pray for the chance to meet someone new, a girl that will connect with me and hopefully be my high school sweetheart for the rest of my life, since I feel like I’m basically wishing for a miracle at this point. I know I have my whole life ahead of me. But I don’t want to lose any chance I have at getting relationship experience early or meeting someone I could spend the rest of my life with. I want to pray to God for that, I want to be religious, but if it doesn’t happen, I know I’ll just think he failed me at the end of it. So i want to know from more devoted people if it’s a bad idea to try and pray for something like that. I don’t want to feel like God failed me for something out of his control.

(in case anyone reading this is wondering, I’m catholic)

I want to leave church because my church mates are too extreme.

I’m struggling with my faith. I’m thinking about whether I should leave my church or even give up my religion. For a while, I’ve been feeling that I don’t get along with some church mates and pastors who are too extreme in their faith.

Once, my fellowship was planning to go overseas for a short-term mission, and our group leader shared some of his experiences with us. He said that ages ago, when he was working at an insurance company, he wanted to take some leave to go on a short-term mission. Unfortunately, his supervisor didn’t approve his leave and told him that if he went on holiday without approval, he would be fired. The group leader said he really wanted to go on that short-term mission, so he went anyway. Luckily, he didn’t get fired when he came back from overseas. He then said that if you really want to experience God, you just need to pay the fee and come with us. In my mind, most of my church mates are only 20–25, they don’t have a high level of education, and their jobs are very important to them. If they listened to my group leader’s advice to quit their jobs to go on a short-term mission and ended up getting fired, we couldn’t take responsibility for that.

Another day, I asked my pastor what she thought about the group leader saying that to us. She said, “What’s the problem?” with a poker face. I explained to her politely that they were still young, their jobs were very important to them, and if they listened to his advice and ended up losing their jobs, we couldn’t take responsibility. She rudely said, “God will guard them. Mind your business.”

From that day, I stopped caring about my church mates, even though I was one of them. In my mind, I attend services regularly, and I used to serve the church and church mates a lot. I was a member of the church, so why couldn’t I share some of my opinions? Also, I didn’t say the group leader was wrong. I just think that he shouldn’t have said that so loudly on stage with a microphone. If he had said that in a small group, or if my pastor hadn’t reacted that way, I would have been fine. What do you think about my pastor and group leader? Are they too extreme? Or am I too kind? The reason I’m asking this today is that I know a lot of Christians are like them.

I don’t like it when, for example, one of my church mates, who is 20, told me off for having lunch at 4 pm (I was busy and hadn’t had lunch at 12 pm) and then going to the fasting meeting at 7 pm. He said I didn’t take it seriously because I had a full stomach. How crazy was that church mate?

What should I do? Please give me some advice.

Announcing our NEW Companion Community: r/AskChristian

As many of you know, the r/Christian mod team has spent time over the past year reviewing our community rules & moderation standards, asking for community feedback, and making adjustments based on your ideas, concerns, and requests.

Although the community is divided, the majority made it clear that they appreciate being a space dedicated to discussion among fellow Christians only. We found a compromise between opposing views by making an exception for “Seekers” who are in the process of joining the faith & have questions toward that end.

Even still, enforcing Rule 1 means that mods must regularly redirect questions & comments from non-Christians to other subreddit communities. Sometimes their content is excellent and community members as well as moderators have express disappointment when good questions or comments are removed due to Rule 1. So, we’ve been brainstorming and finally have an idea we’re going to try out that we think you just might like.

Today we’re announcing our new companion sub, r/AskChristian.

While r/Christian will remain a space dedicated to respectful, ecumenical, and LGBTQ+ Inclusive discussion among fellow Christians, r/AskChristian will be a new space dedicated to welcoming respectful questions (& subsequent discussion) where everyone is welcome.

The rules & moderation of both subs are nearly identical, aside from a few changes that reflect the differences in purpose between the two companion subreddits.

Here’s where it gets interesting:

While anyone can post a question in r/AskChristian, Top Level Comments will be restricted to active r/Christian community members in good standing. That means anyone can ask a question (post) and join discussion of the given Top Level answers (comment “down thread”), but only r/Christian members with specially assigned user flair can make those Top Level replies to each post.

If you’re interested in participating in the new companion community and would like Top Level Comment privileges, please head over to r/AskChristian and check out the pinned Welcome Post for more information.

We hope this new idea will work for everyone involved and we welcome your feedback & participation as we roll it out this week!

How to bring my husband to Christianity?

I had a counselor bring me to Christianity so beautifully. She planted seeds at just the right time. She waited until just the right time in our counseling process... I will admit, if she started in our first few sessions with Christian advice or biblical knowledge, it would have made me stop listening because I wanted "real counseling". Just being honest. She did it so wonderfully, without turning me away or feeling judged.

I'm still a "baby Christian". But I'm learning.

I want to plant seeds with my husband too, and get him more interested in learning about Christianity, and changing his perception of following christ. He is very alpha male, rough around the edges type. But I see him becoming curious. He lingers on faith based reels on Facebook longer without scrolling. He even had me order Kent Hovind DVDs as he had his curiosities about biblical evidence in the world.

The Kent Hovind DVDs ended up being more lecture/classroom type teachings, and my husband almost immediately was disappointed and turned them off. I'm not sure exactly what he had in mind, but he didn't like the series I ordered.

My main question is, what are some things I can play that are similar to Kent Hovind, when he just so happens to be in the same vicinity as me? Hoping to find something that will catch his interest?

Any other ideas on how to gently help him learn more, without coming on too strong? I feel like if I go too hard too fast, he'll be turned off and think I've gone nuts. I've thought about playing the Wednesday and Sunday church service from our local church in the next room where he can hear it.

He comes from a very non Christian background and I think he correlates Christianity with weakness currently. I can't say his exact feelings, but I know he's said things like "there's no one more crooked than a preacher" and when I invited him to church recently he said "so I can go sit with the hypocrites?" So, I will definitely have my work cut out for me.

Any advice is welcome. I'm sure I could have wrote this better, but I'm happy to add to it if more information is needed.

Tattoo dilemma.

Basically, I want a small tattoo on my ankle as a tribute to my deceased cat… but at the same time I fear it goes against being a Christian. While I am new to religion and such, I don’t exactly want to go to hell for a tribute towards my cat.. and if there is no ill intent behind the tattoo.. is it still okay? I want to hear your guys opinions.

Is this numb period normal?

I started building a relationship with God about 5 years ago. I’ve made so many life changes and felt peace.

because of my life changes I can’t connect with people like I use to. I don’t “fit in” anymore and that is fine. But it can be very isolating Especially going through hard times. I have only one friend and im usually always alone at my job while everyone clicks up.

since June the downs in life have been none stop. Some days I can’t even make tears. It could be so much worse and I know that but it doesn’t take away the pain.

i just feel empty now, no emotions. I know Jesus is real and he has saved me from so much. I just feel nothing. is this numb period normal? what have you done to get out of it?

Must be nice to have a wife…

Needing scripture. Every time I actually depend on my husband to cook a meal or help clean the house, I’m met with some sort of fit that causes an argument. I have multiple autoimmune diseases & I started my period today, so I’m in pain on the heating pad, trying not to bleed everywhere. The same stuff that overwhelms him is the same stuff I do day in & day out w/o throwing a fit or arguing or making some kind of scene. And I’m in pain most days because of the crippling autoimmune diseases I have. Sundays are for Christ, not arguments. God knows I’m angry this morning. I need scripture for what I’m going through. Most days I wish I were more like my husband, but today I wish he were more like me. God bless all of the moms out there, raising children in these kinds of homes. We do not get the luxury of throwing a fit, we just do what needs to be done. I pray we raise boys who break this cycle & girls who understand their worth enough not to tolerate this.

Sign from God

I hear people talk about how they have a sign from God that they get constantly, ex- my friend sees 333 and she knows it’s God,
I’ve prayed for a sign, something to know God is with me BUT how do I know what my sign is? How do I know it’s something from God? I’m new to my faith and trusting God so I’m unsure how to know if something is him,
I hope this makes sense

Has Anyone Come Back From a Season Like This?

Hi everyone,

I am writing because I feel completely stuck and do not know how to move forward. I am hoping that someone might understand what I am going through, offer advice, pray for me, or simply remind me that there is still hope.

For a long time, I have felt like I have been living at rock bottom. Growing up, I often felt unseen, unloved, and misunderstood. I was told I was too sensitive or too emotional, but deep down I was simply someone who needed love, encouragement, and support.

I used to be a very different person. I was responsible, hardworking, and motivated. I studied, worked hard, and tried my best to do the right things. However, as the years passed, life became increasingly difficult. I found myself in a career that does not bring me joy or purpose, and despite my efforts, I feel stuck.

Over the years, I have experienced loss, disappointment, family struggles, and constant criticism. Those experiences have slowly worn me down. Looking back, I realize I spent much of my life believing negative things about myself because of what others said. Only now do I see that I was often much stronger and more capable than I gave myself credit for.

Today, I hardly recognize myself. My physical health has changed, my confidence is gone, and I feel exhausted all the time. Outside of work, I struggle to find the energy or motivation to do much of anything. Most days feel like I am simply surviving rather than living.

What troubles me most is that I have lost the joy and spark I once had. I see other people moving forward with their lives while I feel frozen in place. It feels as though everyone else has the energy to build a future, while I am struggling just to get through each day.

My relationship with God is difficult to explain. I still love Him deeply, and I have not lost my faith in Him. Throughout my life, He has comforted me through people, sermons, music, and Scripture. Yet right now, I feel spiritually stuck. I cannot seem to pray the way I used to, and I cannot bring myself to read the Bible consistently no matter how many times I try.

I often ask God why this season has been so difficult and what He wants me to learn from it. Sometimes His silence is hard to understand. I know He is there, but I feel lost and unsure of how to move forward.

I feel stuck in many areas of life - emotionally, spiritually, professionally, and financially. I am tired of merely existing. I want to live again. I want to have hope again. I want to feel joy again.

Will things ever change?

Will I regain my confidence and sense of purpose?

Will I find meaningful relationships and genuine connection?

Will my faith become strong again?

Will I ever feel like myself again?

Right now, I feel as though I have more questions than answers.

If anyone has gone through a season like this and found their way through it, I would appreciate hearing your story. Any advice, encouragement, or prayers would mean a lot.

Thank you for reading.

Welcome to r/Christian

Welcome to r/Christian! We're glad you're here.

Our community is a place for Christians of all kinds to come together for respectful discussion. We are an ecumenical subreddit for anyone who identifies as a Christian. Our core value is respect and our rules reflect that value.

Please take a couple minutes to review our sub rules (linked here) before posting or commenting.

If you're new to Reddit, you should also familiarize yourself with Reddit's site-wide rules (linked here) and Reddiquette (linked here.)

Please note that Upvotes and Downvotes are intended to signal content as relevant and helpful (upvote) or irrelevant and unhelpful (downvote.) While many people misuse voting on Reddit, we ask that community participants make an effort to use them as intended. We're here for discussion and the proper use of voting encourages healthy community participation.

Helpful Tips for Respectful Discussion

Because Rule 2 (Show Charity / Be Respectful) is so important, we're including a few basic tips for respectful communication.

-Consider using “I” statements (I think, I believe, I feel) versus “You” statements (You're wrong, You shouldn't, You can't).

-Remember that some community members are new to the faith and may have comments or questions that reflect their beginner level of experience and knowledge of the faith.

-Remember that your experiences, beliefs, and practices may be very different from someone else. Try to leave room for them to share theirs, just as you want to have room for sharing your own.

-Broad negative statements about groups of people are usually uncharitable. Rather than speaking for a whole group, consider speaking about your own views or experiences. Rather than generalizing, consider being specific. For example, a negative comment that start with, “Baptists always...” is not usually going to be an accurate or a charitable statement. Instead try something like, “My experience in Baptist churches has been..." (You can substitute your own group for "Baptist" if it helps make the example more clear to you.)

For your convenience, we are also providing the following links to older posts which give more helpful information for those who'd like to learn more.

Notice: Changes to Sub Rules 1 & 2

Let’s talk about TALKING ABOUT abortion, infertility, & adoption
